Abducted at eight, I grew up knowing nothing but pain and wildness, until ten years later I returned to my family. However, the memory I had of a loving family, tarnished into pieces. To them, only reputation matters, including my childhood lover, who sadly loathes me. Not to mention my adopted sister's relentless schemes. Tired of their sick games, I run away on the night of mu engagement. Now, I'll no longer return to them, or tie myself to any rules... However, little did I know, my fate had already tangled to the most eligible bachelor of the country, who happened to be my Groom's cold brother, with whom I'd embark a journey I had never imagined. Hi, I'm Bellatrix Valdez, and this is my story....

CHAPTER 1: Foul Lies

BELLATRIX...

Most people forget that Valdez Villa had a little garage in the backyard, now mostly used as a storage for trash. However, I never forget. My most precious memories revolve around that garage—building my first birdhouse with Grandpa, learning to plant rare plants with Grandma. Then there was the day when twelve-year-old Neil, with a red rose in hand, first kissed my cheeks, melting my eight-year-old heart.

“Bella, I’m going to marry you when we grow up,” he’d said, making my cheeks turn crimson.

Years passed. We became adults, and as promised back then, Neil and I ended up together. However, after two years together, his feelings for me had weakened while mine had remained the same. He had become distant, and it seemed I no longer dwelled in his heart as I used to. Still, I believed we could be a happy couple and hoped my feelings would be reciprocated eventually.

Submerged in those thoughts, I lost track of time until my phone buzzed with Mom's call. “Heard you're not ready yet? Do I need to remind you about your important day, Bella? Very immature behavior. Unexpected from a Valdez.”

I apologized and told her I was leaving. Once we hung up, I took one last look at my cherished place, then returned to the front gate of the villa. White and gold lights bathed the entrance in a soft, warm glow, and light music played in the ballroom. My heart clenched with nerves. Tonight, Neil and I would take the next step in our relationship and get engaged.

While taking in the decorations, Neil came downstairs, looking handsome in a tuxedo.

“Neil, you're here,” I said, smiling.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” he snapped. “You're supposed to be prepared for the ceremony by now!”

He shook his head, wearing a frown of disapproval. “You're no good, Bellatrix. God knows in which tragic hour I met you. Florence is far more presentable. Now, don’t waste any more bloody time and get ready!” He stormed toward the ballroom.

The decorators looked on, giving me odd looks. I stood there, ashamed. No wonder I felt like an outsider there. What hurt most, though, was that he compared me to my sister, Florence—adopted sister, to be more precise.

Despite that I'm the biological daughter of my parents and not her, she was everyone’s favorite, including theirs. I tried to understand the sentiment, especially since I was supposed to be their only heir. But everything had changed fifteen years ago when I was kidnapped on my way to school with Grandpa.

My memories of the incident were vague and scattered, like those of a distant nightmare I had somehow escaped. I never learned who abducted me, but I lived freely for ten years in a faraway land. Eventually, I returned to my family, regaining my true identity. I’d been back with them for five years.

One would think my presence would have brought them joy. Yet, it turned out otherwise. After a good deal of searching, they’d thought me dead. So Florence, the daughter of Dad’s late bodyguard, had replaced me in their hearts.

They weren’t the only ones that found our relationship challenging. I wasn't able to adapt to the family either. After years of wandering in an unnurtured environment, I had grown up feral and wild, unlike Florence. She had learned from the best, receiving an outstanding education, making her the preferred daughter, even over their own blood.

For years, I hoped for some positive attention. None came. Only my arrangement with Neil prevented me from breaking apart. Still, I didn't know how long I could endure. As it was, I hung on to my relationship with Neil by a thin thread, despite knowing I should have let it go, despite knowing his unspoken wish.

I returned to my room and entered the walk-in closet I shared with Florence. I chose a simple Nile-green dress adorned with baby pink flowers. Right after I put it on, Florence burst through the door, arriving with her usual sneer. She wore a golden dress that outshone mine completely. One look at her, and I felt inadequate, like a lessor forgotten step-child.

“Fighting with your soon-to-be husband already, sister? And in front of outsiders? Grow up, Bellatrix. You should learn to respect your man by now.”

She said it like I had started the argument with Neil, or as if I was the one at fault.

I heaved a heavy sigh. Even though there was no sisterly bond between us, I always tried to accept her as one. However, she never respected that, and it made it difficult to deal with her.

“My relationship with Neil is my relationship with Neil, not yours. So stay out of it,” I replied curtly, hoping to avoid an argument. I didn’t want to fight right before my engagement.

“How can I stay out of it when it's about me each time? His fondness is very clear, Bella. How long are you going to pretend to be blind?”

“Neil and I are chosen to be together, and tonight is the proof!” I spat in defense. “Now leave me alone!” I strode past her.

“You fake bitch!” she shouted, lunging at me. She grabbed a vase off the dresser, her eyes wild with rage.

She hurled the vase at my head. I dodged, lifting my arm to protect my face. The vase hit, and stinging anguish seared through the limb. I pushed her away out of instinct and self-preservation. She toppled backward, falling against the dresser and hitting her shoulder. She let out a loud shriek that echoed in the closet, startling me.

A second later, the bedroom door burst open, and Neil rushed toward us—toward Florence. “What the hell happened here? Florence, are you okay?” He turned to me, accusation in his eyes. “What happened to her, Bella?” he shouted, his face twisted in anger.

“I-it was an accident. S-she tried to—”

“I don't know why she hates me so much,” Florence said, sobbing.

I stared at her in disbelief. What an act!

“I-I came to help her get ready,” Florence lied smoothly, acting like an injured waif. “But sh-she suddenly turned scary, blaming me for seducing you!”

“What?” I gaped, my eyes wide, listening to her obnoxious lie. “She’s lying, Neil!”

“Shut up!” he snapped at me, then turned to Florence. “Go on and tell me.”

“She tried to hurt me with the vase,” Florence said, the lie rolling off her tongue with ease. “I dodged it, but then she pushed me! I’m sorry, I didn't mean to ruin your day.” She snuggled close to him.

Rage built within me. “It's all false!” I shouted. “She’s lying! Can’t you see that?”

Neil’s icy glare said my words hadn’t swayed him. “You’re the liar! How could you do this to your sister, Bellatrix! Shame on you!”

And just then, a not-so-shocking realization crossed me: Neil Ryder, My soon-to-be fiancée, sitting beside my sister, taking side with her lies over my truth... Because, his trust devoted to her more than my entire Fucking existence!

CHAPTER 2: Betrayals & Disappointments
BELLATRIX... Distress would be an understatement for my feelings at that moment. My fists clenched, despite the throbbing ache in my arm. “It's not true, Neil,” I said in defense.“So she fell all by herself?” he asked, the disbelief evident in his voice.“I never said I didn’t push her. I said it was an accident!”He looked me up and down, his lips pursed. “Pfft. Yeah, an accident where you willfully hurt her. Stop with your lies, Bellatrix!” His words struck me deeply. That he didn’t believe me hurt my soul. Then helped Florence to her feet with such care and tenderness— the complete opposite of how he treated me.Florence's eyes caught mine, and she shot me an evil smirk only I could see. Ugh. Why can’t he see through her? How can he treat me this way?Worse, his next words nearly broke me. “Bellatrix, it can be forgiven if you apologize,” he said, his voice stern. Who am I kidding? He already trusted her words over mine. Anger rose within me. “I won't,” I said firmly. “And if

CHAPTER 3: Turning down the engagement
BELLATRIX... Shock rippled through the room after I suggested canceling my engagement to Neil. It even silenced Florence. It seemed she hadn’t expected me to give up so easily.“What?” Mom reacted first, breaking the grave silence. “Did you get screwed before your engagement? Just how much have you had to drink to spit this nonsense?”Her words stung, but I was nothing but a huge disappointment to them. I tightened my fists, nearly breaking the skin in my hand with my nails. But that pain didn’t compare to the anguish in my heart. “I mean it, Mom,” I said firmly.“That’s enough!” Dad stepped forward, standing beside Mom. “We’ve heard enough of this, Bellatrix. Stop it at once, and behave. You’re going to ruin our family’s reputation with this nonsense. Now,” he said, pointing at my arm without a hint of compassion, “take care of that bleeding and get to the event. Most of the guests have already arrived.”“Take care of that bleeding?” I repeated, barely able to believe his blasé atti

CHAPTER 4: An aura of mystery
BELLATRIX... “Bloody fuck!” the man attached to the strong arm said in a deep growl, holding me against his firm chest. An intoxicating scent of fresh mint mixed with the faint aroma of tobacco and filled my nostrils. I looked up and then looked up some more—he was nearly two heads taller than me. Finally, I met a pair of cold forest-green eyes that stared at me with displeasure. I gulped. Dressed in a custom-made tailored suit, with neatly styled midnight hair, the mysterious man exuded strength and individuality. I probably shouldn’t have stared at his insanely alluring features, but my greedy eyes were unstoppable. Neil was a handsome hunk, but this man exceeded worldly limits.“What are you doing?” He frowned, obviously not impressed.“I—I didn’t mean to,” I slowly murmured, giving him a pleading gaze.I found being in his arms distracting, and his scent blurred my head. It was as if I was being pulled toward him. Yet, it had to stop. He pulled away, initiating the break. A col

CHAPTER 5: The repeat of history
BELLATRIX...I raced away from the villa, but soon felt lost. I didn’t know where to run. I didn’t want to go back to the countryside; life there was horrible. But living with my family meant willingly throwing myself into a pool of boiling lava. Either way, I would be sacrificed.Tears burned at the thought of the monster I nearly got engaged to. I was nothing but property to him. No, I wouldn’t go back to that hell. I wouldn’t let them take me. So I just kept running.A pink flash of lightening lit up the night sky, tearing the heart out of it. Droplets of water touched my bare skin, a warning of heavy rain. I still had no idea where to go. Only moments later, rain poured and soon drenched me. My tears dissolved in the water, and I prayed for a little help along the way.As I took a turn, a black car appeared out of the rain-drenched darkness. It stopped in front of me, so close that I stumbled backward, my heart hammering. The window slid down, revealing chauffeur Smith’s face, on

CHAPTER 6: Victor Dubov
BELLATRIX... As my abductors dragged me, I felt weak and insignificant, as though my strength were non-existent to them. Fate had once again played a cruel joke on me, letting me escape an earthly fire only to throw me into hell.Tears of panic and pain streamed from my eyes as I tried to jerk free. Not that they’d let me leave. Still, I fought. I used all my force, too, and that only angered them more. One grabbed me by the neck and threw me into the car.A gasp of air left my chest as my face hit something sharp, and keen anguish crept over my brow bone. A hand fisted my hair tightly before hauling me backward. “This bitch is a pain in the ass,” he said before he tossed me down and kicked my back.I hissed in pain, my lungs struggling for air. With my breath shallow, I felt something warm and sticky over my eyes that made me shiver.“She should be taught a lesson!” he snarled.Terror consumed me as I craned my head to see my attackers. Though I could find nothing identifiable. The

CHAPTER 7: A wounded Tigress
VICTOR... I gazed at the woman who had been laying on the white bed of hospital. "How's her condition?" I asked the doctor coldly as he checked her heart monitor once again. "She is weak due to her physical injuries, although she is healing pretty quickly, we must keep her under observation." "Hmm..." I watched her giving a statement to the police; she's touching her nose frequently, possibly a habit when she's thinking. She was pleasing to the eye, now with her face wiped clean... From the curves of her body to her eyes full of innocence that could be deceptive for one and must come with a warning, but there was more to her that set her apart from the others I had met before. She is feral, as a tigress should be, but this tigress is wounded beneath her bones, she is tormented, and unfortunately her tormentors live around her... (FLASHBACK OF EARLIER...) I turned to the trembling girl, "Bellatrix Valdez?" I muttered with amusement laced in my voice, "so, you are the woman o

CHAPTER 8: A shock of reality
BELLATRIX...The night had passed, and I was in and out of my nightmares. Sometimes I was kidnapped by three scary jokers, at other times I was surrounded by a dark mist and evil laughter. I was alone except a few times when a nurse came to check on me. None of my family members showed up at night.I was exhausted, mentally and physically. My heart shuddered once I realized I had to return to that hell again, yet I prepared myself to receive the punishment even after knowing it would surpass their previous punishments. I somehow feel it's better than being abducted by strange people with unknown motives; after all, not every time I would be saved by others. Perhaps staying there I would be able to find out the main culprit who sent those goons after me.Now, I could only hope that my parents accept me...It was now ten in the morning, and I was finally in a better condition than last night. The pain in the back of my head had receded mostly, just a feeling of heaviness remained along

CHAPTER 9: The blame game
BELLATRIX... I was stunned, staring at my father, luckily I was over Neil... Or it would have stung so bad. "Did we have any other option except that?" Mom said, "the one who should actually care for the family abandoned us in the crucial time, and the other one sacrificed herself for the family... I truly regret not carrying Florence in my womb," she said distastefully. I truly wish that... At least it would have hurt less knowing she was preferred because of biological connection, which was clearly missing here. My gaze caught Florence, standing beside Neil. She was silent, but her face was bright and her lips twitching to a winning smirk... I give her that, she finally got her precious treasure, though I wasn't sure if her elation was for winning over me... Or getting engaged to Neil. It felt funny for some strange reason, and I gave a slow smile, "I'm glad..." The truth was I didn't know what else to say. It was quite obvious that they all were happy with Florence and wa

CHAPTER 10: A threat
BELLATRIX... I was lost, my eyes widened with horror as I shook my head, my heart pounding violently under the blaming gazes of my parents. "Mom, Dad..." I muttered helplessly. "Shut up!" Mom scolded me, her face red with anger and disappointment, "Look what you've done! You spare us no face, Bellatrix! How could you stoop so low!?" My lips quivered. I wanted to deny all the blame and shout at the top of my lungs, but would it work at all? They seemed to believe what they believed. I pressed my lips together, tugging at the hem of my hospital gown under the comforter, hoping to vanish from this unfair world. My last shred of hope was torn today. I have no chance... More precisely, I never stood a chance in front of Florence. It seemed I cared for them far more than those who discarded me cared for me. Would it be different if I wasn't kidnapped fifteen years ago? It must be, after all, I am their biological daughter... If Grandpa and grandma were still alive, would they love me
