Melody's POV

I signed my thanks to Candice.

She shook her head. "I'm the class president. When a classmate is being bullied, it's my responsibility to help."

As she spoke, she pulled out a pack of tissues from her pocket and handed it to me.

"Your lip is bleeding. Here, wipe it off.

"That Ayanna has seriously gone too far. But luckily, you were smart. I got your text asking for help on my way home, so I came right away."

My hand froze mid-wipe.

"What text?" I signed. "I didn't send anythi

Melody's POVThe Harmons had used underhanded methods to seize a project from the Cambors. That made Ayanna's father so furious that he hired people to make the Harmons pay.If Dad hadn't risked his life to protect Dorian that day, Dorian likely wouldn't have survived back then.I gritted my teeth in anger. Now that Ayanna's father was in prison, it was nothing less than what he deserved.I exited the article and began reading the long message Dorian had sent."Mel, while I was with Ayanna, I discovered that the Cambors had something to do with what happened to us back then. To uncover the truth, I didn't refuse the marriage arrangement with her. For four whole years, I endured the disgust of being with Ayanna. Every second of it was torture. The only thing that kept me going for those four years was you."Mel, I found evidence of what happened back then and successfully sent Ayanna's father to jail. Her mother is frail and has fallen into a coma. Soon, both Cambor Group and Har

Melody's POV"You're the one who made the decisions, and you're the one who made the mistakes. The so-called unpleasantness was brought on by yourself. It has nothing to do with me. And yet all the suffering I had to endure was caused by you," I said.Because of my anger, my words came out more smoothly than usual."If you hadn't used me as a tool to win over Ayanna from the very beginning, I wouldn't have suffered both physically and mentally."Dorian Harmon, I will never be with you."I threw his own words—ones he had once said to Ayanna—right back at him."Every time I think of you, the image of Ayanna and her posse forcing my mouth open and filming me flashes in my mind. And I will never forget the way you stood there, doing nothing."What bothers me isn't that you didn't protect me, but that all of this pain was indirectly caused by you.""Mel, I had my own difficulties," Dorian explained, grabbing my arm. "I didn't want to hurt you, and I didn't want to just stand by and

Melody's POV"I've never forgotten my promise to you. Where are you? I'll come find you."I tapped the screen. As I deleted Dorian's voice messages one by one, I also completely erased him from my heart.Once I was done, I boarded the train home without even a sliver of reluctance. Just because he had his difficulties, that didn't mean I had to silently accept the hurt he caused me. That wasn't fair.…I returned to my hometown and started a brand new life with my parents—a completely different kind of life. It was one where I no longer had to keep an eye on others' moods or depend on others to get by.For the first time, I truly understood what freedom felt like. The students at my new school were all very kind, too. No one mocked me for my stutter. Everyone helped each other and cared about one another.I spent the happiest six months of my high school life there.Because of my constant good mood, my speech also gradually improved. The doctor said that as long as I kept up

Melody's POVDorian leaned against the podium, his expression gloomy as he puffed on a cigarette. He appeared detached and unconcerned, but the string of numbers Candice had shown me last time… It was Dorian's phone number.I had memorized it over a hundred times. I was so familiar with it that I could recognize it at just a single glance. When we were kids, Dorian used to tug on my braids and force me to memorize that number, making sure I could recite it both forward and backward. He had repeatedly instructed me that if I was ever in danger, I had to find a way to call this number.I withdrew my gaze.Ayanna waved her phone in front of me, sneering. "Even though you escaped last time thanks to Candice, don't forget, I still have the video of you."I thought about the video Candice had given me.Tomorrow was my last day here. Suddenly, I felt like playing along with them for once.Just because a person didn't resist at first didn't mean they never would.Ayanna continued st

It would have to be someone who was here," she speculated. "Because not only did the person give me the exact location, they also knew that you were the victim. They asked for help in your name.""At first, I thought someone was pranking me. But then I figured you're usually quite the pushover in class. If you really were being bullied, I'd fee
