I Will Take Care Of It. Lyla Atelo. I turned my face away from him. "It's neither of them. No one is bothering me." A ghost of a smile covered his face. My phone vibrated again for the sixth time, and that was when he opened his eyes. "Wouldn't you answer your phone?" He asked. "Don't worry about it." I clasped my hands together and placed it over my knees. "It's nothing serious." "I doubt that. Seeing that it keeps ringing after every five minutes." "I will turn it off if it disturbs you." I said calmly, and began to take the phone out of my purse. The phone flashed again as it vibrated, showing me that it was still Michael that was calling me. "Give that to me." I wasn't fast enough, but Sage had already reached out to snatch the phone from my hands. He didn't bat an eye when he swiped on the screen to answer the phone, and my heart caught in my throat. What the hell was he doing? "Sage! Give that back!" I whisper-yelled, hoping that Michael had not heard me calling his name. I wouldn't have the strength to answer a lot of questions at home. I quickly snatched the phone from his hand, trying so hard to ignore the heat from his body as I leaned over him, my breasts pressing softly against his legs. "Lyla, where the hell are you?" Michael yelled into the phone. "Have you checked your time? It's almost nine in the night! Who the hell are you with? Haven't I warned you about Kendra? Is she the one you're with? Huh? Are you cheating on me? Don't you remember you have a husband to cook for and take care of at home? Don't you remember that I have needs? Is it because you're working? Is that what is filling up your head and making you think that you've made it in life?" "I'll be home soon." I gave him a one word reply before cutting the call. "Damn! That's a bag of insecurities you're married to." Sage said after the room was silent again. I was embarrassed to say the least. "Back to what we were discussing..." "Why can't you just divorce him? He is no good though." Sage shrugged his shoulders, still angling his face to look at me. "You're better off on your own." I chuckled under my breath. "Where will I live? How will my life be after then? Do you think I'm able to afford that?" "You will be... Soon." I knew he was referring to my new job as a teacher. I just smiled tersely. "Michael is a good man. He just has his... issues. We all do." I immediately changed the topic. "Besides, I shouldn't also be discussing my family with a stranger, right? We were talking about something else. About funding the school and the projects that the school comes up with." He smiled. An easy smile that lit up his entire face, highlighting the boyish look on his face, and for a second, I could believe that he was actually a nineteen year old boy. "I'm sure we were talking about something else, but go ahead. I want you to be out of my house as soon as possible." My mouth tasted bitter instantly as he casually dismissed me once more, but I wasn't going to be deterred. "So... There was a faculty meeting the day before yesterday and teachers, we, settled on a trip for the students in your class. As a way to bond with each other and create memories for the future..." I cleared my throat and continued. "Um... Camping? I don't know if you've heard of it." The smile was still on his face. "Since the meeting was two days ago, how will I know about it?" "Didn't you just say you fund the school? Meaning you should have gotten firsthand information about it." I tried twisting my way around the issue. "I fund the school, yes. But if I haven't heard about such a thing yet, it only means that Michelle will be sending the staff she hates the most to try and squeeze money out of me." He coughed slightly, covering his mouth with a folded fist. "She knows I will see through the nonsense. But also... She wants to see which staff will be stupid enough to actually come and ask me about that outrightly." I gulped in fear. He caught me. "It's not... She didn't... She..." The words failed me, but Sage looked at me in understanding. "I guess I've gotten my answer, right? She is the one bothering you." He smiled tersely, his eyes darkening slightly. "She is trying to use her power plays to show me that she is still in control of the school... that she can make people scared enough to defy me. What did she use against you to give you that boldness? I know that someone like you will never willingly walk up to me and talk about something like this." I was pleased that he didn't think of me as a gold-digger, but I was still worried. "What are you going to do with her? It—" "What did she use against you, Lyla?" I could hear the irritation in his voice. "You..." My breathing slowed as I whispered the words. "Me?" He was surprised. "How could she use me against you?" "She thinks that you like me... because you jumped into the pool to save me. And you've not fired me already." Sage was silent for a while. "She wants me to support the camp project, doesn't she?" He tapped his fingers thoughtfully on the chair. "That's no big deal. I will do that. You can rest your mind about it for now. Tell her my response when you get back to school tomorrow. I will handle the rest." He added the last part darkly. Alarm bells rang in my mind as he said that. "Take care? How? What are you going to do? Fire her?" I was scared. I didn't want to be the reason why people lost their source of livelihood. "No. You don't fire people like Michelle Constantine." He said slowly, his voice was still deep and dark. "Don't worry about that. You can leave now." I knew that it was time for me to go because I stood up. There was no point dawdling here again even though I loved the calmness and serenity of this place. I paused on my way out and turned to him one last time. "Are you coming?" He raised a brow in confusion. "Coming where?" "The camp... Will you be there?" He looked at me for what seemed to be like an entire day before he gave me a cold response. "No, I won't. Goodnight, Lyla."Chapter 50The Twist.Lyla Atelo.“I'm not…”“…wealthy enough to purchase this? Of course I know that. Sage gifted this to you, right?” Her eyes were beaming in joy. She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not
Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you
Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I
Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't
Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu
Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
