Chapter 3

Author: Zoe bear
Early the next morning, when the wedding planner knocked on the front door with her overly bright smile and her arms full of flower catalogs. I knew she'd come because of the changes I requested last night. But still, I played dumb.

Alpha Martin sat beside me at the breakfast table, staring at her.

"Simona," he said, brows furrowed, "is there something about the reception you want to change?"

My inner wolf snorted in the back of my mind. Liar. We don't even plan on attending this wedding.

Afraid he might notice something, I quickly responded, "Just the bouquet. I want something... softer. "

The planner nodded, scribbling notes. Martin, however, wasn't letting it go. He yanked the size chart out of her hands, and narrowed his eyes.

"Simona, I remember you wear size 35 heels. Why are these changed to 36?"

I bit my lip nervously and took the chart back, looping my arm around his and playfully clinging to him.

"I thought I might get nervous and swell up. Bigger shoes seemed... safer?" I tacked on a small laugh for good measure.

Alpha Martin stared at me intently, like he was trying to figure out whether I was lying.

Just then, Beta Louie rushed in, flustered and out of breath. He leaned close to Martin's ear and whispered,

"Yvonne just had a little fall. She's being rushed to the hospital. She was crying and begging for you to come."

The sound of knife and fork scraping against porcelain shrieked through the air.

Alpha Martin jumped up from his seat, panic written all over his face.

"Call Dr. Millar. Now!" he barked. "And tell him I want the full team on standby. I don't care what it costs—just save her."

I calmly watched him lose his composure, lips curving into a mocking smile.

He was too consumed by worry to even notice my odd behavior.

I acted clueless.

"Martin? What's going on?"

He threw on his coat in a hurry, voice clipped. "Shadow Crown Pack project—something urgent. I'll explain later."

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly turned back, held my face in his hands, and kissed me.

"Be a good girl and wait for me at home," he whispered against my ear.

That phrase. Be a good girl. My wolf growled so loudly in my head I had to clench my jaw to stop from baring my teeth.

I pushed him gently. "Go on, Alpha. Handle your business."

As soon as his footsteps faded, the wedding planner gave me a puzzled look. "Miss Simona, if I may... neither the dress measurements nor the shoes match your previous fittings."

I shrugged. "Change them."

She hesitated. "And… didn't you once mention you were allergic to gardenias? You've requested we replace all the venue roses with them."

I nodded. I remembered that Yvonne seemed to like pink, so I added,

"Also, change the wedding theme to pink."

"Pink?" she blinked. "But Alpha Martin said you loved the ocean. He chose blue to reflect—"

"I know what he chose," I said, my voice cool. "But now I choose pink."

She opened her mouth again, and I cut her off before she could get herself fired. "Don't tell Martin. Just do it."

Once she left, I started packing.

My life with Martin started when we were just pups. Martin's parents were my parents' closest friends, so they let me stay with Martin.I used to chase his tail around the training field while he taught me how to dodge rogue attacks with a stick.

On our 18th birthday, during our first shift, we both awakened powerful wolves.

The luckiest part? My wolf excitedly whispered,

"Martin... he's our destined mate."

Now, twenty years of shared memories stared back at me from every wall—photos of mud fights, first training sessions, school dances, even the first time I kissed him by the lake.

I yanked each one down and tossed them in a pile. One photo had a smudge of chocolate on the corner from our anniversary. Another had a wolf pawprint on the frame—mine.

Whenever I needed him, he was always there.

One by one, I tossed the photos into the trash. Then I struck a match.

The flames danced and licked the glossy prints, turning them slowly to ash.

Belle held me in her arms, her hand gently patting my arm in comfort. I didn't say a word. Just reached for the bottles lined up on the counter. Screw the taste. I wanted numbness. Numbness was better than this clawing ache in my chest."Alpha Martin, you know what's funny?" My voice cracked halfway through, but I kept going, eyes locked on his face like I could burn the truth into him. "Yvonne wasn't the only one, was she?"His wolf flinched. I saw it—just a flicker in his golden eyes, but it was there."Before her, there were others. And I kept wondering, every damn day—did you stop loving me? Did you ever love me at all? But every time you came back, you'd hold me like nothing happened, whisper how I was the only one. That I was your forever mate."I let out a bitter laugh that sounded more like a growl. "I started drinking just to sleep. My wolf couldn't rest when yours was off with someone else."Martin's hand clenched around a photo like he was trying to crush the past. Belle st

I'll never forget how Alpha Martin once held me tenderly by the waist, watching the sunset over the ocean with me.Back then, I told myself that as long as Alpha Martin was willing to love me, I could forget all the unhappiness. It was also here, in this very place, that he made a vow—to love me and only me, for the rest of our lives. His expression softened. Clearly, he remembered too.He moved slowly, carefully edging closer to me."Simona, I remember," he said."At Blue Moon Pack, you gave me your first kiss… and your first night.""I swore to the sea that I'd love you forever."His tone grew emotional as he tightly interlocked his fingers with mine."Now that we're back at Blue Moon Pack… can't we pretend none of that ever happened?""Please, Simona. Just give me one more chance."I looked into his earnest eyes—and couldn't help but laugh."Alpha Martin, you can pretend nothing happened.""But what about me?"The atmosphere froze again. I knew it—he was going to dodge the question

I yanked my hand away from Alpha Martin's grip and walked straight into the room, silently protesting. The room faced the ocean—outside the window was a beautiful sea view. Alpha Martin came up behind me and gently wrapped his arms around my waist."Simona," he whispered, his breath brushing my ear, "I remember you love the sea. I booked this room just for you. The moment you open your eyes, you'll see the deep blue ocean."My entire spine stiffened. That bitter ache in my chest surged up and took control.I shoved him off so hard he stumbled back a few steps, and I spun to face him, my voice rising with every word. "Alpha Martin, I never liked the ocean!"His brows pulled together in confusion, like I was speaking in tongues."Have you forgotten?" I shouted, pointing toward the window. "I once fell into the sea—I have thalassophobia!"My wolf whimpered at the memory.I was twenty. Martin had taken me on a cruise with his elite little Alpha club. I told him I wasn't feeling great, an

Alpha Martin said I loved the ocean, but the truth was—it was his favorite, not mine. He forced his preferences onto me, making them mine by default. Suddenly, I felt exhausted. I lowered my head and sighed helplessly. "Martin, let me go. Think of it as setting yourself free too." "This kind of back-and-forth… it's just meaningless now."Alpha Martin acted like he didn't hear me. He clutched my wrist tightly, terrified I'd slip out of his grasp again. Pain shot through my arm, and I frowned in discomfort.Noticing it, Alpha Martin quickly called the front desk to ask for allergy medicine. Then he crouched beside me, resting his head on my knee. "Simona, I'll tell Yvonne to get rid of the pup, okay?" "Don't be mad at me because of this—it's all my fault."Ever since I was stabbed and lost the ability to have children, Alpha Martin had never brought up pups in front of me. Everyone in our circle urged him not to waste his life on one woman. "Carrying on your bloodline i

Alpha Martin was breathing hard, his fingers trembling uncontrollably. He was holding me so tightly I couldn't breathe—I pounded his shoulder with all my strength. "Martin, let me go… I can't breathe…"His eyes were red, and cold tears fell onto the back of my hand. His breath was shaking. As if desperate to prove something, Alpha Martin pulled out his phone and showed me a video from our wedding day.In the video, when the officiant announced the bride's entrance, Alpha Martin looked toward the aisle, eyes filled with happiness. But when Yvonne appeared instead, the entire crowd gasped.Alpha Martin's expression turned feral as he threw the microphone aside and charged at Yvonne like a wild beast. "What are you doing here?" "Where's Simona? What did you do to her?"Yvonne, gently caressing her slightly rounded belly, giggled and threw herself into his arms. "Martin, didn't you want to marry me?" "Simona said she was willing to give you up. You're mine now, and I'm your

I didn't want to argue with him anymore. Not with my wolf pacing inside me, frustrated and fed up. She'd had enough of his half-truths and full-blown lies. Me too.So, I turned off my phone and headed toward the boarding gate.As the plane took off, I looked out the window and felt—lighter. Freer. My wolf gave a low, satisfied huff. That was something.Meanwhile, back on the ground, Alpha Martin was losing what little was left of his composure.According to the poor airport staff later, he grabbed one of them by the collar, voice booming through the terminal like thunder."Stop it! Stop that plane right now!"But… no one stops a commercial aircraft, even if you are an alpha. From my window seat, I saw him.Martin.Running across the tarmac like a madman, his suit jacket flapping behind him, hair wind-whipped, desperation etched into every line of his face."Simona, come back!" he shouted."I was wrong—please! Give me a chance to explain!"But the plane climbed higher, the clouds swallo
