Chapter 35

Grandma's Savings.

Lyla Atelo.

It was thirty minutes past ten in the evening that I got home. I thanked Taylor once more and apologised for stressing him because now, he had to call a cab to drive back home.

The ride was excruciatingly silent, and I sighed out in relief when the headlights of the car shone on the chipped red house in the neighborhood... my home.

I sat for the past thirty minutes, mulling over my visit to Sage's house. I cringed at a lot of memories, beating myself up and asking why I went there in the first place. Not only that, I was behaving like some spoiled teenager whose entire life depended on her boyfriend.

"Have a good night's rest, Lyla." Taylor took off his hat as he bowed to me and made his way out of the neighborhood.

Thankfully, the porch lights of my neighbours were on, illuminating the small path that led to the main road. The door gave way when my hand touched it, and I stepped into the house, taking off my shoes first.

"Is this how you behaved when I travelled? Staying up late and lying to me that you slept in early."

"I don't know..." I shrugged and murmured under my breath. "I'm sure you have Kendra's number to confirm that."

I threw the car keys on the nearest table and took off the little coat that I hadn't worn when I went to Sage's room. I could still perceive his masculine scent and perfume all over me when he backed me against the wall. I almost blushed at the memory, but I was standing in front of my husband who looked nothing but angry.

"Is this about Kendra again?" His eyes were red and his shoulders shaking. "I told you that she and I have nothing doing. Why will you believe a stranger's word over your own family's word?"

"Fine..." I breathed out, massaging my temples and ignoring how he was openly gawking at the dress I wore. "Something happened in school the other day—"

"Yeah, school. You're going to be using the excuse of school on me now? You think I don't know how these games work?" He was getting agitated, but I didn't care.

"You know I teach rich students, right? Elites..." I stressed out, ignoring his crash out. "And they are always nosy and looking into people's lives..."

"What does that have to do with anything?" He eyed me warily. "How does that add up to coming home late by this time of the night?"

"So... One day, I was having a conversation with my students and someone... just... Out of the blues, she told me about my husband cheating on me and using my grandmother's savings that I kept for our... Children." The last word tasted bitter in my mouth, and there was a pang in my chest that made me feel hollow. Too bad I wasn't going to have children. "This young girl gave me details of how you were slipping out my money and using it to fund and finance your different girlfriends. So, Michael, it wasn't Kendra that told me anything. It was my student." Then I added. "Kendra and I haven't spoken ever since the last time she came here to explain herself..."

If anyone could turn white, Michael did that perfectly. His face morphed into different expressions before it settled on anger.

"Your students will be lying against me, and you will be believing them?" He sounded incredulous. Disbelieving and angry. "They lied to you that I cheated on you, and you believed them? I don't think that school is the right place for you since you're easily manipulated by children!"

"Okay..." I took a deep breath. "If I go to the bank and get my bank statement, would I not see micro withdrawals from that money?"

His face fell immediately. "Wait, Lyla..." His shoulders sagged. "I haven't denied using the money for the company, no. I'm denying, and talking about cheating. Why are you so eager to believe anything anyone says about me cheating? You should know me better than this by now! That's the only reason why I'm disappointed!" He turned around, hands on his waist as he shook his head. "Yes, I take some of the money at times to fund the company. I was going to return it with interest once the company made a profit."

"Why didn't you ever tell me? Or ask me? Or even inform me? Why did I have to hear it from an outsider? What else are you hiding from me? What is your deal with Kendra?"

"You know what?" He turned back to me. "Forget about it. Don't bother explaining why you're home late. I'll just overlook it for today. Why don't we do it this way..." He thought for a while. "A date. We go on a date this weekend and discuss everything at once. We sort out all our differences because I don't like this... bad blood between us."

"There's no bad blood between us, Michael." I finally said, yawning and making my way up the stairs. "And I just went to see my student who was in the hospital after he— she had saved me when I fell into the swimming pool three days ago. She fell sick."

I didn't know why I felt the need to explain my whereabouts, but it shocked me how I wasn't feeling guilty that I was lying to Michael at this point. What was going on with me? How did I change so fast after meeting Sage?

"Just go to bed, Lyla. I'm sorry for stressing you and jumping into conclusions. I wouldn't bother you about cooking tonight. I'll be able to manage."

I scoffed under my breath. Cooking? Even if we weren't having issues, there was no way I would cook by this time of the night. What happened to his own hands?

"Goodnight, Michael." I told him as I made my way upstairs.

She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not

Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you

Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I

  • Mrs. Lyla And Her Obsession    Coming To Camp?

Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't

Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu

  • Mrs. Lyla And Her Obsession    In The Car

Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
