Camilla POV

" Alex..." I acknowledge him with a whisper. Alex scans my face, then turns to look at the fuming man besides me. I swallow in fear. If Hector opens his dumb mouth and spouts what he was confronting me about to Alex,I am doomed. Of course, Alex can't punish me physically but I know him enough to know that he will Indeed punish me... emotionally. I can't bear a look of disgust or disappointment directed to me in his face.

Alex,unaware of the tension building between Hector and he tips his head to acknowledge Hector. He might be the beta, only second to command after Alpha Theo. But Hector is the future Alpha,as a beta who will automatically serve under him,he has to show his respect.

" Why are you here?" I ask, trying to occupy his mind before he further probs about us.

" I came to pick you up. I didn't expect you and your mate..." Alex trails off when Hector scoffs disdainfully.

" Her mate you say? So you taught her to sleep around while still mated?" Hector accuses . Alex's expressions change, from confusion to anger.

" I won't allow you to disrespect my sister, not even as her mate." Alex warns with gritted teeth. That's the Alex I know. He has always been overprotective of me for as long as I can remember.

" Disrespect is what she did when she thought that sleeping with..."

" Enough!" I cut him off with a glare.

" Just because you go sleeping around with every available pussy in the pack doesn't mean I do the same." I snap, annoyed.

" You don't have anything against me or any proof to back up your accusations. Don't paint me black or drag me in your mud." I warn him sternly. He might be the Alpha's son but my position in this pack isn't as low as he thinks.

" So,you want to play the good girl?." He says before turning to look at a stunned Alex.

" I'll prove to you and the entire pack that your sister is a piece of trash. When that happens,I'll see how you will still protect and defend her." He snarls angrily. Hector throws me a dirty look before strutting away. I don't know I have been holding my breath until he has disappeared from my sight. I sigh in relief but that feeling doesn't last long when I turn to face Alex and he has his eyes fixed on me. As if studying me, scrutinizing me.

" What?" I ask, looking anywhere else but his face.

" What the hell was that? What did Hector mean by ‘he will prove that you are unfaithful’?" He asks sternly. He is wearing that signature beta face he wears when training or questioning pack members.

" It's nothing. Hector was babbling nonsense." I reply, this time meeting his gaze. I don't look away or let my serious expression falter. After studying me for almost a minute which felt like forever,his expression softens. Alex sighs.

" He looked confident in what he was accusing you of." Alex states plainly.

" You think I am that type of woman? You think I go around sleeping with every man that comes my way?" I ask and Alex looks guilty.

" Camilla,I am aware of what Hector has been doing lately. I would not be surprised if the idea of getting back at him crossed your mind at some time. I don't say it's bad but that's not the best line of action." Alex proceeds to say. He looks genuinely concerned.

" I also know that something happened between the two of you. I have been watching you these past weeks and I think you have changed." He continues and I find myself scoffing. Of course I have changed. Who wouldn't have after their mate confesses to having been unfaithful for long and suggesting an open relationship?

Of course, Hector thought that I wouldn't dare sleep with another man. That's how it has always been. The man can sleep around and the woman would be asked to be tolerant,to try and straighten things. However,if a woman pays back with infidelity, she is called all sorts of horrible names. The society will judge you and persecute you.

In my case,I should allow Hector to sleep around and wait for him to come around or wait until he gets one of his countless whores pregnant and make her his mistress. I should be generous to share my man and be eventually kicked out or be rejected in the long run. I refuse that.

" Changed enough to sleep around with men?" I ask but cringe when what happened last night flashes my mind.

" I didn't say that. I am just saying if you decide to dissolve your mate bond with Hector,do it right. I'll support you ". Alex Informs me and my eyes wet with unshed tears.

" You would do that?"

" I would. You are my sister and I believe you deserve a mate who will love, respect and treasure you. Hector has turned out to be the exact opposite. Don't worry though, there are countless eligible men in this pack. Choose whoever you want and I'll request the Alpha to grant your union." Alex offers and my heart warms.

I nod and throw myself at him, hugging him tightly. He chuckles and pats my back.

" You will always have my back,right? No matter what happens?" I ask, voice muffled.

" Of course. You can count on me." He answers and a smile paints my lips.

" I love you, Alex." I say and Alex squeezes me.

"You are my baby sister,it's logical you love me. Just don't let my mate hear your confession." Alex resumes being playful and I burst out giggling.

" She wouldn't dare be jealous of me. She loves me way too much." I reply. Alex narrows his gaze at me, " Are we by any chance competing for my mate's affection?" He asks jokingly and I giggle.

" You would never lose her affection, not even to me." I answer seriously. Alex's expression changes from playful to a more serious one.

" Camilla,don't forget,I will always love you,no matter what." Alex says and I smile,touched. Sometimes,I get the impression he thinks that I presume he loves her more than me. Technically, that's how it should be. After all,a mate bond is a blessing from the moon Goddess. It is the most powerful bond among our kind, not even a blood pact can compare.

I have never seen the reason or felt the need to feel less loved by Alex, not even even his mate came into our lives. He has always loved me and I believe if a time ever came and he had to choose between the two of us,I'll never allow him to choose me,no matter what.

He has given me a lot of affection since the passing of our parents,it's time he gets that in return and only his mate can give him that.

" By the way,you came home late last night. Did you stay at the party all that time?" Alex suddenly asks and I halt from cleaning the laboratory equipment I had resumed wiping. Panic strikes me but I take a deep breath and calm my nerves.

" Yeah. The party was really fun after you left." I reply and continue cleaning around. I cross my fingers,hoping that my answer satisfies his curiosity and doesn't probe any further

" Was it? That's weird. I heard someone say most people left early." He casually comments.

" Indeed,most people left early but the few who remained,we had our fun."

Alex nods, satisfied by my answer.

" That's good. As long as you had fun. I was worried you were bored after we left.”
