Betsy’s POV

Training was supposed to clear my head.

That was the lie I told myself as I stepped onto the far mat at the edge of Matteo’s pack grounds, far enough that no one hovered but close enough that someone could intervene if I collapsed. The air smelled like pine and cold stone. Neutral. Clean.

I rolled my shoulders and raised my hands.

Again.

Strike. Block. Pivot.

Too slow.

I corrected, moving sharper the second time, snapping my wrist harder than necessary. My foot slid half an inch too

Drake's POVMy room went quiet once Betsy's voice faded from the hallway, but it did not provide me the peace I had hoped for.Instead, it made everything worse.Staring at the ground, I sat on the corner of my bed, repeating our brief chat in my thoughts over and over again. The manner in which she had kept knocking. The sound of her voice as she attempted to make her case. And the manner in which I cut her off.As I rubbed my hands across my face, a frustrated breath exited my lungs.I should not have talked to her like that.Betsy did not merit that sort of frigid attitude from me regardless of how furious I was.But something inside me had broken when I saw her with Maxwell earlier that day.It was more than just jealousy. It went deeper than anything else. Something nastier. One part of me was constantly asking the same question.Should I chase after her?Betsy hardly ever came to my room like that unless anything was seriously bothering her. The reality that she had stood outsid

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 137

Betsy’s POVHaving left Nick's room, I strolled along the corridor, too many thoughts racing through my head. The talk with him had made me uneasy, the more I considered Drake's actions earlier, the more confident I became that I had to speak to him.Ignoring our relationship would not solve anything.I needed to confront Drake and clear things up if he was furious.A few minutes later I found myself standing outside his bedroom door only because of that choice.I knocked and there was no response.I knocked again a bit louder after a few seconds. The silence in the room continued long enough for me to question if he wasn’t around.Just as I was about to knock once more, I finally heard activity inside.Drake's voice then came through the doorway.“Who is it?”His tone was even but not necessarily friendly either.“It's me,” I responded immediately. It's Betsy.“Currently, I am occupied”, he said.Hoping he would open the door, I said abruptly, “I just want to chat.”“That won't happe

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 136

Betsy's POVI felt the eerie weight that had trailed us all the way from school still sitting inside the car as it stopped in front of the residence. The whole ride home had been excruciatingly silent. Drake had driven without saying a word, his eyes glued on the road as though nothing else existed. In the front seat, Nick had kept quiet, his serious expression turned outward at the window, unreadable to me. Even Harmony, who usually found something to laugh at, kept remarkably still. It made the brief journey seem much longer than it actually was.Drake marched straight for the home, oblivious to our departure from the vehicle. He didn't even look my way. Just that made my chest tighten since Drake never treated me with that degree of coldness. For a moment, I stood there watching him vanish inside.Something was obviously amiss.Ahead of me, Harmony had already ascended the stairs as we entered the house. Nick followed silently behind her. Thinking, I lingered close to the doorway f

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 135

Betsy's POVI was not even mindful of how long it had been. One moment Maxwell and I were conversing about anything, staring across from one another in the canteen, the next the space had turned eerily silent.Through the enormous windows, the afternoon light poured over the empty tables, creating long shadows.Maxwell was the first to notice it.He stopped midway through our chat and glanced about carefully.“Well,” he responded with a tiny chuckle, “I suppose we just busted a record.”I looked around. Practically every table nearby had no people on it.Usually present in the canteen during lunch hours, the noise had completely vanished. The gentle humming of the air conditioner and the faraway rattling of utensils in the kitchen were the only sounds left.I gazed around in surprise.“Wait… where did everyone go?Maxwell rested back in his chair, folding his arms easily.“I was thinking the same thing.”I turned my gaze toward the big clock on the wall.My eyes widened. “Oh no.”I gr

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 134

Drake's POVI just looked at Nick straight. We were silent for a few moments. Still resounding in my head were his words, and I had difficulty responding the way I typically would. The weird part was that he was not wrong. And the way he said it with that cool assurance indicated something significant to me.Nick wasn't guessing. He knew.Turning away from him for a minute, I took a long breath and rubbed the back of my neck.Watching my response closely, Nick leaned easily against the bench next to me.“You are remarkably quiet”, he said.“Because you merely dropped something massive on me”, I replied.Nick shrugged a little. “Did I?” He asked.I turned my head and stared at him once again. You described it as if it were the most natural occurrence on earth.Nick gave a little smirk. “Well… isn't it?” He asked.I shook my head a little. You make it sound easy.Nick crossed his arms. “Then tell me I am mistaken”.I stared at him a moment longer before finally sighing.“I cannot keep h

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 133

Drake's POVI never imagined myself to be the kind of person who followed someone just to see who they were chatting with.Still, I was doing precisely that. The morning began as usual. Classes, students crammed the hallways, the usual slamming of lockers, and chatter. Everything seemed the same as any other school day from the outside. For me, nevertheless, nothing seemed natural.Something had been bothering me ever since yesterday's car chat with Betsy. The manner in which she continued asking about Maxwell. How she attempted to conceal it by claiming she was merely interested in me.Betsy was someone I knew well enough to distinguish when she was trying to avoid a question and when she was actually being truthful.Yesterday she had turned away from it.I found that really offensive. So today, I decided differently than I typically would by concentrating on something besides training.I had to witness everything firsthand.Earlier that morning, that was why I walked into the rink a
