Brittney

I take a step forward, my motherly instincts rising at the way he spoke to me.

No person was going to take my baby away from me!

“Don't you dare! You're wondering why I kept Samantha from you, this is why, because all you know how to do is respond to things with a show of violence, and I'll be damned if I let you take my baby away!”

His laugh was mocking and cruel. “Right, and you think you can stop me? You and what army?”

I paused, realizing that if I antagonize him, he'll probably turn the tables against me on purpose just to spite me.

“Okay, fine, you win!” I threw my hands up in defeat. “You've proven that you're the big bad wolf so can we stop?”

“Stop what?” His eyes narrowed. “I'm serious when I mean that I want to be in Samantha's life.”

Exhausted from all the arguing, I gave in. “Sure and maybe later in the day, we can sit down and discuss visitation. Maybe you'll come in once or twice a week.”

“No, no, no, I don't want that.” He refused. “I don't think you understand

AndreI drifted in and out of consciousness, blinding pain bouncing all around my skull. At first, all I heard were voices accompanied by darkness and the lights.Bright, harsh lights that felt like needles drilling into my brain.I felt a hard, metal surface underneath my body, the entire ground beneath me shaking or maybe it was just in my head. Then came the smell of ammonia and bleach, strong and pungent drifting across my nose.I didn't know if hours or minutes had passed the next time I woke but I was more lucid and the pain in my head had lessened.I managed to twist my head to the side, noticing hooks with IV lines embedded in them throughout my skin, several parts of my arm were bandaged and I couldn't feel my left side.Just what the hell had happened?Falling to my back, I sucked in deep, structured breaths, trying to recall the last thing I remember.Gemma Walker. The name jumps into my brain with the force of a train, kickstarting a whole course of events.Holy shit, I wa

AndreI made a mistake.I underestimated Leila's fury.Exhausted from work the previous day, I went to bed falling asleep with my phone on silent because I didn't want to be disturbed. That wasn't a good idea.I woke up the next morning with sunlight streaming on my face from the open curtains, and my phone buzzing like a madman underneath my pillow.Popping open one eye, I searched for the phone, still half asleep. For shits sake, I swear to God if this isn't important I'm in the mood to fire someone.Once I had retrieved my phone, I glanced at the caller ID, noticing that it was Michelle. “What the hell is it? Can't you see that it's just past 8:00 in the morning?!”“That's kind of why I am calling you sir.” Her voice was shaky which was the first sign I knew that something was wrong. “Have you checked the news today?”“No, I haven't because I was still sleeping. You woke me up.” I grunted, rolling out of bed.Placing the call on speaker, I searched around for my pants. “What's goin

Brittney“Welcome to Kinney & Pearson,” The Preeti blind assistant smiled as she ushered is into his office. “Mr Kinney will be with you in a moment.”Claire and I walked in, sitting side by side in the expansive office while we waited.I have to admit his office is equally as impressive as the building. His entire office was probably the size of my whole apartment with two large bookshelves occupying the right wall, a wet bar, and a massive L-shaped couch for relaxing.“Wow, you weren't kidding when you said he was in the big leagues.” I whistled, impressed once again.“You just wait until you see him in action, then you'll know why I placed him on a very large retainer. The man himself walks in a few minutes later, reeking of expensive perfume and a smothering cologne. His full head of brown hair was slicked back from his forehead, and a custom-made navy blue suit tapered down his lithe frame.“Wow, I'm honored to have such beautiful ladies visiting me today.” He grinned as he appro

  • My Bestfriend’s Father   Chapter 61

AndreGoing to the school was a dumb idea.Maybe the dumbest thing I've ever done but the school called, stating that they needed her to get picked up from school since they couldn't reach out to Brittney.Maybe I should have reached out to Brittney before I went over there but honestly, I wasn't thinking so clearly. All I saw was an opportunity to finally meet and bond with Samantha…so I took it.And I must say it was the second best feeling that I've ever had. The first of course, was watching Claire being brought into the world, and hearing her first cry.Damn.Thinking about that now makes me realize that I wasn't there when Samantha was being delivered. And all the other wholesome experiences that I've missed. It's bittersweet, meeting Samantha like that. She looked up at me with excitement upon seeing the gifts but with a certain distance and unfamiliarity that you give to a stranger.Truth to be told, I was nervous as hell.I must have stopped by three different toy stores, sea

BrittneyClaire didn't wait to hear the end of the sentence before grabbing her bags, informing me that she would tag along for the ride. The car ride to Samantha's school was about thirty minutes, but I was on edge for every minute, mentally wishing I could just disappear and appear right in front of the gates, but sadly, I had to wait. When the car finally rolled up, I had already jumped out before the driver braked, nearly hurting myself in the process.I didn't care… my mind was on overdrive. It was already closing period, with parents pulling up in different cars to take their kids home.Scanning my surroundings, I searched for the lady who reached out to me earlier, spotting her by the swing set.I rushed over to her. “Where is she?” I noted, slightly out of breath.“She's right here.” Andre boomed from behind me.I turned to face him and saw Samantha literally hugging his leg while smoking up at him, a cotton candy in her mouth.Red, hot anger like I'd never felt before flared

  • My Bestfriend’s Father   Chapter 59

BrittneyI was typing on my laptop when Claire breezed in, her Chanel perfume announcing her arrival before she stepped into the room.“Now, what the hell did you say to him?” She huffed angrily, her voice loud enough to carry such that heads turned, people looking at me.My eyes widened and instantly, I crossed to the door, throwing out apologetic looks as I closed the door. “Jeez, a bit of warning, will ya?” I huffed, flipping my hair back. “What is it?”“I just came from a meeting with my father and honestly, I'm so mad, I could punch through a wall.” She groaned, her face turning red.“Um, please, don't.” I chuckled nervously. “What happened?”“I think I should be asking you that question.” She turned green eyes on me. “What did you say to him? Not only is he digging his heels in but he's also refusing to back off!”“Why do you think I had something to do with that?”“Because he said he offered an olive branch to you earlier and you told him to ‘shove it up his ass’. His words, no
