Chapter 4

Author: Footsteps Forest
The wealthy woman who had just lost the necklace immediately turned toward Mom and me, her eyes red with panic and anger.

"Give me back my necklace, you thieves!"

"Ma'am, please calm down," I told her. "We've never seen your necklace."

I stepped in front of Mom protectively and stared coldly at Jacob. "There are surveillance cameras all over the lobby. Pull up the footage, and the truth will be out."

A sly smile appeared on Jacob's face. "What a coincidence. The camera covering the couch area broke yesterday. But we don't even need surveillance footage. Other than you two cheap bums, no one else here would steal anything."

His voice turned stern. "Security, pat them down and search their bags!"

Ignoring my objections, he ordered the guards forward. With a theft case involving property worth over 300,000 dollars, the security guards suddenly seemed much less hesitant than before.

Mom did her best to protect her dignity, clutching her tote bag tightly against her chest. "Without the police present and a lawful search warrant, none of you have the right to search me or my personal belongings!"

"Well, that just proves you've got something to hide, then!"

Seeing that the guards were moving too slowly, Jacob charged forward himself. He took advantage of the chaos and slammed directly into Mom.

"Mom!" I exclaimed and immediately reached out to catch her.

Jacob's hand moved incredibly fast. While everyone's attention was on me, he reached into Mom's open tote bag, grabbed something, and violently shook it out.

Suddenly, a dazzling diamond necklace fell out of the bag and hit the floor. Several diamonds came loose, and the necklace was badly bent from the impact.

Mom and I both froze. Neither of us had any idea when that necklace had appeared inside her bag.

"You're caught red-handed! What else do you have to say for yourselves?" Jacob shouted righteously. "This is a 300,000-dollar necklace. Now that it's damaged, you must compensate our guest!"

The wealthy woman rushed forward, picked up the necklace and the scattered diamonds, then rudely pointed at Mom. "You old hag! You look so harmless on the outside, but it turns out you're a thief!"

Faced with this sudden frame-up, Mom trembled with anger. "That man stuffed it into my bag when he bumped into me earlier! I never stole it!"

Jacob stood there with his hands on his hips, looking completely justified. "You're saying I stuffed it in there? Everyone saw how it fell out of your bag, lady!"

I held my trembling mother, my expression hardening. "Since you're pulling this stunt, I'll call the police. They'll be able to check the fingerprints on the necklace.

"If there are none from my mother and only yours, I swear you'll spend the rest of your good years behind bars! Without solid evidence, none of you are touching us!"

The moment Jacob heard about checking fingerprints, a flicker of panic flashed in his eyes. He never expected me to stay this calm, and for a moment, he was at a loss.

The security guards dared not act recklessly. They could only block our way out. The entire situation fell into a stalemate.

"What's going on? It is not appropriate for a hotel lobby like ours to have such a commotion!"

A slightly impatient female voice came from the entrance of the hotel lobby. The moment Jacob heard that voice, his eyes lit up.

"You're finally here!" he exclaimed.

He pointed at Mom and me, accusing, "These cheap bums not only hacked into our system but also stole a VIP guest's diamond necklace. Hurry and have them arrested!"

I turned around and finally came face-to-face with the infamous woman. The moment I saw her face, I froze, only to let out a chuckle the next second.

So, it was her.

Jacob broke down. He lunged at Cindy and grabbed her by the collar. "You lied to me about your feelings! You made me help you falsify the accounts, you bitch!""Get away from me, you useless piece of trash!" she screamed, shoving him away.At this point, she couldn't care less about her lover. She scrambled across the floor and rushed to Sean's feet."Sean, I'm sorry! I swear I didn't know that was Mr. Harrison! It was all this bastard's fault! He seduced me and made me do all that! Please forgive me this time, okay? I swear I'll never do it again!"Watching Cindy and Jacob turn on each other, I let out a cold laugh. My gaze landed on Mrs. Walker, who was pressed against the wall, quietly trying to sneak away."Stop her," I said calmly. Two bodyguards immediately stepped forward.Sean glanced at her and let out a cold scoff. "I was just wondering who that was, carrying a fake Hermes bag and wearing counterfeit Chanel, pretending to be some wealthy socialite here."Does everythi

When Cindy heard me call her by her full name, she froze for a moment. "How dare you threaten me! Guards, get him! Take that thing out of his hand!"Jacob shouted arrogantly from the side, "Yeah! Beat them until they can't act tough anymore!"Just as the security guard's hand was about to grab my shoulder, a deafening crash exploded at the entrance of the lobby. The door that had just been locked was smashed open from the outside.Someone had used a riot control fork to break the lock clean off. The next second, the entrance doors were kicked open. The security guards instinctively stopped and turned toward the doorway simultaneously. A tall man with a furious expression walked into the lobby, flanked by four men in black suits. When I saw who it was, the tension in my body instantly eased. I casually tossed the glass ashtray back onto the coffee table. The moment Cindy saw Sean's face, however, she froze as if struck by lightning. "S-Sean?"She pushed Jacob away from her and st

The moment I said that, a layer of fine cold sweat instantly appeared on Cindy's forehead. After all, she was just a woman who had climbed her way up by relying on a man. She had never truly seen the world at large. The reason she was brazen enough to do all this was that she thought the company headquarters was far away, and that the CEO would never bother with such small details.Cindy stared at me with suspicion and uncertainty, her heart pounding. She thought, "Could this man be an undercover investigator sent by the group headquarters?"Her voice trembled without her realizing it. "W-Who are you, really?"Seeing her confidence weaken, Jacob immediately started stirring things up. "Cindy, why are you scared of him? He's just some poor guy who knows a little bit of nonsense and is pretending to act tough!"He was already hesitating over paying 1,500 dollars earlier. How could he possibly be some important person?"He pointed at me and barked, "He's just bringing up all this ra

I shook the dead phone in my hand. "My phone ran out of battery. Can I get a power bank from your front desk so I can power it on? It's not too much to ask, is it? How else am I supposed to transfer the money to you?"Cindy and Jacob exchanged a glance. "Fine. Give him a power bank!"Jacob laughed coldly and gave the security guards a look. "Watch the entrance. Until the money arrives, no one is leaving this building!"The front desk receptionist reluctantly handed me a power bank. I took it and plugged in my phone. The second the screen lit up, I tapped into my chat with Sean.I slightly turned my body away from the others, quickly raised my phone, and took a picture of Cindy and Jacob holding each other."Hey, Dabney. Take a look at your sweet little girlfriend. Not only did she use the money you gave her to keep a pretty boy in my hotel and pretend she's the owner, but she's also working with him to extort 300,000 dollars from my mother and me."I'm giving you 30 minutes to ge
