Chapter 2

Author: Crispy Coco
“Don’t just stand there. Let’s go.”

The Beta, Kael, stared me down, his expression and tone ice-cold.

I moved like a robot, bending down to pick up my backpack.

My phone buzzed. A message from Declan.

[Go with Kael for now. I’ll come and explain later tonight.]

I stared at the cold text, my fingers trembling as I typed back. [Why did you lie to me?]

His reply was even more impatient.

[Don’t cause a scene. This isn't the place for your drama.]

A single tear splashed onto the screen.

I followed Kael downstairs, past the pack’s elite enforcers, who stared at me with open scorn.

“That’s her? The mistress clinging to the Alpha?”

“The Luna is so generous, personally greeting her like that.”

“Generous? Hah. A true Luna doesn't lose sleep over a stray.”

A wave of laughter followed. I gritted my teeth, trying desperately to ignore their stinging words.

The car stopped in front of a tower that scraped the sky.

Kael tossed me a key card. “The Alpha’s command. You’re staying here for now.”

Without another word, he drove off.

The area was deserted. I had no way of leaving even if I wanted to.

I swiped the card and opened the door.

The scent of pure luxury hit me.

It was a penthouse suite. An entire wall was made of transparent crystal, offering a panoramic view of the Northern City’s lights. The faint scent of a woman’s perfume lingered in the air.

This was what Declan called his “humble place”?

I thought of all the nights he’d held my hand, his voice tired and guilty. “Aria, the place I’m living in now is so small. You deserve better. When I’m strong enough, I’ll build you the most beautiful den.”

I thought of how I’d saved every penny each month, draining my own life force to heal my packmates in exchange for precious energy crystals, just to send them to him through secret channels.

I thought of how I’d rejected every worthy Beta in my own pack, all because I believed in the man I’d chosen as my Fated Mate.

It was all one big, terrible joke.

I collapsed onto the plush carpet, my eyes drawn to a massive portrait on the wall.

I froze.

In the painting, Declan was dressed in black royal robes, standing beside Celeste in a white gown before a statue of the Moon Goddess. Under the watchful eyes of the Elders, they were exchanging eternal vows.

In the bottom right corner, the date of the ceremony was inscribed.

I remembered that day. It was the day I came of age.

That day, I had asked him, full of hope and excitement, “Declan, I’m an adult now. When can we complete our mating bond?”

He had replied: [Soon, Aria. Just wait for me a little longer.]

And on that very day, in the Northern City, he was pledging his life to another woman.

I burst into the bedroom like a madwoman. Their intimate photos were on the nightstand. Celeste’s silk and lace lingerie hung in the closet. The vanity was covered in expensive jewelry.

The last shred of hope I had was obliterated when I pulled open the nightstand drawer.

A photo slipped out.

It was a portrait of Celeste. And there, just above her collarbone, was the silver wolf’s head sigil—the mark of a full, permanent mating bond from Declan.

The complete marking he had promised me, he had already given to his Luna.

I crumpled to the cold floor, the sobs wracking my body.

I remembered that stormy night seven years ago, when I followed the scent of blood deep into the forest and found him. He had been wounded by silver, barely breathing.

I had felt the pull of our fated bond and used every last drop of my healing power to bring him back from the brink of death.

When he woke up, he told me his name was Declan. A low-ranking Beta, an outcast, bullied for his weak bloodline.

We spent six blissful months together before he told me he had to return to the Northern pack.

He held my hands, his gaze more serious than I’d ever seen it. “Aria, the Moon Goddess brought us together. This is fate. But right now, I have nothing. I can’t give you any promises.”

I squeezed his hands back. “I don’t care. Declan, when you’re strong enough, we’ll complete our bond. I can wait.”

After that, we made love countless times, but he only ever gave me a temporary mark. He always said that one day, we would have our ceremony and become true mates.

It turned out he was lying from the very beginning.

He wasn't a Beta; he was an Alpha.

He wasn't coming back to claim me; he was already sharing his throne.

I curled up on the floor, crying until my throat was raw, until my whole body shook with spasms.

In the portrait on the wall, Declan gazed at Celeste with a look of pure, adoring love.

The same look he once gave me when he said:

“Aria, in my heart, nothing is more important than you.”

Aria's POVI settled in a small pack, far from the Northern City. The weather was like spring all year round, with green mountains and clear streams. There were no complicated pack politics. It was the perfect place to forget.I opened a small healing clinic, treating the aches and illnesses of the local pack members. They respected me for my healing abilities. No one pointed fingers at me here. I was finally living a peaceful life.It was a long time before I saw news about Declan again.Celeste had given birth to a son. For the baby's one-month celebration, they'd invited every noble wolf in the North.I looked at the photo of their family of three and felt nothing.Maybe letting go of a love that felt soul-deep wasn't so impossible after all.I saw Declan again two years later. It was a quiet afternoon. I was humming a song while organizing my herbs. The wind chime on the door jingled, and just like that, Declan walked into my clinic. It had been two years, but the first thing he sa

Aria's POVMy dad made a full recovery two weeks later. We went home from the clinic. After learning the truth, my dad's anger finally subsided, replaced by a fury directed at Declan, calling him every name in the book. But my life didn't go back to normal. The rumors in the Snow Fang Pack about me being the Alpha's mistress were just as bad as they had been in the North. The way the pack members looked at me was always… different.Sympathy, contempt, but mostly, they looked at me like I was a joke."That's her, right? The one who was dumped by the Northern Alpha.""I heard from a wolf in the North that she actually knelt and apologized to the Luna in public.""Serves her right for trying to climb so high."It got so bad that the more aggressive members of the pack would stand outside my parents' house, shouting for the "shameless mistress to get out of the Snow Fang Pack."I could argue until I was blue in the face, but some people would never believe me.Then, just when I was at my w

Aria's POVI struggled to push him away, but he only held me tighter."I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault…""Aria, I know everything. Your dad was hurt, and Celeste drove you away.""I've missed you so much these last few days."I shoved him away with all my strength, my voice cold. "Declan, your temporary mark is gone. There's nothing between us anymore. No one forced me to do anything. I left because I wanted to.""Aria, I'm sorry. Hiding my marriage from you was wrong."Declan took my hand and pressed it against his warm chest, his eyes full of love."Celeste and I have a political marriage. It's an arrangement. You're the one I love. You've always been the one.""Aria, come back with me. I can give you anything you want, except the title of Luna.""Like what?" I watched him, my face a mask of ice."Resources, status, protection," he said quickly. "I'll make everyone respect you. I'll give you the best of everything…""Listen to yourself," I cut him off. "Declan, do you real

Aria's POVI rushed back to the Snow Fang Pack without stopping. The moonpetal grass had worked; my dad was out of danger. When I walked into the clinic, a dozen pairs of eyes locked on me.I was used to those mocking stares from my time in the Northern City."Aria, what were you thinking? Instead of finding a decent mate, you had to go chase an Alpha?""Isn't it obvious? Being an Alpha's mistress gets you a lot of resources. How else could she get her hands on moonpetal grass?""You've brought shame on our entire pack!"I was numb to their accusations. I just looked at my mom.Her hair was a little grayer. She was sitting by my dad’s bed, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Her voice was hoarse, her gaze full of resentment. "Aria, that moonpetal grass… was it…"They knew I could never get something like that on my own. They were thinking of my "sugar daddy," Declan.I shook my head quickly. "It wasn't from him. We're over. For good."Seeing my family after so long, all the pain and

Declan’s POVDeclan was mingling at a gala when a sharp pain shot through his chest, like a hole had been ripped right through him.He and Aria didn't have a true mate bond, just a temporary mark. But right then, his gut told him something was wrong with Aria.He pulled out his phone and saw her message: [Declan, we're done.]Panic seized him. He quickly texted back: [Aria, where are you? Stop playing games!]Ten minutes passed. No reply.Declan had a sinking feeling that this time, Aria was serious. He couldn't sit still any longer. He made an excuse to leave the party and started calling her, over and over.Nothing.It was then that regret hit him. If he'd formed a true mate bond with her, he wouldn't be like this—completely cut off, with no way to track her. After the gala, Declan did something he never did. Instead of going home with Celeste, he drove straight to Aria's motel. He stormed upstairs and pounded on the door, but no one answered. The owner, fed up with the noise, threw

  • My Beta Boyfriend Was The Alpha   Chapter 5

Celeste met me at the Altar of the Moon Goddess. The sacred place where I once dreamed Declan and I would complete our mating ceremony was now the stage for my public humiliation.Below the altar stood the most influential members of the Northern Pack, their eyes on me like I was a criminal on trial.Celeste sat on the ornate throne reserved for the Luna. After I signed the NDA, I walked up the altar steps, through hundreds of contemptuous glares, and numbly recited the speech she had prepared for me."I, Aria, would like to formally apologize to Luna Celeste and Alpha Declan for the recent controversy I have caused in the Northern Pack...""Out of selfish desire, I fabricated a past and attempted to sabotage the sacred union between our Alpha and Luna... The Alpha and I are merely old acquaintances. We have never had an intimate relationship."With every sentence, the laughter and murmurs from the crowd grew louder. Finally, Celeste produced a glowing 'Heart of Moonlight' herb and tos
