I’m sprawled on my bed in this stupid penthouse. My skin’s burning, like I’m cooking from the inside, and it’s been like this for three days, ever since I saw Ethan’s arm around Lily outside her dorm, with his smug look on his face.

I’ve been alternating between burning up and shivering like I was dying, which honestly might not have been that far from the truth.

Kai had been pacing in my head nonstop, his voice louder and more insistent than it had ever been before, a constant growl of frustration that was making it impossible to think clearly about anything.

She’s ours, he kept snarling, the same refrain he’d been repeating for days. He touched her. That pathetic human touched what belongs to us, and you’re just lying here doing nothing about it.

I’ve been ignoring him, trying to keep it together, but it’s like fighting a wave.

“Shut up,” I muttered into my pillow, but my voice came out hoarse and weak, which just made Kai more agitated.
