Chapter 3

Penulis: Bright Iridium
Heather didn’t believe her, so she personally went with Sabrina to Cloudbrook.

The white Panamera slipped into place, occupying the same spot as yesterday.

Inside the car, Heather sat in the passenger seat and pointed at the luxury villa in front of them. “This doesn’t just look like your marital home with Luther. It’s practically an exact replica.”

The moment the words left her mouth, Heather regretted them. She quickly covered her mouth and glanced at Sabrina with caution.

Sabrina’s expression didn’t change. She only stared out the window. “The marriage law was updated yesterday. If someone knowingly lives with a married man and presents themselves as husband and wife, it can count as bigamy. I don’t just want Luther to walk away with nothing. I want to sue Mindy too. I want both of them ruined.”

“You’ve really done your homework for this divorce…” Heather muttered under her breath. But when she saw the determination in Sabrina’s eyes, her face turned troubled again. “Still, Sabrina, you’ll need solid proof that they’ve actually been living together.”

“That won’t be hard.” Sabrina’s voice was icy. “The proof is right in front of us.”

Heather still looked conflicted. “There could be some misunderstanding here. Luther may be cold, but he’s always treated you pretty well. He doesn’t seem like the type to do something like this…”

“Heather.” Sabrina turned to look at her. “Before yesterday, I thought exactly the same thing you do. I knew Luther was distant by nature, but I loved him. He was the husband I chose for myself. So during the five years after I lost my children, even when I knew he was tired of my emotions, I never blamed him.

“I kept looking for reasons in myself. I was determined to change, to pull myself out of it. But never, not once, did I imagine that right after I lost my twins, he had already gotten Mindy pregnant.”

Sabrina’s voice was calm, as if both love and hate had died yesterday.

Once her heart was dead, she became so calm she barely recognized herself.

Heather stared at her blankly. Before she could say anything else, Sabrina pointed out the window.

“Look. They’re celebrating over there. Today is that boy’s fifth birthday.”

Heather turned at once.

On the second-floor terrace, a child’s bright laughter rang out, full of pure joy, as if he had the most precious thing in the world.

Sabrina thought of her own son.

Without hesitation, she rolled down the passenger-side window, opened the video function on her phone, aimed it at the family of three on the terrace, and hit record.

At a round table covered with a French-style tablecloth, Luther sat with the little boy in his arms. The child was clutching a limited-edition Transformer toy. Mindy, dressed in an ivory dress, sat beside Luther with one hand holding up her phone.

Sunlight poured over them.

All three of them were looking at the phone in Mindy’s hand.

The boy flashed a playful peace sign. Mindy tilted her head and leaned against Luther’s shoulder. And Luther, who was usually so aloof and hated taking pictures, was actually smiling warmly at the camera.

What a beautiful, happy little family.

Sabrina stopped recording and saved the video.

As the passenger-side window slowly rolled back up, she turned to Heather with a faint, mocking curve at her lips. “Do you still think this is all a misunderstanding?”

By then, Heather was already crying. She looked at Sabrina through her tears. “How could he cheat? Sure, it started as an arranged match, but look at the wedding he gave you... the custom ring, the dress. We all thought that after years of chasing him, you’d finally found your happy ending.....”

She was right.

Even if Sabrina and Luther’s marriage had not started with some sweeping love story, they had still seemed like a good couple.

No one had ever imagined Luther would cheat.

What Sabrina could never forgive most was that the boy was already five, only four months younger than her twins would have been.

That meant Luther had cheated on her while she was pregnant.

Worse, while her children had barely even been laid to rest, he and Mindy had been celebrating the birth of their son.

Pain twisted through Sabrina’s chest. She squeezed her eyes shut and took a deep breath.

She could not afford to lose.

She owed that much to herself and to her children.

“Heather, tell me this. Are you taking the case or not?”

The moment Heather heard that, she burst into even louder sobs. “I’m sorry, Sabrina. I really do want to help you, but there’s no way I can go up against him in court!”

Sabrina’s heart sank, though she understood.

In the five years since Luther inherited the William Group, its market value had multiplied several times over. And the company’s legal team was one of the most feared in North City.

A private law practice like Heather’s would be at a disadvantage from the very start. She would have almost no chance of winning.

“It’s fine. I’ll find another way myself.” Sabrina started the car.

“Sabrina, I can introduce you to every contact and resource I have. But have you really thought this through? Are you really going to divorce him?”

Sabrina’s hand paused on the gear shift. She turned to look at her.

“Heather, do you really think I shouldn’t?”

Heather had no answer.

“I have to divorce him. Luther William doesn’t deserve to be my children’s father.”

Sabrina turned back to the wheel and lightly pressed the gas pedal.

The white Panamera made a turn and drove off.

On the second-floor terrace, Mindy lowered her phone and glanced at the white car disappearing into the distance.

Then she looked down.

Where no one could see, a smug smile flashed in her eyes.

Even though Heather couldn’t take the divorce case, she introduced Sabrina to her well-known senior, Adrian Cross.

Adrian had been something of a star in the law department back in college, so Sabrina already knew who he was.

Sabrina had always been a woman of action. She loved hard, hated hard, and never put on an act. Once she made up her mind, she didn’t hesitate.

The next morning, with Heather arranging the introduction, the three of them agreed to meet at a café downtown.

By the time Sabrina and Heather arrived, Adrian still wasn’t there.

They found a table and had just sat down when a child’s voice rang out from the entrance.

“Daddy, Callum wants chocolate cake!”

Sabrina froze for a second and instinctively looked up toward the door.

Luther walked into the café holding Callum’s hand.

The little boy was wearing denim overalls and pointing excitedly at the display case by the counter. His small face, so much like Luther’s, was full of childish innocence.

Even though Sabrina had already made up her mind to divorce him, the sight still sent a sharp pain through her chest. Bitterness rushed up and hit the back of her nose.

Heather was stunned.

She stared at Luther and Callum with her eyes wide open.

Seeing them from this close, even Heather had to admit it.

That little boy was practically a miniature Luther.

As if sensing Sabrina’s gaze, Luther turned and looked over.

Their eyes met.

Luther’s expression froze.

Sabrina, on the other hand, showed nothing on her face. Only the hand holding her water glass tightened uncontrollably, her fingertips turning white.

Under her breath, Heather muttered, “Holy crap. This is a total disaster.”

Sabrina had planned to confront Luther only after she had gathered all the evidence and had the divorce papers drafted.

She hadn’t expected to run into him here.

But now that they had crossed paths, she wanted to see exactly how Luther planned to explain himself with that child standing right in front of her.

It was his private phone.Sabrina glanced at the pocket where it was vibrating and curled her lips coldly. “Aren’t you going to answer that, Mr. William? It might be your precious Mindy calling.”Luther shot her a frown, then released his grip on her and took out the phone. The call was coming from the landline at Cloudbrook. He answered immediately. “What is it?”“Sir, something’s wrong. Callum accidentally cut his hand. There’s a lot of blood…”Luther’s expression changed instantly. Without another word, he turned and rushed out.Sabrina had been standing close enough to hear the housekeeper clearly. She could not quite describe what she was feeling.Even if Callum was Luther’s brother’s son, it was still a fact that Luther and Mindy had been living together. That alone was enough. She would never forgive him.As for Callum…Sabrina rested a hand on her stomach.Callum was already far luckier than her own child. At least he had parents who loved him. At least he was gr

Luther’s expression darkened at her words. He said nothing, only flicked a glance at Nick.Nick immediately got the message. He cleared his throat. “Right, well… I just remembered I’ve got something else to take care of. I’ll head out first.”With that, he slipped out of the office. An uneasy silence settled over the room.Luther rose to his feet and looked at Sabrina, his brows drawn tight. “Sabrina, I thought you’d be able to understand.”“Understand what?” Sabrina let out a cold laugh. “Understand that right after I lost my babies, you used my name to adopt Callum? Or understand that you and Mindy were secretly carrying on under the excuse of raising your brother’s child?”His expression turned impatient. “I told you. What’s between Mindy and me is not what you think.”“Luther, you’re unbelievable.” Sabrina glared at him. “Do I really have to catch you two in bed before you’ll admit what’s going on?”Luther’s face darkened. “Sabrina, enough.”“I went to Cloudbrook.”Luther

Luther looked at her fury and let out what seemed like a helpless sigh. Then he picked up the desk phone. “Bring the file in.”He hung up.A moment later, Nick pushed the door open and hurried in with a folder in hand.“Sir, everything’s here.” He placed the folder on the desk.Luther leaned back lazily in his chair. “Show it to Madam.”Nick turned and held the folder out to Sabrina. “Madam, please take a look.”Sabrina did not take it right away. She glanced at the folder and frowned. “What is this?”“You’ll know once you read it,” Luther said evenly. After a brief pause, Sabrina finally took the folder.…The file was thorough.Inside was a paternity report, along with a stack of photographs. The man in the photos had a face identical to Luther’s, except for a small blue mole at the corner of his eye.The paternity test also showed a biological father-son relationship.Sample 1: Father, Evan William.Sample 2: Son, Callum William.Sabrina frowned. “Who is Evan William

Please wait in his office for a bit.”Sabrina gave a faint nod.The moment she walked into the office, she spotted the cake and milk tea on the coffee table. They were all her favorites.“Mr. William knew you were coming and specifically told me to prepare them for you,” Nick said with a smile.Sabrina showed no reaction. Her face stayed cold. “How much longer will Luther be?”Nick lifted his wrist and checked his watch. “The meeting should wrap up in about half an hour.”“I understand.” Sabrina walked over to the couch and sat down. Then she looked up at him. “I’ll wait for him. Go ahead and get back to work.”“Of course. If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll take my leave now.” Nick gave a slight nod and left the office. The door shut behind him, and the room fell quiet.Sabrina took out her phone and op

For a moment, the little girl and the grown woman simply stared at each other in silence.“Cecilia Cross.”A man’s gentle voice came from behind her.Sabrina turned around. At some point, Adrian had appeared a few steps behind her.Meeting her gaze, he spoke again. “She’s trying to say her name is Cecilia Cross. Her pronunciation just isn’t very clear yet.”“Daddy~”The moment Ceci saw Adrian, her eyes lit up. She immediately turned and ran toward him.Adrian bent down and picked his daughter up, then looked at Sabrina. “Ms. Chatsworth, I hope Ceci didn’t cause you any trouble.”Sabrina stood up and looked at him. “Not at all. Ceci’s adorable.”The little girl lifted one small finger and pointed at Sabrina. “Mommy~”Adrian froze for a second, then turned to look at Sabrina.Sabrina pressed her lips together, clearly a little embarrassed.“Ceci, this is Miss Chatsworth,” Adrian explained patiently to his daughter.“Remember what Daddy told you? “Ceci!”An adult’s voice called out from inside the law firm.Sabrina looked up just in time to see a middle-aged woman hurrying toward them, panic written all over her face.“Oh my goodness, my little sweetheart!”The woman crouched down in front of the little girl and let out a helpless sigh. “I only stepped away to use the bathroom for a minute. How did you run all the way out here by yourself?”The little girl kept clinging to Sabrina, her wide doe-liked eyes fixed on the woman without saying a word.Seeing that, Sabrina asked, “Are you her family?”The woman stood up and quickly explained, “Oh, no. I’m just one of the cleaning staff here at the law firm. She’s Mr. Cross’s daughter. She’s very attached to him, so she comes to the office with him every day. When Mr. Cross is busy working, the rest of us help keep an eye on her.”So that was it.Sabrina said, “Kids this age are curious and don’t understand danger.
