I saved a trespasser. I spared her life, and I had the option not to. I had the option to leave her to my men, to tear apart and do as they please with her. It was a rule. Whatever trespassed into rogue territory was ours for the taking—they never made it out alive. The fire had died out by the time I looked back at her. She was curled under the oversized shirt, half asleep against the small tent we had created under the tree, shaking even with the fire close. Her scent carried through the air and for some reason, it enchanted me. I had no idea what was going on, but I had touched her and felt like I was burned. In a good way. But maybe it felt like that because I was a man that romanticized pain. She was beautiful, too, but I had seen many beautiful women in my life. Her pristinely pretty face was not the reason I had kept her alive, no. It was her guts, I admitted. She spoke with so much determination, reminded me of young Rhys and his decision to rebel. Goldie would be a temptation to a good number of my men, I knew this. I saw their eyes when they had first seen her underdressed, stirred a strange kind of anger in me, and she was not even mine. At least, not mine to claim, even if she was my property now. Took an unholy amount of self-control for me to stay in character—that creamy skin and huge titties almost had my eyes transfixed. Couldn’t even tell how I managed to keep my eyes on her face. It was little wonder her own brother had knocked her up. Disgustingly so, but no truthful person could deny that this woman was one of the goddess's show off pieces. A Silverfang heir. I ran a hand through my hair and looked toward the woods. My wolves stood guard in the shadows, silent as smoke. They didn't like this, didn't like her, and I didn't blame them. Bringing a Silverfang into my territory was the fastest way to start another bloodbath. Marlo, my second, walked up to me with a frown on his face. "I don't feel good about this." "Me neither. But we have to take great risks to have great results." "Rhys, you are making a mistake." I frowned back at him, "And when have I ever let you all down?" He said nothing in response, simply giving me a singular nod before walking away. I knew everyone else was worried, Marlo was just the only one who could walk up to me and say his mind about something like this. I walked back to the tent where she lay, and my gaze momentarily landed on her bare thighs which were unable to be covered by my shirt. She smelled like me, but different. Even better than Elira smelled when she had my clothes on. Goddess, this was pathetic. Goldie turned to stare at me while I crouched down beside her. The night's glow was soft on her features, had her light blue, doe eyes glowing as she stared. "I thought you would kill me." I sighed, laying on my back with my arms under my head and shutting my eyes, "Not here for a chit chat. Sleep." It was quiet after that but I could feel her eyes on my skin. Somehow, without an iota of doubt, I knew this woman was trouble, but never in my thirty two years had I ever let my pack down. Little Goldie was only an asset for my pack's gain, nothing more and nothing less. The next morning, it was time to get going. She was awake first, her curious eyes flickering around like she was trying to make sure we were not about to do something sneaky. Her hand stayed on her flat stomach, trembling a little. "She looks hungry." Marlo spoke from behind me as the others packed up the tents. I shrugged. "She knew what she was up against, running into the woods like this. She could have died by now, if I didn't show her mercy." "But you want the child in her womb. Shouldn't you try to keep the pup alive?" Our eyes met just then, and for some reason I could not look away. She didn't either. We stood like that for long minutes until Marlo tapped my shoulder, freeing me from the confusing trance. "Are you okay?" He asked with his brows drawn together. I nodded once. "Give her something from the bag to eat." I said, walking away from there. The walk to my pack house was a distance. We had come out like this on a hunt—which was successful by the way—and we had meant to go back today, race back in our wolf forms, but unfortunately, the princess amongst us was too weak to even walk in her human form. "I can pick you up if you want." I heard Draven offer from behind and I continued to walk, even if I was compelled to grab him by the neck and push him forward. A soft chuckle, then, "Oh don't worry, I can manage. Is it very far off, still?" "Not really. But we are not almost there." "Oh." "Let me pick you up. Don't be shy. You didn't eat much, and if you faint you'd be heavier." I heard some muffled little arguments still, and then a small grunt which told me she was in Draven's arms now. Would Elira be so pissed if she found me carrying a woman in my arms, wearing my shirt? "I knew Draven would cave first. We should have placed a bet." I heard Marlo say. I did not bother with a response. We walked in silence, my imagination filled with images of Draven's arms under her bare thighs and her head on his chest. Should have truly killed her the moment I spotted her.SIENNAThe next morning, Rhea ran towards me, a worried look on her face. I was just stepping out of the chambers, hugging myself as a result of the cold from the rain outside when I saw her walking towards me. From the look on her face, I could tell that she had heard everything that happened and was worried but at the same time, I didn’t want her to be worried but when you had someone like Elira in the background, subtly threatening you, that was something else, something no one should ever feel.“Are you okay? I heard what happened… I am so sorry.”I sighed, anger and irritation resting on me. I didn’t know why Elira had appeared to me at this critical time when there was a lot at stake. It just felt like she had an agenda, a hidden mission to see that I was never happy. Now, with her deformed body, it was beyond clear that she had been cursed because of the evil thing she did.“Yes, I'm fine. Thank you… It's okay, please I don’t want you worrying.”“Why wouldn’t I worry? There has
SIENNAI sighed, making my way towards the bathroom even as I opened the shower, allowing the water stream down my body in torrents. Today was one of the days when my patience was tested. Seeing Rhys siblings, something I hadn’t expected was a lot and then getting the news that Elira was barely alive and now, deformed was another ballgame entirely. There was so much at stake, so much and Rhys didn’t seem to even be thinking about all of that.“What in heaven's name is going on?” I muttered. The more the water cascaded down my body, the freer I got but my mind was anything but free. I had just offered myself up to be a spy and I knew with one sight from Damon and the rest of the Silverfangs, I would be dead meat.Walking out, I dried my body with the towel, staring out the window just as it began raining. Prior to now, it hadn’t felt like it wanted to rain but now, it had begun in full force, hitting the window panes in reckless abandon.“What weather.”I walked towards the window, my
SIENNAFrom the look in his eyes, I knew he was dead serious. There was something that told me he had given a thought to all of this in the past. This just didn’t happen on the spot, he had given this enough time and effort.“What do you mean, Rhys?” I whispered.I had no idea why I whispered, maybe it was due to the fact that we were alone and whispering or maybe because this was such an intense moment for us I didn’t want to shout and ruin the mood but whatever it was, I was quite happy I was in his presence.“There’s something I saw in you from the first day I saw you in that forest, alone and afraid. I don’t know what it is but there and then, I was inclined to help you to the best of my ability. I knew I could never leave you to the wolves which was something I wanted to do before because I hated every Silverfang member I knew but still, seeing you there, completely hopeless and alone just pulled something in this stony heart of mine.” he confessed. At that moment, I couldn’t hel
RHYS“Are you insane? What do you think you want to do? You really want to give yourself up for something like this?” I barked.I could see the fear in her eyes as soon as I said that but I just didn’t care at that moment because I was beyond reasoning. I just didn’t want to think about any reason she might have to do this. We had talked about this over and over again but yet again, she still wanted to do something that would lead to her death and I would never allow that.“No dear, I don’t think you should do that. It's going to be a death sentence, you and I know that.” Tara said.“I have to do something to get us out of this situation. We all know that my step brother and the rest of the Silverfang pack members wouldn’t stop until they have us begging for mercy. I can not allow this pack to go through all of that over again.” Sienna said.“So you think the next solution is to give yourself up for them… Is that what you are really saying?” I asked.“Do you have a better option? Alph
SIENNA“Do you think declaring war on them would be the right thing to do? Come on Rhys, we know how these people can be… they have more guns and men than us and I don’t think that’s what you want to do.” Tara said.“Is that fear I see in the eyes of the war goddess? I thought you thrived on things like these so why is this any different?” Rhys said.“You’re just too dumb to see that war is ugly. Yes, I might be a war goddess and excel in it but that doesn’t mean I will willingly jump into it knowing that it might not even be favorable for me. There are many things attached to war Rhys and I pray you never see the bitter and ugly side of it.”For the first time since I had known her, this was the first time I had seen her look so serious and worried all together. There was a look in her eyes that spelled fear and I knew she didn’t like any of what was happening.“Me and Kai have been at war for so long that it now feels like a second skin to us. We have seen people die in our hands, b
SIENNAKai and Tara stood up immediately with an urgency I had never seen before. There was a panicked look in their eyes and the way they had stood up with so much changed expression was something that shocked me to the core. One minute, they had been all friendly and loving but in the next minute, they were battle ready which was a far cry to how they were before.“What? Where?” Rhys barked. The guard who had delivered the news shook with fear, seeing the anger on not just their faces but on Kai and Tara’s. I placed my hands on his, gently even as I tried to calm him down. I knew what this news meant to him but still, he shouldn’t fail to realize that there were other people who could be affected by his reaction and despite everything, he needed to take things calmly.“At the border Alpha… she doesn’t know that we are tracking her yet but from the reports of those who had seen her, she’s in a… deplorable state.” the guard said.“Oh… so she’s not even here yet right?” Tara said.“Yes
