Kaelen shoved the drunk human onto his bed. But instead of staying down, Serena sprang up and clung to him, glasses slipping low on her nose, making her look far too adorable for someone being a nuisance.

“Take me back to Naya,” she slurred.

Kaelen looked away, jaw tight. He didn’t have time for this. His mind was still circling the Moonbane Alpha’s strange words, trying to piece the puzzle together, he didn't need a drunk human hanging on him.

His thoughts drifted back to the council meeting. Julian’s eyes, his body language, the subtle clues that betrayed hidden schemes. Kaelen had forced himself to appear neutral, but deep down, all he wanted was to protect the one person who, against his will, had become his lifeline.

“Alpha!” Serena screamed suddenly, tugging his arm. “You’re not obeying me!”

Kaelen snapped back to reality. Obey her? His eyes narrowed.

Kaelen's chest was filled with rage instantly. He put his hand over her neck, choking her slightly, not enough to hurt her, just enough to send a warning through her veins. His fingers brushed over the mate mark, and she squirmed instantly, breath catching in her throat.“If any other male or anyone touches you there…” his voice dropped, dark and deadly, “I will not hesitate to snap them in two.”His eyes glowed silver, proving he meant every word.Serena swallowed hard, her body reacting before her mind could catch up. The pressure of his hand, the heat of his breath, the intensity in those glowing eyes, it all locked her in place. She hated that he knew exactly what that touch did to her.“Let go,” she whispered, trying to sound unfazed, but her voice betrayed her, shaking slightly. He leaned closer, his eyes fixed on hers.“Then stop acting like the mark means nothing.”His thumb lingered one more second on her pulse… before he finally released her.Serena clenched her jaw, refusin

But beneath that calm, sadness and disappointment were all that lingered. She missed Naya. She hadn’t realized how much until now. She’d never really had friends, not the kind who made her feel seen. Naya had been that one rare soul. The thought of her, lost, banished, alone in that world hit Serena hard.Without meaning to, a tear slid down her cheek. She wiped it quickly, forcing a shaky smile. “Not tonight,” she muttered to herself. “No crying tonight.”Grabbing her purse, she stepped out and slid into her car. As she drove off into the city lights, she couldn’t shake the ache in her chest, that strange pull that told her she was being missed just as much. She stopped in front of the club, the neon lights painted her skin wit

Lyssara had followed Naya through the forest, her steps silent, her cloak brushing against the damp leaves. When she finally spotted her, Naya was sitting on a fallen tree, shoulders trembling as she cried. But Lyssara’s breath caught when a shadow moved behind her.A deep, chilling voice slipped through the darkness.“Crying won’t solve your problems,” it said, cruelly. “It only makes them worse.”Naya spun around, her heart thudding against her chest. Lorien stood there, cloak tossed aside, chest bare and a cruel smile on his face.“You think a knife’s going to stop me?” he said, voice cold. “Out here, no one will come for you , I will ravage your wolfless body till you draw your last breath.“Lorien, please…leave me,” Naya begged, voice cracking. “You’ve done enough.”He stepped closer, eyes cold. “This is your punishment,” he said flatly.“I didn’t do anything,” she hissed, backing away. “Don’t you dare touch me.”He laughed bitterly and closed the distance in one smooth movement,

Kaelen stared at the spot where Serena had stood, as if willing her to appear again, but she didn’t. The emptiness gnawed at him. Rage flooded his chest, hot and uncontrollable, and his gaze snapped to Naya, who looked just as stunned by what had happened.“Get out of my sight!” he roared, his voice echoing through the grounds.Naya flinched and ran, terrified he might kill her on the spot, she felt at fault for what had happened and knew what the Trueblood was capable of when enraged, and now his mate had vanished into thin air. No matter how often he denied caring about the human, Serena’s disappearance would torment him.Lyssara’s eyes widened. With everyone distracted, she slipped quietly through the crowd and vanished, using the chaos to her advantage.“Thayne! Search for her and bring her back!” Kaelen barked.Thayne nodded, though his eyes lingered in the direction Naya had fled. He broke into a run, shifting midstride as guards in wolf form flanked him , matching into the nigh

Lorien shoved Naya away.“What kind of shamelessness is this? I warned you to stay away from me.”Serena froze, a heat of embarrassment flooding her face on Naya’s behalf.Thayne watched in silence. Was this the same Alpha Naya had been struggling with before? How had she gone from pushing him off to clinging to him now? He turned away, jaw tight, angry and wounded. To him, the night before had been a charade; this was the truth.Serena grabbed Naya’s hand and pulled her back. “What are you doing? This isn’t like you,” she said, worry written across her face.“Control your maid, human, or I won’t hesitate to put her on trial,” Lorien snapped, then walked off with a smug smirk.Naya stormed off, furious that Serena and Thayne had ruined what she saw as her moment with the Alpha.Serena hurried after her, catching up just as Naya entered their room. She shut the door behind them, heart pounding.“What’s wrong with you, Naya? I thought you liked Thayne. Why are you doing this?”“I don’t w
