AURORA’S POV

Sophia and I pulled into the school parking lot, waiting for Liam to come out. I was feeling down the entire day and I had promised my son that I’d pick him up from school, I was about to bail on him when Sofia offered to drive us. The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the pavement as children ran toward their parents. The car’s engine hummed softly as we sat in comfortable silence, watching the school doors open and release a flood of students.

“So, I overheard Matteo and Anthony talking the other day,” Sophia started casually, her hands resting on the steering wheel. “Something about Alfredo trying to get out of prison.”

I turned to her, surprised. “Where did you hear that?” I asked in a hushed tone like we were being watched.

“I was just passing by Matteo’s office. He didn’t see me, but I heard enough to know it was serious.” She glanced at me her face now full of concern and worry. “So, what’s going on?”

After what happened years ago, she was mad that we didn’t t

ALFREDO’S POVI never liked waiting but I did wait as it was the third day, by tomorrow I was supposed to be out of here.Sitting in this damn cell for seven years has been torture. Not just because of the confinement, but because of how useless I felt in here. The prison halls are quieter at night, except for the occasional shuffle of guards on duty. I sit on the edge of my cot, my fingers drumming against my knee as I wait. In a few hours from now, the first part of the plan will fall into place.A faint knock on the metal bars of my cell makes me look up. There he is—the guard who’s been my dropped the note three days ago. He doesn’t say a word, as usual, just slips a small folded note through the bars. I grab it quickly, unfolding it with shaky fingers."It’s happening tomorrow. Stay ready." I look at him and nod in understanding before he takes his leave. My heart pounds as I clench the paper in my fist. I close my eyes, taking a deep breath. I could feel the excitement pumping

ALFREDO’S POVThe scent of dust and blood clung to the stale air as I stepped over the guard’s lifeless body, my pulse still hammering from the adrenaline rush. My fingers flexed around the gun before I slid it back into my waistband, wiping the sweat from my brow with the back of my hand. The warehouse was eerily silent, save for the faint hum of the overhead lights. I wasn’t stupid enough to think aside from the “fake medic” who stood at the doorway, I wasn't here alone. My sixth sense knew better.I took a deep breath. "Alright, that’s enough hiding. Show yourself."A slow creak echoed through the space as a door swung open behind me. How come I didn’t see that door in the first place?I whirled, gun drawn, body tense. But when I saw who stood in the doorway, I froze.Sofia. Wait what am I even saying? Like Matteo’s younger sister, Sofia! What the fuck is going on here?A scoff left my lips before I could stop it. My grip on the gun tightened. "You? Wait what’s going on here? Are

SOFIA’S POV“Get in the car.” I call out to him as I head outside the warehouse with Riccardo right beside me. He’s been my bodyguard right from high school and my most trusted person.“Where are we heading to now young miss?” Alfredo asked in a mock tone and I wanted nothing but to slap that tone out of his mouth. I just had to keep my cool as I needed him as a tool in my plan.“Get in and you’ll see when we get there.”The car ride is silent except for Alfredo tapping against the window like he was playing a tune. I watch Alfredo from the corner of my eye, his fingers tapping against his window, his face giving off the fact that he was thinking about something. Good. He’s uneasy. He should be. He may have been a monster in his own right, but he’s playing in my world now.“We’re here,” I announce as I pull up to the house, a secluded place on the outskirts of town. It’s nothing special from the outside—worn bricks, rusted doors, the scent of damp wood and gasoline lingering in the a

Aurora’s POV“Soph you’re back….come look at this.” I call out to Sofia as soon as she walks into the kitchen.Dropping her bag at the edge of the counter she walks to where I stand next to Liam who is so focused on what he’s working on. “What are you two up to!?”We watched as Liam carefully arranged his school papers on the table, tapping the edges to make them perfectly aligned. His little brows furrowed in concentration, and I couldn’t help but smile. He said he had a school event and this was his presentation for the event he was working on, he was really keen on making it perfect.Sofia leaned against the kitchen counter, her eyes flicking over to Liam before meeting mine. “Need any help with that?”I shook my head indicating that he won’t accept any help. “He’s got it. Big presentation coming up in two weeks, right?”Liam nodded without looking up. “Yeah, he’s gotta get it all sorted. No last-minute stuff like last time.” I look back at his work and let out a sigh. AURORA’S POV“So what is going on?” Matteo fires at Anthony as soon as we get into his office.I looked around the hallway to make sure no one else was out there closed the door, walked into the office and sat at the hand of the sofa.Anthony on the other hand sat on the table, his face set with an urgency that immediately sent my pulse racing. Matteo, who had just settled into the couch beside me, straightened, his sharp eyes narrowing.“What is it?” Matteo asked again this time his voice was clipped, his patience razor-thin.Anthony took a deep breath. “It’s Alfredo.” Just as I thought. The name alone sent an icy chill down my spine. I leaned forward, bracing myself for whatever was coming next. “What about him? Did he get out?”Anthony glanced between us before finally saying, “No he’s still in but He got into a fight.”Silence.Matteo and I exchanged a quick look—one filled with confusion and disbelief.Alfredo? SOFIA’S POVMy anxiety was having the best of me right now and I hated it so much. The way Anthony had rushed into the kitchen to drop whatever information it was made me wonder if they had already found out about Alfredo being out of jail. “Damn it!” I cursed before taking the last drag of my marijuana on the balcony of my room. I was a heavy smoker and I needed this highness to clear my head but shit wasn’t working. Aurora, Matteo, Anthony, all of them. They’d been acting different after their “meeting”. Aurora looked worried. Matteo was just…too calm and Anthony was just fucken unreadable. I had no idea what they had figured out, but I knew it was something about Alfredo no doubt. And if it was important to them, it meant trouble for me.My phone buzzed, and my pulse spiked.Alfredo sent a text. I grabbed it, unlocking the screen in one swift motion.Alfredo: “Everything good on your end? You’re sure they found out something?” I had forgotten I had texted the fucker immediately

SOFIA’S POVThe morning started with Liam curled up in my lap, picking at his breakfast while I scrolled through my phone. I had barely slept a wink last night as I kept wondering what the hell those three discussed yesterday evening. I need to find out what it is."Eat your eggs, munchkin," I murmured to Liam as he played around with his breakfast, ruffling his dark curls. He pouted but obeyed, stabbing a fork into the scrambled eggs.Just then, Aurora walked into the kitchen, looking like absolute….shit. Her hair was a mess, her night had slipped off in one shoulder, and the dark bags under her eyes were doing her no favors. She looked horrible.I raised a brow. "Damn, did you get into a fight with a raccoon last night?"She ignored me, walking straight to the coffee machine like a robot who had been programmed to do just that and nothing else. Liam giggled at my comment, and I winked at him."Morning Mama!" he chirped. Aurora barely managed a small smile, pressing a kiss to his hea

ALFREDO POVThe boy looked so much like Aurora and Matteo. Finding him wasn’t as tasking as I thought it would be as all I had to do was hack into the systems of the most prestigious nursery schools and go through their student portal. Instead what was more difficult was blending into the school premises. Disguised as a cleaner on part-time duty, even that was hard to get. “Wages are paid after school hours which means you’ll leave after the students leave.” The head of the cleaning team had told me. Her eyes judged me with clear contempt it took so much effort not to snap her neck on the spot. “Cover those tattoos of yours, the kids won’t like them.” She added before passing on the cleaning uniform which looked more like my former prison outfit. The fit consisted of the up-and-down blue fit with a face mask and cap. Thank goodness it was something that aided a disguise.Changing into the uniform I was assigned to clean the dining area where the kids ate and not quite long after it w

AURORA’S POV I took a slow step forward, never once taking my eyes off Sofia. I swear to God I just wanted to kill her at the very moment not caring if she was my husband’s sister. HOW DARE SHE USE MY SON AS BAIT?! She stumbled back, her spine hitting the wall with a soft thud, but I kept moving toward her, each step burning with rage, betrayal, and disgust. The very sight of her made my stomach churn. “You know,” I said, my voice shaking from the fury I could barely contain, “I feel so damn stupid for ever trusting you. And I won’t even lie, I want to pass a bullet through that head of yours but for all time's sake…” Sofia’s face paled even more. “I thought you cared about family. About Liam. About your brother. You were my first friend ever aside from my sister. My throat tightened and tears threatened to spill but I forced myself to keep going. “But all you ever cared about was yourself. You just wanted to hurt us. To hurt my son, a five-year-old— because you’re nothing but a

MATTEO’S POVThe second I turned around, my heart almost stopped.Alfredo had Bella with a gun to her temple. Talk about going from one problem to an even bigger problem. Her hands were trembling and her eyes were wide with shock, not fear but shock.“Alfredo,” I forced out, raising my hands slightly. “You don’t have to do this.”Anthony shifted beside me, tense, trying to gauge the situation. I felt his anger ready to burst, but we both knew one wrong move could get Bella killed.“Finally caught your attention, Rocco,” Alfredo sneered, pressing the gun harder against Bella’s head. She winced at the impact but didn’t make a sound. And then, Sophia stepped forward, arms crossed, an almost bored expression on her face and blood dripping across from her forehead from where Aurora had hit her against the wall.“Oh, Brother,” she drawled mock sympathy dripping from her voice. “Still trying to save everyone, aren’t you? Still pretending you have control?”“You don’t want to do this,” I sai

MATTEO’S POV"No."That was the first word out of my mouth the moment Aurora stepped into the room. I had thought about how I would try to talk her out of joining us in meeting Sofia but seeing how she looked right now told me that if I didn’t stop her, she would pull up something reckless when we got there. Dressed in a black leather jumpsuit paired with a pair of black boots, Her eyes still had that mechanical look to them and she just looked… DANGEROUS."You're not coming with us," I said again, louder this time. She didn’t flinch. "I am." She bent down to adjust the laces of her boots as if I wasn’t talking to her. Bella blinked. "Aurora… you look like you're heading to kill someone.""I might.""Absolutely not," I snapped, moving toward her. "You’re not going into that place dressed like—""Like someone ready to get her son back?" she interrupted.Anthony stood behind me, arms folded and just stared at Aurora before he spoke up. MATTEO’S POVThe whole house was thrown into chaos with Liam’s disappearance with Sofia. Aurora hadn’t said a word for hours, as if in a trance and the worst part…Riccardo had insisted on not talking which was nerve-wracking. “All fingers point to Sofia, she has a hand in Alfredo’s disappearance.”Bella pointed out a matter of factly as we tried without end to reach Sofia’s phone but to no avail. “I can’t believe this is happening again and to my son at that. I wish she took me instead.” Aurora’s voice came from the corner of the where she sat in tears. “I really do wish she took me instead of my son, my baby is too young and precious for this.” Loud sobs came at the last part as her body shook violently. I pulled my wife into my arms whispering comforting things to her. Bella and Anthony came close, “Sofia won’t hurt him Aurora, she might be acting this way but would never hurt her nephew. She might be acting up cause of something.” Bella said softly.“But what does she want?” I fi

AURORA’S POV“At this rate, I’ll be late picking up Liam.” I sighed as I took another glance at my watch, it was more than twenty minutes and no sign of Bella. She’d asked to meet but she wasn’t showing up. Dailing her number a couple of times with no response I made to leave the ice cream shop heading towards my car when a message dropped in. Opening my inbox my blood ran cold. “No…no.” I whispered in fear as I looked at the image of my baby boy asleep in the back seat of a car. My mind went black as I jumped into my car and sped up to his kindergarten which was just a three-minute drive from the ice cream shop. “God it better be a prank… not my baby God I beg of you.” I kept praying as my heart slammed against my chest in fear. Immediately I got to the school premises I caught sight of Liam’s homeroom teacher out in the front with some other kids whose parents were yet to pick up. She sees me and waves my way. “Mrs Rocco, what are you doing here?” She asks warmly with a confused

MATTEO’S POVDay three into Sofia’s disappearance and Alfredo's supposed death. That was how long it had been then. Three days, and we still had nothing except her abandoned car in the hotel parking lot. She checked in and never came out leaving everyone fucking worried. And as if that isn't enough, the damn DNA results were still being delayed by Hughes and Dawson. "I want those results on my desk in an hour," I snapped into the phone talking to Dawson, pacing the length of my office. "I don't care what the holdup is. Make it happen. And don’t bring up that crap that he was burnt beyond recognition else I'll Have you burnt as well."The man on the other end stammered, trying to feed me more excuses. I hung up before I lost my temper completely. This was already getting me on edge as it's been days and we've still had nothing from the forensics or the CCTV footage.I turned to Anthony, who was leaning against the desk, his eyes glued to the screen monitoring the CCTV footage. SOFIA’S POV.I had to get Matteo off my tail and getting rid of my car was the first part. I parked it at the hotel where we usually hosted our family events, flashed a fake smile at the concierge, booked a room under my name, and took the requested to go out through the back exit and took a taxi to Alfredo’s hideout. I knew Matteo will track my car and it would be easy to find me. It’s been three days since our fall out and it was time to get plans rolling. Dawson has been on my neck cause of the pressure from Matteo and I had asked for three days. Damn it! I hate rushed things. "Ricardo, where's Matteo now?" I whisper, pacing Alfredo’s dimly lit apartment. My fingers drum against my thigh as I hold the phone tight to my ear. Leaving Riccardo behind wasn't part of my plan but worked in my favor as I could keep track of what my brother was up to."Still on the DNA results. He's pressing hard as Dawson is stalling to buy time for you. Anthony is headed to the forensics right now to

Today was just one drama after another."Sofia just left the house," I said quickly. "She stormed out after a fight with Bella. I don’t know where she’s going, but she looked…dangerous Matteo, I’ve never seen her that way even when she was mad at someone. It didn’t feel right."A pause. "How long ago?" His voice came back on the line. "Minutes. She took her car, alone. Didn’t wait for her bodyguard.""Stay put. I’m coming back.""What? I thought you were still at the morgue?""I’m done there and heading home. I’ll be there soon. Don’t let Bella do anything reckless, she’s not the type that will let Sofia off the hook easily after a fight just because they’re siblings."He hung up before I could ask more.
