Brittany

“Oh, shit!” I helped, pushing Andre off my body and scrambling for a towel.

Unfortunately, there was none so I made do with my hands, internally panicking.

Andre also bore the same look of horror that I felt, his mouth flopping open like a fish, with no words coming out. “Claire!”

With a choked sob, she turned around and dashed out the door.

Andre and I turned to look at each other, stunned until I nudged him go after her. “What? I can't go out looking like this!” He pointed to his naked body.

“Neither can I but we can't just let her run out of the house like this…please.” I insisted.

He pushed off the floor doing as I asked while I quickly rinsed off my body dashing across the room to pick up a bathrobe.

Now that the initial shock has worn off, I am assaulted by guilt and disgust.

I mean I always knew what I was doing was wrong but the look on our face really drove it home.

I ran downstairs only to see her running past the garage so I doubled back and cut her off at the lawn. “Please wait, I can explain.”

She looked up and the tears streaming down her cheeks, coupled with the pain in her eyes…I tried hard not to cry. “You…you snake.”

“Claire, it's not what you think, I can explain…” I begged.

She let out a humourless laugh. “Oh, really? So I didn't see my father going down on you and you screaming at the top of your lungs in pleasure?

Oh, my god! How could I have been so stupid…it all makes sense now, the excuses…you guys spending so much time together when I'm not there.”

“I swear that I didn't plan for this to happen, it just did.” I pleaded, even though I knew how useless my words were.

“Right, you just slipped and fell onto his dick, huh?” She angrily swipes off her tears with the back of her palm. “You know I spent days, weeks crying to you about what's going on with my life and the divorce and the entire time, you're the reason behind it!”

My heart shattered into a million pieces. “Claire…”

“I trusted you!” She tells, stabbing her finger at me. “You fucking betrayer! My whole life is shambles…how could do that to me?”

“Claire!” Andre's voice boomed, interrupting out conversation.

Her head snapped to the side, and if I thought she was furious before, it's nothing compared to the anger that shadowed her face in the next instant. “Oh, don't fucking come near me, you pervert! You sick fuck!”

“Claire, don't you dare talk to me like that.” His hands turned to fists. “Come inside, let's talk.”

“About what?” She scoffs. “You preach about being responsible but you don't know the first thing about it!”

I meet Andre's eyes over her head and that irritated her. “So you're giving each other signals now? Fuck this!”

Before either Andre or I could move, she ran over to her father's BMW and jerked the car doors open.

In a blink of an eye, she revved the engines and got drove out of the compound, making sure to drive past me, running the tires over a puddle and splash dirty water on me.

“Claire!” I yelled after the car.

Sighing, I tugged at my now brown robe, disgusted by the dirty water.

“Hey, come here.” Andre tried to pull me into his arms but I shrugged him off immediately.

‘What's wrong with you? Can't you see that your daughter is angry with both you and me?!” I stomped my foot. “Why aren't you more concerned o-or worried?”

“Because I love you.” This time, his hands clamped around my shoulders, causing him to plaster his body on mine. “I was serious about us being together and it's only a matter of time before she found out anyway.”

I desperately wanted to bury my head in the sand, look into his baby blue eyes and believe that everything was all going to be okay but I'm not that naive. “Still, what about your wife? The divorce? You said that if there's any evidence of fowl play or-”

“Let me worry about that, not you.” He smiled, planting an open-mouthed kiss on my forehead. “And for your correction, it's soon to be ex-wife.”

Biting down on my lower lip, I couldn't help but shake this feeling that everything's not gonna be okay like he said.

“Andre-”

His eyes darkened as he leaned closer, placing a finger on my mouth. “Uh-uh, what did I say you call me when we're alone?”

My body tingled with heat. “Daddy?”

“Urgh…” A guttural groan tore from his chest. “Yes, baby?”

My mind spaced for a second and Andre took advantage of that, tucking his hands under my legs and carrying me bridal style.

“Andre, what are you doing?!” I shriek, dangling my legs in the air.

“Finishing what we started, baby.” he chuckled, heading straight for the front door.

I shook my head in bemusement. His daughter just found out about us and his brain goes straight to sex?

Men…

I wasn't any better though as I just waited for him to cross that threshold and pounce on me, instead of dissuading him.

He strode over to the loveseat couch, sliding me down his body before pushing me back to the couch.

Propped up on my elbows, I looked up at him with hooded eyes, only for the the door knob to  flip.

My eyes widened and instantly, I jerked up to my feet, coming to stand behind Andre.

I had no idea who it was as Claire would have just barged right in.

The door opening seemed to take several minutes but in reality, it was only seconds.

It swung inwards to reveal Leila, the last person I was expecting to see.

She took one look at us and wasn't in the least bit surprised.

“So it's true?” Those cold grey eyes moved over to me. “You're the whore that's fucking my husband?”

BrittneyThe steady beeping of the monitors was what woke me up.My eyelids felt like lead, heavy and full, but when I managed to pry them open, the pale, antiseptic-white ceiling greeted me again.I'm at the hospital.I shifted around in bed, turning this way and that.Maybe it was the position I slept in, but my throat was dry, my lips cracked, and my body ached in places I couldn’t even name anymore.I turned my head to the side and for a moment, I expected Andre’s tall frame to be by my bedside, his dark eyes locked on me, arms folded in that protective but frustrating way of his.But the chair beside me was empty, a rumpled crease on the cushion which was the only proof that he’d been there.“Where… where is he?” I tried to sit up, my voice was scratchy and weaker than I’d like, but the nurse bustling around with a chart at the foot of the bed looked up with a practiced, professional smile.“Oh, Mr. DeMarco had to leave rather suddenly,” she said, as if she’d anticipated the ques

AndreThe boardroom was empty, but it felt like the arguments were still hanging in the air, bouncing off the polished walls and into my head.I sat at the end of the long table, my jacket thrown over the back of the chair, my sleeves rolled up, but every part of me was vibrating with tension.Which is why I couldn't sit still or get my mind off the impending crisis happening in the company. As soon as the board meeting disbanded, I dove straight into the files. They were currently spread in front of me looking harmless enough…. A series of numbers, percentages, transactions.Yet I couldn't find anything in them. That might point me to where the errors were.I’ve dealt with hostile takeover attempts before. When you grow your company into something as big as mine was, vultures always circle around, hoping to cut a bite off the piece of the cake. But this one… this one was different. This one was too coordinated, too precise, too damn good.I should have gone home hours ago, but the th

AndreThe jet touched down on the private airstrip with a soft jolt that pulled me from a restless half-sleep.Throughout the short flight, I couldn't calm my anxious nerves for some reason.I rubbed at my temple, the weight of the last forty-eight hours still pressing against me.Unlike what Marcus promised, he couldn't secure a flight in the next hour.I had to wait five hours, and then technical issues happened, which only lengthened the time frame.Brittany’s face flashed in my mind… her pale skin in that hospital bed, the way her chest rose and fell in slow, ragged breaths.Leaving her was another type of agony as every moment away from her was one that I couldn't ascertain if she was safe or not, but sadly, I didn’t have the luxury of staying. Not when someone was orchestrating a rather elaborate plan to take down my company. As the hostess grabbed my bag, leading me out of the plane, I spotted a black SUV already waiting by the steps of the plane.Marcus stood near it, phone in

AndreThe steady rhythm of the monitor was the only thing cutting through the silence of Brittany’s hospital room.It took several hours before she dozed off, the nurses pumping her full of drugs when the pain became too much.It was a bit disconcerting, facing the quiet all alone but I’d gotten used to it… the faint beeping of the monitors, the low hum of the fluorescent lights overhead. It was strange, the comfort it gave me, even though it reminded me how fragile everything was right now.Especially Brittney..My eyes moved to where she lay peacefully on the hospital bed.She was sleeping, the drugs still dragging her under. Her face looked softer in sleep, less weighed down by fear, suspicion, or that warmth she always tried to keep hidden when she looked at me.A strand of hair slipped over her cheek, and before I could think twice, I leaned forward and brushed it back with my fingers. My hand lingered longer than it should have, the warmth of her skin grounding me.God, it's fun

LeilaThe hotel room we were in smelled of old money and secrets.Whoever had decorated it clearly thought velvet curtains and heavy carpets whispered luxury, but to me it reeked of cheapness…. The kind of decoration that was common in a low-class brothel. It also stank of desperation. The kind that brought me here, sitting across from Adam Willis at a polished mahogany table, pretending that a half-drunk glass of wine steadied my nerves. It didn’t.Claire lounged on the loveseat near the window, her posture hunched with annoyance, as if she’d been dragged into a business meeting she had no patience for.I stared at her, the light flutter of pride I felt whenever I looked at her present. My beautiful daughter. The one Andre had sidelined. She was supposed to be at the forefront of the company, running it behind the scenes not doing whatever she currently was.She had so much potential that should be exploited instead, but it lay dormant. And I hated Andre more for it.Because it was a

BrittneyWhen Andre burst into the room, he wasn’t the composed businessman who wore quiet suits and quieter smiles. He came in like a storm… hair mussed from the run, shirt collar undone, the lines around his mouth carved hard from fear.He went straight to my bedside and didn’t bother with small talk; he dropped to the chair beside me and braced his hands on the rail as if clinging to something that might otherwise fly away.“Brittany,” he breathed, like he’d been rehearsing that name against some private horror he witnessed. His voice shoo slightly. For the first time, I thought I might actually see fear in his eyes.Relief hit me harder than I expected. He was here. He was real. He was standing in the room, and I could breathe a bit easier knowing that he was around. It wasn't until he said the first stupid, inevitable thing.“You should have called me!” he said, too loud in the calm room. “You knew how dangerous it was and yet you snuck out of the house! At the first sign of dang
