_ THREE YEARS LATER _
AMELIA
I was setting the dining table for a formal dinner, a routine I had done several times that I had become an expert at.
I raised the back of my hand to clean the bead of sweat on my forehead, cleaning my dirty, sweaty hand on the side of my apron. It was never cold for me, even in the cold environment. The constant cleaning, sweeping, throwing the trash and arranging the dining had taken a toll over my body.
Or maybe it was the dirt. I only ever shower once a day and that was in the morning. I was always too tired to remember to shower at night.
The clothes also given to me were old maids' clothes, and I only got three pairs. I had to wash them every two days or else I'd wear smelly clothes, but no matter how hard I washed, the kitchen smell stayed on the cloth like a perfume.
I couldn't even recognize my voice because nobody talked to each other. You would think that since we're all servants in this miserable place, we would come together and be friends, but even the servants hated each other.
Friendships only happened between siblings or lovers, and even lovers betrayed themselves most of the time.
One time, one servant had an affair with Zayn. It seemed the affair gave her a bit of hope that the Alpha's Heir would want to date a lowly Omega.
She was stupid to have thought so, and so she revealed to Zayn that her lover would sometimes piss in his wine and serve him just for fun.
She barely explained the entire story when Zayn ordered her lover's balls to be cut off and her tongue cut out right in front of us. He said it was to serve as a warning to us.
They gave us scraps for food, and if you wanted clothes, a good bar of scented soap and good food, Zayn said you had to earn it and the truth was no one ever earned anything. No matter how hard you tried, it was never good enough for him.
He thought so highly of himself and he had every right to, he was the Alpha's son but his cruelty was something I didn't understand. His hatred for the people who had devoted their lives to serve his father willingly or against their will, it was like he was trying to prove himself to everyone.
I tried to see a different side of him but each day his hatred for us only grew thicker and at some point, I started to notice a pattern. Whenever Alpha Hector came back he would always have some crime he had dealt with, it wasn't us he was trying to prove anything to, it was his father.
But why? Why did he need to prove anything to his father? He was the Alpha's Heir after all.
My thoughts were cut short as Zayn and his girlfriend, Nicole, stepped in and from their movement, I knew they were approaching me. I braced myself for another round of humiliation.
Oh Goddess, I exhaled, trying to control my temper. I was alone in the dining area, except for two motionless bodyguards by the entrance.
"Why didn't you clean the bathroom? I slipped and nearly broke my jaw," Nicole, his girlfriend, yelled at me as a dirty slap landed on my cheek, taking me off guard. It was the second time I had received a slap in my life.
I bit my lip, fighting back tears as my hands curled into a fist by my side.
"Haven't I told you to always clean my room whenever Nicole is coming around?" Zayn questioned angrily.
How was I supposed to know when your girlfriend was going to be around? Was cleaning your room thrice a day not enough? I thought having a girlfriend would distract him from us servants, but his stupid girlfriend was just the same as him.
"Look at how she is looking at you Zayn, she doesn't respect you," Nicole said to Zayn.
I didn't even know my anger had taken over my face and I was now looking at the two of them with disgust in my eyes. I despise them.
"How dare you look at me like that?" Zayn yelled at me. "Lower your eyes, you stupid bitch."
I couldn't let them see my vulnerability. But as they continued to taunt me, something inside me snapped. I could no longer bear their cruelty.
I straightened up, meeting Zayn's gaze. "I may be in your debt, but I won't tolerate your disrespect any longer," I declared.
Zayn's eyes widened, taken aback by my sudden defiance. Nicole, however, laughed at the situation, but I knew she was only trying to get Zayn more angry. "Oh, look at her, trying to stand up for herself! Very soon, she will start hitting you."
Before the situation could escalate further, a deep, commanding voice echoed through the room. "That's enough, Zayn."
It was his father, Alpha Hector.
I took a step back, bowing my head immediately as he stepped into our midst, his eyes darting from me to his son and his girlfriend. "What is going on here?"
"Father, she was being disrespectful to Nicole, and I was only “
"Do I need to remind you that Nicole is just your girlfriend and not a part of this family?" Alpha Hector interrupted Zayn, his voice low but authoritative. "I heard that your girlfriend has been going around taunting my workers. Is this true?"
"Father she has not -"
"I am not speaking to you," Alpha Hector said, as Zayn kept quiet instantly. Nicole stared at Alpha Hector, realizing the question was for her.
"I-I d-don't…" she stuttered, unable to find the words to express herself.
"This is my first warning and last. If I find you ordering MY workers around, you will regret knowing my son," Alpha Hector warned, throwing her a mean glare.
I used to think that they all loved Nicole, but it seemed I was wrong. It seemed the Alpha didn't love her. A smile curled on my lips secretly as I peeped at her through my lashes. She looked dumbfounded, and a bead of sweat was starting to form on her forehead despite the cold.
"Y-Yes Alpha," she managed to speak, bowing her head.
"Who placed the juice in a bowl?" Alpha Hector asked, taking his seat.
I rushed to grab the bowl of juice, not wanting to remind him that he had asked for the juice to be placed in a bowl today. Zayn and Nicole also took their seats. I could feel their eyes boring into the back of my head.
My heart raced as I carefully carried the bowl of juice back to the kitchen, hoping they wouldn't call me back to make another request, especially Zayn.
As I made a turn, I accidentally collided with a man. The bowl slipped from my grasp, and the juice splattered across his suit.
Fuck my life. It's too early for this.
Startled, I gasped and took a step back. Was he a guest? If he was, then Alpha Hector won't let me go unpunished.
My body began to tremble at the thought of what my punishment would be but before I could fully process the situation, my leg made contact with the juice spilled on the floor as I found my body swinging back ready to fall to my death but his strong hand encircled my waist swiftly, preventing me from stumbling as he held me in place.
"Careful," he muttered. His accent sounded different? Was he from here?
I looked into his golden eyes as they bore into mine, and a strange power emanated from his intense stare surrounding us.
My heartbeat began to echo in my ears, my lips slightly parted, but I couldn't find my voice, caught in the mesmerizing gaze that held me captive.
I instantly felt something stirring inside me. It felt like I could see beyond his golden eyes and straight into his soul.
For a moment, we just stared at each other. It felt like we were the only one in the mansion, in the world, and the world had faded into the background.
I wanted to look away, but I couldn't find myself doing so. It was like he was trying to tell me something without using his words, but I couldn't quite wrap my fingers around it.
As seconds passed like eternity, he suddenly leaned closer, our face inches apart as he planted a kiss on my lips.
AMELIAHis lips felt so soft on mine, the feel of his tongue digging into my mouth and looking for mine. I wanted to wrap my arms around, to pull him closer so I could feel. My hands raised up to his side, about to curl up on his neck…Wait! No! This was wrong! My eyes snapped open as I placed my hands to his chest, instead shoving him off and standing upright. I bowed my head immediately, kneeling on the floor. "Please Sir, I am so sorry Sir, please," I cried out. "Hey! It's alright," he said, reaching out to grab me by the arm on my feet. "I swear I didn't -""Hey! Relax," he smirked. "I won't say a word," he whispered like it was our little secret. He stared at me for a second before letting go of my arm and walking past me, heading towards the dining hall. I stared at him, my heart nearly leaping out of my chest as I placed my hand to my lips. I could still feel his lips on mine. He kissed me; he kissed me? Why did he kiss me? Who was that man? His look, the feeling I got fr
AMELIAThe atmosphere in the room tensed as the golden-eyed man approached us. Zayn released his grip on me, his eyes narrowing with a mix of surprise and displeasure at the sight of the man.The man’s gaze locked onto Zayn, his golden eyes gleaming with intensity. It was as if the air itself recognized the authority exuding from the golden-eyed man, and now as I met his gaze I noticed how handsome he looked. I could not help but stare at him with my lips parted. The light in the corridor made his face, hair, and eyes look even more attractive by casting flattering shadows. Damn! Moon Goddess, why didn’t you make him my mate? Why did you have to give me such a vile man as a mate? I groaned inwardly.“I said, let go of my mate,” the golden-eyed man repeated, his voice echoing with a power that needed no argument.Zayn, torn between anger and curiosity, finally released me. I stumbled back a few steps, my eyes never leaving the man. Zayn couldn’t help but feel a surge of frustration a
AMELIA“What the hell is going on here?” A loud voice echoed down the hall as Alpha Hector and Nicole stepped in. Nicole rushed to Zayn's side, checking his body for any sign of injury as she looked at him with a worried look, but her show of affection did not please Zayn. “Are you okay, my love? I was starting to get worried when you didn’t come back to the dining,” she said in a worried tone reaching out to touch Zayn’s face.Zayn’s eyes flared up as her hands touched his face, but he allowed it. Of course, he would. He hated his mate so much that he would choose to be with any woman but me. I managed to get up on my feet. Now that I had my wolf, my body seemed less prone to pain. I bowed my head to Alpha Hector, my eyes staring at my feet.It was a rule that once you were standing before the Alpha or his son, you should never look him in the eyes. Looking at him in the eyes for too long meant you were being defiant, but that didn’t stop me from peering through my lashes.“Cover
AMELIAAtlas didn't struggle with the guards. He remained quiet as they dragged us both to the dungeon. At first, I had tried to struggle with them, but I realized that struggling with them would only get me into more trouble. We walked down the hallway and made a few turns as we got deeper into the mansion, the lights slowly fading into darkness.I was unfamiliar with this section of the mansion. The walls had scratches and a distinct smell of blood as we ascended the stairs to an underground dungeon.A long hall appeared, with cells on either side. Some servants I hadn't seen in months and unfamiliar faces sat on the bare floor, looking lifeless. The bodyguard put us in a cell, locked it with a padlock, and gave Atlas clean clothes to wear as he only had a jacket over his shoulder covering his nakedness.Atlas reached for the cloth on the floor, removing the jacket covering his nakedness. I turned quickly, not wanting to see him change. I heard him chuckle lightly at my action, but
ATLASThere were a lot of things I regret getting involved in, and this was going to be one of them. The seer had told me that I would never have a mate and now that I had finally found her; she was nothing like I had imagined. I wanted to touch her, feel her, but I could not risk her finding out that I was the long-lost Alpha of the Blood Moon pack. The Midnight Crescent pack, led by Alpha Hector, wiped out my pack years ago. Since then, we've been building an army here at the mansion.Planning a coup to get back what was rightly mine, ours, and it was why I was working at Alpha’s Hector’s mansion under the disguise of a bodyguard.I had planned to give Alpha Hector a taste of his own medicine today, but fate had other plans. When I stumbled upon her in the hall, her enchanting scent pulled me in, and before I knew it, I was standing before her, utterly captivated by her gaze and unable to believe what I was seeing.I had ruined my plans because my wolf couldn’t resist her. Enzo, m
ATLASShe stared at me, waiting to give her an explanation, but I had none. She sneered, walked to the end of the cell, and sat on the floor. A worried look plastered on her face as she curled her knees up, burying her head in her knee.I wondered what was going on in that mind of hers. Maybe if I told her who I was, then I would keep her mind at ease, but wouldn’t that be dangerous? Being my mate didn’t erase the fact that I didn’t know who she was and if she was on Zayn’s side and not mine, it was best to keep it to myself for now. I walked opposite her, sitting on the floor and staring at her. It was going to be a long day and worse, a long night if the bodyguards didn’t come back to inform us of Alpha Hector’s decision. I grabbed the jacket the bodyguard offered me earlier to cover me and tossed it towards her. “here, you might get cold,” I said to her. She raised her head, grabbing the jacket with a frown on her face. “Don’t act like you care,” she sneered, tossing the jacket
ATLAS"We are under attack," I answered, my eyes falling on her hand holding my arm. Her eyes followed my eyes as it dawned on her that she was holding on to me so tightly. She shoved my hand off as she rose to her feet, fear plastered on her face as the cell wall shook again.Smirking, I got up on my feet and went to check the window in hopes of seeing if my thoughts were right. I wouldn't mind linking Enzo in time to hold back our men just a bit longer. It had to be them."What do you mean, we are under attack?" She asked, her voice shaking.I could see a purple light racing towards the sky as it scattered into different colors. The sign."My men are here," I said, looking out the window as another purple light raced "What - What men are you talking about? What is going on?" I turned to stare at her; it was time I explained the situation to her, but where was I to start from? How was I going to explain to her that today was the day I was supposed to place a sign out for my men to
ATLAS"You heard me, you old bastard." I furrowed my brows. I had endured a lot of nonsense from him over the years, but not anymore. Today, he would be taking his last breath."How dare you speak to me like that?" He yelled, pointing his pistol at me. "Did you check if it was loaded?" I asked, raising a brow."What?" His lips parted as his furrowed brow softened, and panic washed over his face."Are you becoming deaf? I knew you did come here and hide like a little sneaky rat that you are," I chuckled. I had come to his office to set things in place before heading to the dining earlier. I knew he would run here to grab whatever weapon he could lay his hands on, so I made sure to empty all the guns. He stared at me, still pointing the pistol, but I could see the doubt in his eyes, even though he tried hard not to give it away. "Don't be shy, check it," I smiled. Alpha Hector stared at me, not dropping the pistol, but he soon gave in, checking the pistol to see if I was saying the
