ELENA

It was already six in the evening when I finally returned from the hospital.

The moment I stepped into the bedroom, the first thing I saw was that dress. I picked it up slowly. The fabric was thin and light, revealing far more skin than I was ever comfortable showing.

Edward hadn’t only given me a dress. There were shoes too. And a black mask that covered only part of my face. My fingers tightened around it before I carried everything into the bathroom. After showering, I changed into the outfit and stared at my reflection in the mirror. But the woman staring back at me no longer felt like someone I recognized.

After drying my hair and brushing a little lipstick across my lips, I slipped on the black mask, letting it hide part of my face. Then I grabbed a coat hanging near the door to cover my bare shoulders. The thick fabric wrapped around me instantly, offering the illusion of protection that didn’t truly exist.

I tightened the belt around my waist. Then slowly, I walked out of the house and climbed into the car waiting for me. Eventually, the car stopped in front of Riverside Hotel. The building towered over the street, brighter than everything around it.

“I’m already in the hotel lobby. Where should I go?” I asked the moment Edward answered the phone.

“Go up to the lounge on the top floor. Now.”

The call ended immediately. After that, I headed straight toward the lounge. Warm lighting spilled across the room, yet somehow the atmosphere still felt cold. My eyes instantly found Edward sitting at the far end of the lounge. His posture was perfectly straight, one hand loosely holding a glass while his gaze remained fixed ahead. My steps already felt heavy before I even reached him.

“Edward?”

“Sit down,” he said, pushing a glass toward me. “And drink it all.”

“What is this?”

“Just drink it.”

My hand hesitated before reaching for the glass. The sharp scent rising from it made my stomach tighten. Across from me, Edward’s gaze hardened slightly.

“Don’t make me repeat myself, Elena.”

The tone of his voice made my chest tense immediately. In the end, I took a cautious sip. I nearly spat it back out if Edward hadn’t grabbed my wrist first.

“Finish it.”

There was no room for refusal in his voice. Forced into obedience, I swallowed the drink until not a single drop remained. The second I finished, I started coughing violently, covering my mouth.

“What exactly was that?” My voice came out hoarse.

Edward didn’t answer right away. Instead, he calmly took the empty glass from my hand and placed it back on the table.

“An herbal drink,” he replied shortly. “To help you relax.”

I blinked slowly.

“Herbal?”

“To make things easier for you.”

I swallowed hard.

“But it tasted—”

“You don’t need to think about it,” he cut in quickly. “You’ll feel the effects soon enough.”

Not long after that, my body began to feel strange. Like my awareness was slowly slipping away from me. Even Edward’s voice started sounding distant, as though he were speaking from the far end of the room.

“Edward…” I called softly. “Are you sure this is safe?”

“You’ll be fine,” he answered calmly.

But for some reason, his words didn’t comfort me at all. I tried to stand upright, but my body felt lighter than it should have, almost unstable beneath me.

“Edward… I feel…”

Before I could finish, his hand was already gripping my arm, steadying me before I lost my balance completely.

“I told you,” he murmured softly, almost like a whisper. “You’ll feel more relaxed.”

His eyes held mine from dangerously close range. And somehow, that only made my legs weaker.

“I think it’s time I took you to the room.”

“R-Room?”

Ignoring my question entirely, Edward suddenly lifted me into his arms before I could protest. His steps remained steady while my head grew heavier with every passing second. Just outside the lounge were two private suites. Edward chose the one at the far end of the hallway and opened the door without hesitation. Once inside, he laid me carefully onto the bed.

“Wait here,” he said as he turned toward the door. “And don’t go anywhere.”

I tried to push myself up slightly.

“Edward… where are you going?”

“You don’t need to know.” He didn’t even look back at me. “And I hope you’re not planning to run away.”

The words made my chest tighten painfully. I tried to stand, but my knees refused to cooperate. Suddenly, the collar of my coat felt unbearably tight around my throat. In a rush, I pulled the heavy coat off and threw it onto the floor.

“Don’t take off your mask no matter what happens,” Edward added before finally leaving the room.

The moment the door shut behind him, my body twisted restlessly against the sheets. The walls felt too far away. The lights above me seemed to spin slowly. And the heat spreading through my body was becoming harder and harder to control. I bit down on my lower lip until the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.

Not long after, the door opened again. This time, Edward wasn’t alone. He was dragging another man inside.

The man’s steps were unsteady. Half of his weight leaned against Edward, while the rest seemed barely capable of supporting itself. His head hung low, like someone on the verge of losing consciousness.

“Edward…” My voice came out weak and broken before I could stop it. “What did you do to him?”

Edward simply dropped the man carelessly onto the bed. Then he walked out without another word. I blinked slowly. And the moment the man lifted his head with half-lidded eyes, my entire body froze.

Cedric.

My heartbeat slammed violently against my ribs. Why would Edward ask me to sleep with his own brother?

Panicking, I hurried to grab my coat from the floor with trembling hands. But the second I tried to leave, someone caught my wrist first. I struggled to pull away, yet Cedric’s body had already collapsed against mine, pinning me beneath him completely.

“Cedric… wait—”

My voice cracked, broken apart by my uneven breathing.

He wasn’t fully conscious. His eyes were only half-open, his gaze unfocused, as though he were fighting something burning beneath his skin.

“I… don’t know who you are…” he murmured hoarsely. “But… why does my body feel like this…”

Only then did I realize my fingers were pressing too hard against my own temple. Was the drink responsible for this too? My hands trembled as I tried to push him away slightly.

“Cedric, listen to me. You’re not in your right mind—”

“I can’t… control it.”

Tears slipped silently beneath my mask.

“This is wrong… please, let go—”

The words died in my throat. Because suddenly, Cedric’s hand touched my face.

And before I could move away, he pulled me toward him in one swift motion. His lips closed the distance between us.

ELENA“Elena? Can you hear me?”Edward’s voice jolted me out of my thoughts and back into reality. But instead of answering, my trembling fingers pressed the button to end the call. The phone screen went dark again, yet Edward’s question continued to echo in my ears.Boy… or girl?I stood frozen at the end of the hospital corridor, my breaths coming short and shallow. The tears I had struggled to hold back began spilling down my cheeks again. People passed by, some of them glancing in my direction, but I barely noticed. All I wanted was to get out of this place as quickly as possible. With unsteady steps, I left the building and climbed into the first taxi I saw.Throughout the ride, I stared out the window without really seeing anything. One word kept circling endlessly in my mind.If the baby is a girl, it means I’ll be thrown out of the Ashford family. As soon as I arrived at the mansion, I went straight to my room. I locked the door from the inside and sank onto the edge of the be

ELENAThree weeks had passed since that night.Lilian had finally been discharged from the hospital. Her condition had improved for a while, but the doctors still reminded us that she needed a heart donor. I couldn’t calmly stay by her side through the search for a donor. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to, but because everything felt impossible. Besides not wanting to trouble Cedric any further, I was also painfully aware that my relationship with Edward had grown colder—right up to this very moment.Meanwhile, my connection with Cedric had started to strain. Not because I no longer wanted it, but because Edward’s threat still echoed clearly in my mind. I was afraid. Afraid that one wrong step would drag Cedric into even greater ruin. This morning, I sat in the waiting room of the obstetrics clinic with my hands tightly clasped in my lap. The ultrasound appointment had been scheduled since last week. Dr. Lucy had said that today the baby’s gender would most likely be visible.A few m

ELENAMy cheek was burning. I hadn’t even processed what was happening when a sharp stinging pain spread across the side of my face. My body staggered, my knees gave out, and before I realized it, I was already on the floor. My ears rang. My breath came in short gasps.I slowly lifted my face, still half in disbelief. Edward stood in the doorway, his jaw tight and his eyes ice-cold. There was no other emotion except restrained fury.“You shameless bitch,” he said in a low voice, yet every word cut deep. “So you dare ignore my message, huh?”I pressed a hand to my still-throbbing cheek. Tears welled up immediately—not only from the pain, but from the way he looked at me, as if I weren’t his wife but something disgusting.“Edward…” My voice cracked. “I—”“Shut your mouth.”He stepped inside and closed the door behind him with deliberate slowness. The soft click of the lock was quiet, yet it was enough to make my entire body tense. Now it was just the two of us in the room. And from the

ELENAA loud noise suddenly shattered the silence. The sharp clang of metal being kicked and skidding far away made both Cedric and me jolt. I immediately pulled my shirt down, covering my still-exposed chest, while Cedric straightened up quickly. Our breathing was still uneven, but now it was mixed with a different kind of tension.I turned to look out the window, eyes scanning the dark parking lot. Cedric did the same, his jaw tightening.“What was that?” I whispered, my voice still hoarse.Cedric didn’t answer right away. He narrowed his eyes toward the row of plants and the parking pillars, as if trying to catch any movement.“A bottle,” he muttered at last. “Someone kicked a bottle.”My heart pounded harder. I swallowed, fingers gripping the edge of the seat.“What if…” my voice came out soft, almost inaudible, “someone saw us?”Cedric turned to look at me. His eyes were dark under the dim parking lights. He didn’t immediately reassure me, and that only made the tightness in my c

  • Mr. Billionaire, Your Heir Isn’t Yours!   [74] Behind My Back

EDWARDI walked back into the hospital corridor with steps that were still tense. The argument I’d just had with Elena in the parking lot kept replaying in my head. That woman truly had no sense of shame. Bringing her family problems to my younger brother, letting Cedric get involved, as if I weren’t enough.I exhaled harshly, about to head toward the waiting area, when a nurse stepped out of one of the rooms on the right and stopped me.“Excuse me, sir…” The nurse looked at me hesitantly. “Are you Mrs. Lilian’s son?”I frowned. “No. I’m her son-in-law.”The nurse’s expression eased slightly. “Oh, I see. I’ve been looking for her family. Mrs. Lilian just regained consciousness, sir. She’s a bit restless and keeps asking for her daughter. She said she wants to see her child.”I fell silent for a moment. I remembered leaving Elena alone in the parking lot. She was probably still crying like a fool right now.“Or perhaps you’d like to visit Mrs. Lilian in her daughter’s place?” the nurse

  • Mr. Billionaire, Your Heir Isn’t Yours!   [73] Cry for Me

CEDRICThe kiss hadn’t stopped.I tilted my head deeper, my tongue slipping inside to meet hers. Elena flinched slightly at first, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she kissed me back, even if her movements were still a little hesitant. I growled low into her mouth, my hand tightening at the back of her neck to keep her from retreating. The air inside the car grew hotter. I could feel her uneven breath mixing with mine. Her lips were soft, slightly wet, and the taste of them was driving me further out of my mind.Slowly, I broke the kiss only to trail my mouth along her jaw. I kissed downward, following the line of her jaw to the spot beneath her ear, then lower to the pale, warm skin of her neck. Elena tilted her head to the side, giving me more access, as if her body was being more honest than her words.I pressed a kiss to her neck, then sucked gently on one spot. A soft moan immediately slipped from her lips. The sound made my blood surge hotter.“Cedric…” Her voice was hoarse, al

ELENAThe next morning, the Ashford mansion felt far livelier than usual.Several maids moved back and forth through the dining room, placing dishes one after another onto the long table. ELENA“There are only two choices, Elena. We either get divorced… or you sleep with another man and give me an heir.”Edward didn’t even look at me when he said it.
