Chapter Five

Matthew woke up the next day with a new vision. As he prepared for school that morning, everyone noticed that he was more elated, leading to his mother asking him what was happening.

“It’s nothing, Ma; you can’t understand,” he said back to her, throwing his bag on his shoulder as he downed the cereal prepared for him.

“Have a nice day!” he yelled to her as he walked out of the door.

Last night was one of the best in his life, and in his head were all the things that would happen. After the hot sex between them, they had both fallen asleep amidst the sheets, their arms sprawled on each other. The last thing he remembered before succumbing to a deep sleep was placing his lips on her forehead and kissing her. He didn't even know when she woke up and left his room, the pieces of her clothing he had torn in anger were also nowhere to be found.

As he drove on the narrow road, a huge smile on his face, he connected his phone to the car, playing one of their favourite songs as he hummed to it. He remembered when she’d be in the car while he played ‘Bazzi, beautiful, and she’d choke on his ears with talks of Jeremy. He didn't understand what she saw in him, but at least they were done with it now.

“Ahhhhh!” he squealed, increasing the car's speed.

It didn't take him time to get to school, with the excitement bubbling in him and his crazy driving. He packed in his regular spot, getting out of the car as a deep sigh escaped his lips. His eyes roamed the surrounding, seeing if she was around and was waiting for him. His eyes caught sight of Silver, calling out to her as he rushed to meet her.

“I’m not interested in talking to you this morning,” she said, rolling her eyes as they both walked into the school.

“And why is that?” Matthew asked with one of his brows raised.

Silver stopped immediately, turning to look at him, “How about yesterday? How about someone who tells me what happened yesterday? After the party, or even before the party? She spouted, her voice a little high.

“What happened yesterday?” Elena interrupted.

Matthew felt his heart leap out of its ribcage as he heard her. Taking a glance at her, he looked back at Silva, whose face was still all shades of anger.

“How about Matthew tell me what happened? I’m serious here if you think I’m not. I’m dead serious!” Silver added, her veins bulging out of her head.

“Matthew,” Elena called out as she faced him. “What happened last night?” she added.

Matthew glanced at Elena and looked back at Silver. He said, widening his eyes as he looked back and forth.

“I told you!” Silver started. “You were supposed to come to get me after finding Elena yesterday. Why didn’t you come back? You did not even consider calling me to ask if I got home. I get for Elena, she was heartbroken and you,” she said as she looked into his eyes,

“What exactly happened to you? Did you hurt your leg or sprain your ankle?” she said as she eyed him.

“For that, both of you should not dare talk to me for the whole day.” she ended before walking off, not after hitting his leg with her foot.

“Ahhh.” Matthew yelped out.

“Silva,” Elena yelled and moved to follow her when Matthew's voice stopped her.

“Elena,” he called out.

She stopped, at first not turning back to look at him until he called out again,

Elena, about last night,” he started.

“What happened last night?” she turned to look at him, her arms folded on her chest and her lips pressed against each other.

To be taken aback was not the right word for how Matthew felt. He gritted his teeth, a small smile on his face as he inched closer to her. She took some steps back, still staring at him. “What happened last night, Matthew?” she said again.

Matthew felt a pain jab through his heart, gulping down as a small scoff escaped his lips. “Elena, the both of us, together,” he said with all seriousness, his eyes searching into her eyes.

Elena closed the space between them, pulling him into a hug and burying her head in his neck, “Have you heard about one-night stands?” she started.

“Treat it as one. It’s nothing hard,” she said, pulling away from him after and throwing him one of her mischievous smiles.

“Elena,” Matthew called out, almost not believing his ears.

Many thoughts were going through his head, and he had not expected it to go this way. Not in his wildest dream has he expected it to go like this,

“Matthew,” Elena said through gritted teeth, pulling his arm as they both made their way into the school.

I’m sure you understand. Treat it as a one-night stand.

Matthew felt like laughing at that point, a painful one. His heart squeezed against his ribcage, the pain spreading through every part of his body. He felt her squeeze his arm playfully, stopping in front of him with her hand on her locker.

“And please, don't tell Silva about it. Do not tell her anything about it at all.” She said, hitting his shoulder twice before placing a peck on his cheeks.

Matthew nodded, clenching his jaw as he walked past her. Without branching his locker, he walked straight to the class, took his seat and dropped his bag beside him. Closing his eyes as her words rang in his head,

“.....a one night stand….”

*****************************

Elena wasn’t feeling much better too. Lots were going through her mind. Not in her wildest dream has she thought she would have sex with Matthew, not to talk about how good it felt? She had specifically dressed for Jeremy, shaved for him, and looked good for him, only to be dumped right in front of that witch.

After last night, he didn’t even seek her, busy frolicking with his new witch. The thought clenched her jaw, anger radiating through every part of her as she scrunched her bag inside her locker.

“Hi Elena,” she heard the voice she had been dreading.

Thank goodness the locker was covering her face, squeezing her face and muttering the ‘f’ word. She picked up the book they had for class and slammed the locker close, turning to face Jeremy, who had a smile.

“Hi, Jeremy,” she replied, curling her lips up.

“I didn't see you at the party last night. Hope you’re good?” he questioned.

Of course, how would he see her? Since he couldn't ask her out, she was busy on the sheets with her best friend, having the sex she had thought he would be the one to give her.

“I’m fine. I wasnt feeling too good, so I had to leave. Thanks for asking.” she said.

“Are you going to the class? Let’s go together,” he said.

“Sure,” Elena replied.

As they walked, a lot of things were going through her head. How has she been so stupid? He didn’t look at her like he liked her. He stared at her like a friend, with no sparks, no love. Just normal friends,

“Thank you once again for the advice, and it helped.” she heard him say.

Gritting her teeth to herself and her grip tightening on the book in her hand, she hummed in response. She glanced at him occasionally as they walked, noticing how he smiled as his hand tapped rapidly on his phone. Her heart skipped a beat as he looked up at her.

“I’ll see you later,” he said suddenly and sauntered away.

With her brows creased, she turned to look at the way he walked off, too to see his hand around a girl. Anger coursed through her. Of course, it was the witch. She was the one, the boyfriend snatcher. Stomping her foot on the ground and dashing off, he couldn't even see her off to the class to the end. She entered the class, glancing at Matthew, who was busy talking to a guy, before taking her seat. She dropped her book on the table and buried her head in it, only for someone to tap her.

“What!” she yelled, gathering the whole class's attention.
