Chapter 2

Penulis: Alisha
I had no choice but to call my grandmother, Diana.

The moment the video call connected and she saw my injuries, she burst into tears. She didn't waste a second and showed up at my door with my two uncles.

"Damian! Get your ass out here!"

"You think we're nobody? You dare treat my granddaughter like this and I'll kill you myself!"

My uncles stormed in like avenging angels, and Diana charged forward with her cane raised to strike.

Damian said nothing. He just took Diana's arm and led her into the Shrine of the Moon.

My uncles wrapped my wounds and started planning to get me out of there. But then my grandmother emerged from the shrine with a face like stone.

She raised her hand and slapped me hard across the face.

Before I could process what was happening, her cane cracked against my skull. Blood ran down into my eyes.

I clutched my head, completely stunned.

My uncles moved to stop her, but Diana whispered something, and their expressions changed completely. They grabbed me from both sides and forced me to my knees.

"Mom, hit her harder. Beat her to death today."

"This piece of trash doesn't deserve to live. Even my sister would forgive us for this."

Diana raised her cane. "I'll beat you to death and turn myself in!"

I didn't know how long they beat me. I just remember passing out at some point.

When I woke up, pain tore through my body. I opened my eyes and saw wild dogs gnawing at my bleeding wounds. They'd ripped off a chunk of my scalp.

I stumbled to my feet and dragged myself home, silent the entire way. Dad hated noise.

I'd thought about never coming back to this village.

But if I stayed away for three months, Dad would show up at my office with my two half-sisters. They'd kneel on the sidewalk and tell everyone I'd abandoned my family.

I wanted to cut ties completely, but the national database made that impossible. One missing-person report, and he'd find me anywhere.

After my third boyfriend left because of this, I called the Wolf Council Enforcers.

They came, but every villager backed up his story and said I was lying.

"She's been a liar since she was little, and a thief too. You can't believe anything she says."

"Three kids in that house and she's the only problem. How could it be the parent's fault?"

I knew they only helped him because he was an Alpha, but I couldn't do anything about it.

After that call to the Enforcers, he locked me in an old bomb shelter in the mountains.

Cold and damp, with nothing but water.

He kept me there for a week. When he let me out, I almost died.

This time, when I came home, Damian was already asleep.

My sister told me not to cause trouble and just behave. Then she smashed my phone and laptop.

Rage flooded through me.

I stormed into Dad's room and shook him awake. "If you don't want me to get married, just say it! Why did you convince my boyfriend to break up with me?"

"What did I ever do to you? I've done everything you asked my whole life. Isn't that enough? What more do you want from me?"

He woke up pissed. He grabbed a stool and hurled it at me.

I hit the ground and couldn't move. He yanked off his belt and wrapped it around my neck.

"I want you dead! Just die!"

I fought back as hard as I could, but I couldn't get away.

I managed to pull out my backup phone from my pocket and dialed the Wolf Council Enforcers.

When they arrived, I was lying on the ground, barely breathing.

One day, everything changed when I spotted Leo in another ward. He was the first guy from the video. I froze in place, unable to move. Damian said he was dead, so how could he be here? My brain felt like rusted gears grinding together, and every thought sent pain shooting through my skull. But Leo's existence dug into my mind like a thorn I couldn't pull out. I couldn't sleep or eat. Late that night, I snuck into the men's ward and found Leo. He was awake, and when he saw me, he didn't look surprised at all. "You finally came." I stared at him. "Damian said you were dead. Why are you still alive?" Leo pressed a finger to his lips and pulled me into a storage closet at the end of the hallway. What he told me shattered my entire world. I never killed anyone back then, and I never did any of those things. The surveillance footage was fake. I stumbled into the Moon God Temple and discovered the burial site—all those missing men were buried behind the temple by Damian. When he couldn't buy

The room fell silent, and then everyone started shouting at Damian to get me out of there.I felt utterly hopeless. When we got back to the pack territory, they wanted to lock me in the basement. I didn't fight it, but I made one request."Let me watch the Shrine of the Moon surveillance footage one more time. After that, you can do whatever you want with me."They exchanged glances and agreed.Inside the dark Shrine of the Moon, the lights came on, revealing modern surveillance equipment. The camera pointed directly at my room. Damian pulled up the old recordings and hit play.On the monitor, I saw myself sleeping in bed with a boy. After he fell asleep, I quietly slipped out. Half an hour later, I came back with blood all over my hands. I stood by the bed staring at him with empty, hollow eyes. The boy woke up in the middle of the night and saw me standing there. He screamed and said he was calling the Wolf Council Enforcers.I lunged at him and wrapped my hands around his throat. He

The Wolf Council Enforcers stared at me for a long moment before one of them asked, "What did you say was inside the Shrine of the Moon?"I used my ruined hand to prop myself up and cut him off. "Nothing! There's nothing there! Stop asking!""Everything before was just me making things up. Just treat me like I'm crazy."The Enforcer frowned. "We ran a full medical exam while you were unconscious. Apart from the impact injuries, your brain scans came back normal. You're not mentally ill.""But your body shows signs of long-term abuse and assault. We suspect you're being coerced."My mind raced as I scrambled for something that would kill their suspicions."I... I did it to myself on purpose. I hate Damian, so I faked all these injuries.""They're all fake. Please, just drop the investigation."The more I insisted, the more suspicious they became. After conferring, they decided that Damian had to take them to the Shrine of the Moon for inspection.I begged them over and over not to go, b

I opened my eyes and blinked hard, trying to shake the images out of my head. It didn't work. They were still there. Damian and Adrian's fists came down again. This time I didn't dodge. Let them hit me. "Just kill me. I shouldn't be alive anyway, and I don't deserve a mate." I closed my eyes. The fists turned into tools, and the pain turned into numbness. "You should've died already! Why are you still alive?" "Go kill yourself and don't make the pack look bad!" Right. I should kill myself. I crawled up from the ground. "I'll do it. Just let me go." They stared at me. "Don't even think about running. The whole pack's watching you, and if we catch you, it'll be worse." Damian added, "And if you run, I'll report you to the Council. They'll hunt you down." I looked at them, and there was nothing left in my eyes. "I don't want to live." After seeing what was in the Shrine of the Moon, I wanted to die right now. But I couldn't die in the shrine. That would defile the Moon Goddess's sacred gr

When my siblings saw me like this, disgust was written all over their faces.I fetched water myself and cleaned my wounds. I'd just finished bandaging them when Adrian, Damian's estranged father, suddenly showed up.He stormed straight into my room, and the moment he saw my injuries, he whirled around and slapped Damian across the face."You treat your own daughter like this and you still think you deserve to be Alpha?""You better give me a damn good explanation today, or I'm not letting this go!"Damian tried to explain, but panic seized me. I grabbed Adrian's hand. "Grandpa, I know you're worried about me, but please, whatever you do, don't go to the Shrine of the Moon.""Don't worry, I won't." Adrian squeezed my hand. "I don't care about any Shrine of the Moon. All I care about is whether my granddaughter's been hurt."He sighed, and his eyes turned red. "This is my fault. I raised a monster for a son. Tomorrow I'm taking you away from this pack."I collapsed into Adrian's arms and

The lead enforcer gave the command, and his team immediately restrained Damian and my two half-sisters.The Wolf Council Enforcers arrived and started asking questions, but none of them would talk.Damian's face remained cold. "This is our pack's tradition. She agreed to enter the Shrine of the Moon to test for her fated mate. We can't control what happens inside.""Everything is Moon Goddess's will."Liam came with the Wolf Council Enforcers. He was my friend, and when he saw my injuries, his eyes turned red with rage. He lunged forward and grabbed Damian by the collar."She's your own daughter! How could you do this to her? Don't you want an heir? If you kill her, who's gonna inherit your Alpha position? Who's gonna take care of you when you're old? If you don't want this daughter, then stop dragging her back here! You keep bringing her back just to beat her half to death. You're nothing but an animal!"He couldn't understand it either—why Damian wanted to kill me but wouldn't let me
