AVA’S POV

The phone call came barely two hours after I dropped the boys off at school.

At first, I thought it was one of those little things — maybe Aaron had forgotten his lunch again, or Aiden had drawn on the classroom walls like he sometimes did when his imagination got the better of him.

But when the headmistress’s voice came through the line — calm but clipped, too measured to be casual — my stomach dropped.

“Mrs. Sinclair,” she said, “I’m afraid there’s been… an incident involving your sons.”

“An incident?” My grip on the phone tightened. “Are they hurt?”

“No,” she replied quickly. “They’re fine. But I’d appreciate it if you could come in as soon as possible.”

I was out the door before she even ended the call.

When I arrived, both boys were sitting side by side outside the headmistress’s office — legs swinging, uniforms rumpled, faces defiant. There were faint traces of dirt on their sleeves.

A dark bruise was blooming on Aaron’s knuckle, and there was a faint scratch unde

AVA’S POVThe tone wiped the smile right off my face. “What’s wrong?”“Where. Are. You?”“The museum. I just picked the boys up from school—”“Get out of there.”“What? Why?”“Take the kids and go home. No—actually, don’t go home. Just—” He cursed under his breath. “Don’t go anywhere crowded.”“What?”He exhaled sharply, the sound full of nerves. “Okay, listen to me. I need you to stay calm, alright?”That only made my pulse quicken. “You’re scaring me.”“I know,” he said, voice soft but firm. “And I’m sorry, baby sis, but you need to leave there. Right now.”“What? Why?”“Something’s happened — Just, take the boys and leave. I don’t want the boys or you anywhere near a crowd.”I froze, my heart thudding. “What do you mean? What’s happening? Talk to me.”He hesitated, then sighed. “Just… don’t turn on the news, Ava. Please.”“Ethan—”“Please,” he said again, quietly this time, like he was begging. My curiosity and stubbornness got the best of me. He knew better than to tell me not to

ADRIAN’S POVThe non-stop buzzing sound of my phone woke me up. It kept buzzing, stopping, then starting again — a relentless vibration against the nightstand.I groaned, dragging a hand across my face. My head throbbed — the kind of ache from a night of drinks and bad thoughts. The penthouse curtains were drawn, but faint daylight bled through, throwing long stripes of white across the room. I squinted at the clock. 7:04 a.m.Who the hell was calling this early?I reached for the phone, but before I could swipe, there was a sharp, frantic knock on the door before it flew open.“Mr. Voss?” Claire’s voice flowed through the silence — breathless. “Sir, you need to wake up!”I sat up slowly. “Claire? What the hell are you doing here?”She didn’t wait for permission and barged into my room. What the hell? Her face was pale, hair a mess, tablet clutched tight in both hands like a weapon.“Sir—” she gasped, “We-we’ve got a situation. You need to see this right now.”My patience was a whispe

ADRIAN’S POVFrom the driver’s seat, I watched as Warren descended the marble steps, unhurried, talking to someone just inside the doorway. The corners of his mouth curved — that arrogant half-smile of his that made boardrooms feel smaller. And then she appeared. Not fully — just a silhouette behind frosted glass. The way she stood, the quiet poise in her outline — deliberate, graceful. Familiarity tugged at me. I couldn’t see her face, but there was something about the way she lifted her chin, the stillness that radiated authority without needing to speak.Miss A.Even the name irritated me.I wasn’t sure what angered me more — that she’d made me wait over an hour to see a representative, or that the mere sound of her title had started to follow me everywhere like a ghost I couldn’t shake. My jaw tightened as I watched him descend the steps, adjusting his cufflinks as if he’d just secured a victory. His car — a sleek black Jaguar, because of course it was — waited at the curb.He cau

AVA’S POVI hadn’t expected Adrian to come himself. That was… surprising. And a little unsettling.Through the slit between the curtains, I’d seen him from the upstairs landing — stiff shoulders, impatience radiating from every motion. He hadn’t changed. At least, not on the outside. But when he’d looked toward the hallway, something in me stilled. For a moment, I saw the man I’d fallen in love with. The one who had relentlessly pursued me, who used to make coffee in my tiny apartment kitchen and talk about building an empire. Then I remembered how that same man once let me bleed on his marble floor and called me an embarrassment.I turned from the window before memory could dull my resolve.“Miss Sinclair?”I looked up. Daniel, my assistant, hovered by the door. “Mr. Warren has arrived. He’s waiting in the study.”Of course he was.I hesitated for a heartbeat, then nodded. “Send him in.”A moment later, Mark strolled into the room with the easy confidence of a man who’d never been t

  • Mr. CEO's Darling Shame   Chapter 22

ADRIAN’S POVThe estate rose out of the hills like something lifted from an oil painting—white stone, iron-worked balconies, hedges cut into the shapes of lions. Even the air smelled cultivated.I stepped from the car, smoothing my tie, telling myself I belonged anywhere I decided to stand. Still, a small, unwelcome voice whispered that my shoes were scuffing marble worth more than my entire office floor.A guard met me at the door. “Mr. Voss. This way, please.”The entrance hall was as quiet as a Cathedral. Sunlight spilled through arched windows onto black-and-white floors so glossy they caught my reflection in shards. Above, a chandelier glittered, casting a soft but wealthy ambience to the room. They seated me in a reception lounge that could have been mistaken for a museum—portraits of old money glowering from gilded frames, the faint tick of a grandfather clock marking each second I was kept waiting.Ten minutes passed. Then twenty.I checked my watch for the fourth time. She in
