Chapter 14

Just Watch.

Sage Dominic.

Dull.

My life has always been dull since the moment I was born. I cared about nothing and nothing interested me. Not until her... Ever since the night my eyes fell on her, I experienced new feelings... and no one was going to hurt her or try to dehumanise her... Not even her husband!

"Master, shall we go now? Your father requests your presence." My butler came up behind me after Lyla's husband had driven out of the compound.

I clenched my fists subconsciously and nodded towards him, taking measured steps towards the house.

"What are you going to do about it?" I heard my butler ask, and I was surprised that I understood what he meant, but I preferred to play dumb.

"Do about what?" I kept my sights on the patio doors ahead of me.

"After the incident between Lyla and her companion." He continued. "I know you, master. You wouldn't let anyone speak to her about that."

He was right about that. What even made me pleased was when he referred to Lyla's husband as 'her companion'. That phrase dared me to take the man's title from him. He didn't deserve to be called her husband. He didn't deserve to be in the same space as she.

And Taylor, my butler, was right. Lyla's companion would pay for that.

I took the elevator to the highest floor where my father's office was, and when the doors opened, I immediately spotted my father in the arms of two women. They were laughing and clinging to him as if he owned the world.

His eyes lit up when they saw me.

"Sage, my boy." He smiled widely, "I've been waiting for you."

He was drunk, I noticed. My father never smiled, neither did he let himself loose unless he had a lot to drink. But even when he was drunk, he was half sane and could hold intelligent conversations.

"Hello, father." I smoothed my tie and settled into the plush sofa opposite him. "You called."

He cleared his throat immediately and tapped on the women to excuse us. After a while, only three of us were left in the room. My father, Taylor, and I.

"Did you meet any girl you liked?" He began, "You're getting older, and soon you'd have to get married to be able to control the affairs of the company."

My lips curled in disdain as I crossed my legs together. Control the affairs of the company? I was already doing that! I was doing most of their jobs while his workers were partying and getting paid for doing nothing.

"I'm just nineteen, father..." Then, under my breath, I muttered, "As if I'll ever get married."

My father became a little more serious. "I got married to your mother when I was twenty two years old."

"I'm tired of listening to that story, father. What exactly do you want?" I wasn't interested in hearing the sob stories of how my mother had died while giving birth to me. "In case you've forgotten, I'm now a student and I have a lot of assignments to catch up with."

My father stared at me for a little longer. "Highschool assignments are way beneath you, Sage. We both know that. We also know that you have the power over every single person in that school and you can do as you please. You're smarter than more than half of the kids anyway."

I didn't answer him. I just spoke with my eyes, tapping my feet on the ground with impatience. My father knew what that meant. If he didn't say anything serious I was going to walk out on him as usual.

He sighed heavily. "Fine. During the dinner party today, was there any company you found interesting for us to invest in?"

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot to add that I was the company's scout. Scouting potential companies that would perform well (give us a huge amount of returns) if we invested in them.

"Nobody stood out to me." I leaned back into the sofa, not even trying to think at all.

I just wanted to be over and done with this conversation. All I wanted to do was go up to my room and obsess over the woman with wavy brown hair and dark eyes that could break all my walls if she looked too closely. The events of this night crossed my mind again, and I felt a jump in my heart.

"Actually..." I leaned forward, this seemed to draw my father's attention. "I found someone, um, a company that I would like to invest in."

"Really? Which is it?" My father seemed to be excited that I was finally interested in his company's business.

An easy smile spread across my face. "Kendeal by Michael Atelo."

"Ken what?" My father was confused. "I've never heard of that company before."

I shrugged. "It's a new company, I guess."

My father thought for a while before speaking. "The name of the company would have been an instant red flag for me, but since you find it worthy to invest in, I trust it completely." He leaned back and chuckled. "But when you're sealing a business deal with them, make sure you have them scrap out that name and change it to something more worthy for our company's name."

"As you wish, father. Would that be all?" I asked.

He gave me a satisfied look. "That would be all, son." He waved towards me and turned to Taylor. "Call the women back in, please."

Taylor nodded as he followed me out of my father's study. Stepping out, we were met with the scene of my father's secretary fighting off his two whores.

"Don't bother calling them back in." I told Taylor to disregard my father's command.

He nodded and followed me into the elevator. Once we were alone, he asked.

"Do you want to acquire his company and be his boss? Lyla Atelo's companion, I mean. Is it his company you're after? Will you teach him a lesson that way?"

I scoffed under my breath. "His company is beneath me, Taylor. I have bigger plans for him. Just watch."

She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not

I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you

I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I

Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
