~∆~ Sophia's POV ~∆~

The walk to the hotel felt longer than it should have. Every step I took, I was hyper-aware of Kane beside me, his presence, his warmth, the way he kept glancing at me when he thought I wasn't looking.

Milwaukee hadn't changed much since I left. The same buildings, the same streets, even some of the same shops I used to frequent were still there. It felt strange that my portal picked here. Does it mean it was felt safest here?

When we finally reached a hotel, it was a modest place called Riverside Inn, I was relieved to see it was still standing. I'd passed by it countless times when I lived around, though I'd never actually stayed.

We walked into the small lobby, and I immediately noticed the receptionist behind the desk. He was young, maybe in his late twenties, with sandy brown hair and an easy smile.

He looked up as we approached, and his smile widened when his eyes landed on me.

"Good evening," he said cheerfully. "Welcome to Riverside Inn. How can I help y

~∆~ Sophia's POV ~∆~"Fuck off, Kane," I tried to say, pulling my hand away from his grip. But he didn't say anything. Didn't respond. Instead, he suddenly bent down, and before I could understand what was happening, he'd scooped me up into his arms."Kane! Put me down!" I struggled against him, but his hold was firm.He carried me across the lobby, Josh's eyes going wide as saucers, and up the stairs. I was acutely aware of how this must look, but Kane didn't seem to care about the scene he was making. When we reached room 212, he kicked the door open with his foot, carried me inside, and threw me onto the bed.I bounced slightly on the mattress, my hair falling across my face. "What are you doing?" I demanded, pushing myself up on my elbows. He stood at the foot of the bed, breathing heavily, eyes dark with something that made my stomach flip. He didn't answer immediately, just stared at me with an intensity that made it hard to breathe."What were you doing with the receptionist?"

~∆~ Kane's POV ~∆~I woke up to emptiness. My arm stretched out subconsciously, reaching for the warmth that had been pressed against me all night, but I found only cold sheets. My eyes snapped open, and I sat up immediately, scanning the room."Sophia?"Nothing. The bathroom door was open, the light off. She wasn't there.I instantly panicked. Where was she? Had something happened? Had Eva somehow tracked us here?I'd tried so hard to stay awake last night, to keep watch over her while she slept. I'd fought against sleep for hours, listening to every sound in the hallway. But eventually, exhaustion had won, and I'd drifted off.And now she was gone.I threw off the covers and was about to bolt out of the room when I noticed her phone charger was still plugged in by the nightstand, but her phone was gone. The room key was also missing from where I'd left it on the desk. She'd left on her own. She hadn't been taken. Some of the panic eased, but it was quickly replaced by frustration.

~∆~ Sophia's POV ~∆~I woke up slowly. The first thing I noticed was warmth, it was comforting. The second thing I noticed was the steady rhythm of a heartbeat under my ear.My eyes flew open.I was wrapped around Kane. Fuck. My arm was thrown across his torso, my leg hitched over his. At some point during the night, I'd completely abandoned my side of the bed and migrated to his, clinging to him like he was my personal body pillow.Oh God.I held my breath, listening carefully. Scared he was awake, but his breathing was still even, meaning he was still sleeping, thank goodness. Very carefully, I began to remove myself from him. Inch by inch, I pulled my leg back, lifted my arm, shifted my head away from his chest. The whole process took at least five minutes, and my heart was pounding the entire time, terrified he'd wake up and see me plastered all over him after I'd made such a big deal about staying on our own sides. Finally, I was free. I slipped out of the bed and stood there fo

~∆~ Kane's POV ~∆~"Sophia," I said quietly, my voice rougher than I intended. "Will you ever forgive me?" I asked as I held her in my arms. She was silent for a long moment, and I held my breath, waiting for her answer. When she finally spoke, her voice was soft but honest."I don't know if I could ever forgive you, Kane," she admitted, "What you said, what you did... it broke me. But..." She paused, and I felt her hand press against my chest, right over my heart. "I don't want to see you getting hurt. I don't want to see you in harm's way. That much I know."It wasn't forgiveness, but it was something. A crack in the wall she'd built around herself. A small opening I could work with."Could you give me another chance?" I asked, knowing I was probably pushing too hard but unable to stop myself. "I know everything that happened was my fault. I know I didn't try hard enough to find you, to make things right. But I'm here now, and I'm asking. No, I am begging for another chance."She

  • My Alpha Next Door    Chapter 89: Take your sorry ass from my pack.

~∆~ Eva's POV ~∆~The moment Sophia and Kane disappeared into that swirling blue portal, rage exploded through me"You helped them!" I stormed toward Aramada, my hands clenched into fists. "You helped them escape! You know that blind girl, don't you? This was your plan all along!"Aramada just looked at me with those cold, blue eyes. Then she smirked, it was an infuriating, condescending smirk that made me want to rip her face off."I gave you power, Eva," she said slowly, it felt like she was talking to a child. "I made you a blood drinker. I can also take that power away from you just as easily."I froze, because I knew she was not joking. If she takes that power away from me, I will be powerless, and everything will be gone."Now," she continued, smoothing down her dress, "let's step out and act like we know nothing. After all, Kane still has until tomorrow. And if he doesn't return by then, he will lose his pack and your family can take over. Isn't that what you wanted?""I don't
