Chapter 2

Before I left the pack, I wanted to give the pack I had lived with for five years one last look. So, I went out alone.

However, I ran into two familiar figures at a shop unexpectedly.

It was Andy and Jane.

Andy's hand was on Jane's waist, and they were talking about something intimately.

The moment Andy looked up, he saw me right outside the doorway. Panic flashed through his eyes as he quickly let go of Jane's waist.

After thinking for a moment, I still walked over. "Andy? Didn't you have important work to do today?"

Andy looked completely calm as he introduced Jane. "This is Jane Brooke, daughter of the Shadow Pack's Alpha. She had ordered a custom-made ring here, so I came with her to pick it up."

I glanced at the ring. The huge diamond shone brilliantly from every angle.

Jane raised an eyebrow at me, the provocation clear in her eyes.

"You must be Milly Gomez. Andy told me about you. You're an orphan." Jane deliberately emphasized my identity as an orphan and a sly look flashed through her eyes.

Then a panicky voice suddenly rang out. "Watch out!"

I looked up and saw the chandelier above me was swaying dangerously.

The next second, it came crashing down!

In that instant, Andy grabbed Jane's wrist and pulled the panicked she-wolf tightly behind him. As for me? I had no time to dodge as it struck me hard in the forehead.

Dizziness overwhelmed me as I fell to the floor, blood quickly trickled down from my forehead. I touched the blood and looked toward Andy, but he was only worried about whether Jane was hurt the whole time.

Even after he found out Jane was fine, he was still comforting her gently and wiping away her tears.

But my vision was getting more and more blurred...

Before I passed out from blood loss, I could not help thinking back to when Andy and I had loved each other most. He would become filled with anguish over the smallest scrape on myself back then. But now, he could no longer see me.

When I woke up, the healer was treating the wound on my forehead. There was a constant, nerve-wracking pain.

When Andy saw me frown, he held my hand with guilt all over his face as he kept apologizing. "I'm sorry, Milly. All I could think was that nothing could happen to Jane while she was with me at the time. Otherwise, the alliance between our packs would fall apart. We can't afford to offend the Shadow Pack.

"I didn't think you'd get hurt this badly. You can hit me or yell at me, but just don't be so cold to me."

I felt nothing at all as I watched Andy put on his little performance. I had already given up on him at the moment he chose to protect Jane first.

Andy kept begging me to forgive him, then seemed to remember something. "Right. Your birthday is coming soon. I'll buy you anything you want, so you just have to tell me what you want."

Hearing that, I raised my eyes and looked at him. "I want to go somewhere far away to clear my head."

When Andy heard me finally speak, he looked both surprised and excited. "Alright. Wherever you want to go, I'll go with you."

As soon as he said that, his phone buzzed as several text messages came in. After checking them, Andy looked at me apologetically. "Sorry, Milly. I might not be able to go with you."
