Rejection

Upon hearing what Amelia said, The handsome looking CEO smiled a little before speaking. “My mother wants me to get married to you. She wants me to take care of you and your child. Miss Rodriguez, do you not want to marry me?” He asked bluntly. Of course, he only felt like marrying her was shouldering a responsibility.

Feeling amused, Amelia stared at him in disbelief. “Excuse me? Do I look like someone who can never get married to you? Or do I seem like someone who isn't comfortable?”

She was gorgeous. As a matter of fact, it was an understatement because one can never tell that she even had a child to start with.

“Miss Rodriguez, this is just a basic question that requires a plain answer. Do you want to marry me or not?” Richard asked emotionlessly, breathing heavily in relief. That was what he wanted.

“As much as you're powerful, wealthy, and handsome, I have no feelings for you. I do not feel a thing for you, so no! I would rather not marry you” Amelia bluntly replied.

Richard's eyes puckered as he stared at Amelia. She was probably the first girl who found him unattractive. “That was what I wanted anyway.”

Like he wanted, they were not attracted to each other. That was a relief for him. He still had Emma to take care of.

“It's all good. I just hope you'll make out time to visit my mother. She has always wanted to see you”.

Without giving him a response, Amelia reluctantly asked. “So you're the new CEO of Miller's exclusive designing company now?”

Richard smiled, and adjusted his glasses. “Yes. I'm your new boss, and you have nothing to worry about. I'll take good care of you” Even though he wasn't going to marry her, he could at least repay her by taking good care of her at work.

Amelia snorted without a show of concern. “If that's the case, nice to meet you, President Miller. Goodbye”.

Richard was stunned. Was he really unattractive to her? That was a first. She is the first lady who cares less about how he sees her.

Thus, Richard got up and walked out of her office. Almost at the same time, the door was creaked open and Naomi walked in, grinning from ear to ear.

Amelia raised her eyes, staring at her with a questioning look.

“Miss Amelia, What were you talking about with President Miller? Looks like he likes you, Amelia”.

“What? Who said that?”

“Everyone is talking about it. They also said that he couldn't take his eyes off you at the conference hall” Naomi gave her the juicy news that was all over the office.

Upon hearing that, Amelia fumed in annoyance. It was her first day at work, and President Miller was already causing problems for her. Such a rumor made her so uncomfortable. “I just hope he doesn't get me involved in such rumors”.

“Those are not true. Whatever it is…” Amelia was still speaking when her cell phone rang noisily.

Sighing in relief, she picked her cell phone up and said. “Hello…”

“Hello, who is this, please?” A familiar voice came from the other end.

On hearing the voice, she recognized it immediately. Tears circulated in her eyes. It was her father. “Dad?”

There was silence between the two of them, but her father broke the silence. “Amelia? Amelia, is that you?”

“Yes Dad. It's me, Amelia. How have you been?” Amelia blinked rapidly to prevent tears from rolling down her cheeks.

“Oh my child! You… where have you been, my daughter? I've tried to contact you for so long but all the means I tried proved abortive” Her Father sounded surprised but in a pleasant way.

With tears in her eyes, Amelia replied. “I went out of town, Dad. I'm truly sorry. I shouldn't have"

“I should be the one apologizing to you, my dear child. Since you're back, when are you coming back home?”

“I'll come home during the weekends”

Sighing in relief, her father said from the other end. “As long as you're good and healthy, you're welcome to come back home anytime. I shouldn't have driven you out of the house”.

“Dad, that's all in the past. Let's forget all about that” She had gone through hardship, and she would rather not be reminded of that. She would rather face the future ahead.

Amelia hung the call-up, and smiled in fulfillment. She had no intentions of going back to the house, but she just wanted her father to know that she was going well.

Suddenly, a knock came on her door, smacking her out of her thoughts. She mumbled. “Come in”

The door was opened, and a delivery man walked in. Raising her eyes, Amelia stared at him. “How may I help you?”

“Miss Amelia, I'm here to deliver this to you. It's from President Miller”.

Amelia frowned on hearing 'President Miller'. Reluctantly, she took the box from him. “What is this?”

The delivery man smiled. “You can open it and see for yourself”

Thus, Amelia slowly unwrapped the box. To her surprise, she saw multiple keys inside the box. “What is this for? What do I need multiple keys for?”

Her eyes caught with a tag on the key. She read it out. “Key 29. Miller luxurious condominium”. She turned her gaze to the delivery man, puzzled.

“What does this mean? Isn't this a key to a building? Are you sure you know who exactly you're told to deliver this to?” Amelia interrogated him.

The delivery man answered. “Yes, ma'am. Miller condominium is a luxuriously furnished building. It's just a perk from President Miller. You have nothing to worry about, it has been lavishly furnished. You deserve it, Miss Amelia.”

Amelia frowned. “Is this for me?”

“Yes…”

Clenching her fist, Amelia flared up. “I don't want any of this from President Miller. I'm okay working here. I don't want any of this, take it far away from me.”
