The pressure on my jaw tightened. Let alone tiptoeing, I couldn't even move my face a millimeter.

I let out a soft, irritated snort, loosening my hold on his tie. “Stingy,” I muttered, my lips still trapped between his fingers.

He finally released my face. He took a half step back, eyes narrowed at me. "Did you just try to kiss me?"

I rubbed my cheek, still tingling. “Obviously.” I didn’t blink.

“I’m jealous, Mister. You locked me out, then let that woman, Diana, into your room.”

His brows drew

My eyes narrowed, quickly scanning my surroundings, peering over Silas's shoulder. There was no one there. No mansion servants dusting, no guards, and no Albus, who usually always lingered to "keep me company."I was alone with him in this greenhouse.I tightened my grip on the handle of the water jug, assessing how much damage I could do if this metal object landed on the bridge of his nose."Hi. What exactly are you trying to do to me today, Silas? Aren't you afraid of Mister's warning from back then?"He snorted, then burst out in a loud laugh that echoed through the glass-walled room. His laughter seemed to chip away at my patience layer by layer."You really think you have Ronan wrapped around your little finger, huh, Alice?" He stopped laughing and leaned forward, contempt glinting in his eyes. "Just so you know... he's the one who told me you were here alone."What? My heart dropped straight into my stomach. My grip on the watering can weakened instantly.Silas grinned widely,

Edgar just stood there, staring blankly at the grass before slowly lifting his gaze to his older sister's face."So... you know exactly what's on that flash drive, Ella?" Edgar asked, his voice breaking as the words caught in his throat. The older sister he had always defended so fiercely, the one he had always considered the victim, was actually a venomous snake hiding behind an angelic smile.Ella didn't answer. She just glared at him, breathing heavily, her chest heaving."Why did you lie to all of us?" Edgar demanded, his voice dropping, his eyes red with tears. "Why did you... frame her so much? You sold her out, for fuck's sake, and you're accusing her!""Shut up," Ella growled lowly, her jaw clenched. "I didn't do it. It was Alice's plan. You... you fell for it."Edgar snorted. "She was abandoned by her parents, by Victor, and by the entire pack! As if that wasn't enough, she was tortured and humiliated in front of everyone. How could you—""You did it too, Ed!" Ella snapped, h

The thought of that possibility suddenly made me feel cold all over, as if a chunk of ice had been shoved into my spine. My feet rooted themselves to the thick carpet."That... can't be, right?"Even as I thought it, it still felt like something was lodged in my throat.I swallowed hard, staring at the tightly closed bathroom door. The sound of running water from inside felt almost like a mockery. I desperately tried to push the thought away. This was crazy. We had just entered the so-called honeymoon phase. Just last night, he'd clung to me like a blood-starved leech, nuzzling my neck in the car and locking me in his room. Could his attraction really have the lifespan of a fruit fly?But... Ronan was a cold-blooded tycoon. And a hunter. Sudden boredom wasn't unusual for a man like him, was it?At least that's what I'd learned from observing the behavior of other tycoons.Haa, my chest hurt just thinking about it. Wait… did I just… feel disappointed? Why?My fists clenched so tightly

A red warning light flashed brutally through the curtains of this third-floor room, accompanied by a siren that nearly shattered my eardrums.Earthquake? Landslide? Alien attack? What the hell is this?!"Mister!"But my touch wasn't even necessary. Ronan's body was already stiff as steel beneath my palm. His eyes, which had been peacefully closed just a second ago, were now open with obsidian glints as sharp as swords. There wasn't a trace of sleep in them. The man sat up in one fluid motion that sent shivers down my spine, and then... the corner of his mouth twitched into a grin."There's a wolf sneaking into the mansion grounds," he muttered, his voice thick and trembling with anticipation."A wolf?!"Not an earthquake or a landslide, but a wolf?! And they set off the alarm system so loudly just for that?!No, scratch that. Ronan was crazy, but what idiot wolf would be stupid enough and bored enough to break into a hunter's house? Did he want to die aesthetically?!Ronan got out of

I felt like swallowing my own tongue right then and there.Ronan's thumb was still casually resting on my pulse point, and I didn't need a medical degree to know that this man could definitely feel my heartbeat suddenly racing like a metal drumbeat.Damn, damn, damn. I thought I wasn't doing anything suspicious in front of him? Was my acting sloppy? Or was there some goddamn security camera actually recording my hairy form strangling Thomas Sebdall?!Inside my head, I was slapping myself back and forth to stay sane. If I pulled away or acted defensively, this damn detective in front of me would handcuff me instantly with his suspicions. So, instead of backing down, I swallowed hard and forced a faint smile that looked shaky in the dim cabin lights. "What are you thinking, Mister?" I squeaked as quietly as I could.Ronan studied my face for two full seconds that felt like two centuries, before he finally slowly pulled his head back. The heat that had been surrounding me lifted slight

Before leaving the stall, I had deliberately splashed my face, neck, and part of my hair with copious amounts of sink water, creating the perfect illusion that I had just endured a life-and-death battle with dehydration and stomach cramps.Chris murmured with pity, gazing at my miserable appearance. "You were in there for almost an hour, Miss. I was really worried about you."I forced a weak, shaky smile, clutching my stomach. "Thank you so much, Chris... for buying me medicine and leaving it in front of the stall. That liquid truly saved my life.""It was my duty, Miss," Chris replied, breathing a sigh of relief.I stepped closer, looking at him with fake tears in my eyes. “Chris, I beg you... please don’t say a word about this embarrassing incident to Mister. I don’t want him to think I’m a troublesome, sickly woman.”Chris grimaced awkwardly, then nodded in understanding. "Actually... Mr. Bachnault just called me. He asked why we were both taking so long to walk around and where yo
