“I want my own room.”

Leigh doesn’t even look up from his tablet as he buttons his pajamas. “It’s not happening.”

“Why?” I demand, crossing my arms over my chest. Just one night and one day with him, I am losing my fucking mind. I am definitely not sharing a bed with this asshole today again.

He finally glances over at me, his eyes narrowing to tiny slits as he studies my face. “Why don’t you tell me why you can’t share a room with me?”

Heat rushes straight to my face, my cheeks burning instantly.

Images from last night flash across my mind. I remember lying there completely frozen, his hand resting over my boob for what felt like hours. I remember the heat pooling low in my stomach, the way my nipple had hardened right against his palm, and the rush of sensations I had never felt before in my entire damn life.

God, I hated myself for it. I hated my body for reacting to the man who would literally plunge a blade into my gut three years from now.

I ended up rolling out of bed and sleeping on the freezing floor just to escape his touch.

Leigh scoffs when I stay silent, breaking the tension. “It’s not my fault you fell off the bed.”

“You literally kept rolling around the entire night!” I spit back, my voice rising.

“I woke up on my side of the bed,” he replies in a cold tone, completely unbothered.

“Whatever,” I snap, my hands curling into fists. “I want my room. I am not sleeping in here another night.”

“Yeah, well, the last thing I need is any of the maids reporting to my father that we aren’t sleeping in the same room when he specifically said we had to,” he says, stepping toward the door.

I scoff loudly. “Fuck your father, and fuck this arrangement! I’ll find a fucking hotel to sleep.”

Without waiting for his response, I turn on my heel and storm out of the room.

I hear his sharp intake of breath behind me, his quick footsteps following right after. “Stephanie, get back in here!”

Before I can make it halfway down the wide upstairs landing, a deafening crack of thunder shakes the entire mansion.

A split second later, the lights flicker once, twice—and die completely.

Pitch-black darkness swallows the corridor.

A cold sweat breaks out across the back of my neck.

My breath hitches in my throat, my pulse spiking so fast my ears start to ring. The darkness presses into me, suffocating. Suddenly, I’m not in the hallway anymore.

I’m back on that floor.

I can feel the phantom sting tearing through my stomach, the sticky warmth of blood soaking my clothes, the utter helplessness of dying while someone watches with pure indifference.

My knees instantly turn to water.

I gasp, my vision spinning as my legs give out from under me.

Before I hit the floor, a pair of strong hands grab me, his arms locking around my ribs to keep me upright.

“Stephanie? Breathe. Look at me,” Leigh’s voice cuts through the ringing in my ears, laced with something that sounds dangerously close to real concern.

The heat of his body comforts me for probably less than half of a second, my chest heaving as I fight for air. But just as quickly as he caught me, Leigh pulls back, returning to his usual asshole self.

A blinding flash of lightning tears through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the end of the hall, illuminating the foyer downstairs.

I blink through the blur of my panic, my gaze dropping toward the large family portrait hanging on the wall below.

My heart stops.

In my previous life, that painting only had Leigh and his parents.

Now, standing right beside Leigh in the frame, is another young man—someone with the same eyes and an arrogant smirk painted onto his lips.

A face I have never seen before in my entire life.

Or am I seeing double?

>•<•>•<•>•<

Well, I now know I wasn’t seeing double.

After that terrifying rainstorm last night and Leigh catching me in his arms, things became a blur. I am actually still not quite sure what happened after my knees gave out for the second time, but I woke up this morning sprawled across the bed alone. Leigh was nowhere to be found.

It is breakfast time now.

I stand at the bottom of the staircase, my neck craned as I stare up at the updated family portrait. There is Leigh, his older sister who ran away, his mother—that’s right, she wasn’t at the wedding which is strange—and a boy standing awkwardly to the side who looks just like Mr. Gilford. He’s just a younger version of the young Leigh. The newcomer’s face gnaws at my brain. Who the hell is he? Why was he never in the picture three years ago? Hell, why had I never seen him before when I firstly got married to Leigh before he killed me.

Why wasn’t his own mother at the freaking wedding? Her only son was getting married; albeit forced… but still.

“Admiring the artwork?” a smooth, deep voice asks from behind me. The voice is too nice and polite to be Leigh.

I jump a little, whipping around to see the exact man from the painting standing right in front of me. In person, he looks even more like Leigh, except his hair curls slightly and his smile carries an easy, effortless charm.

“I didn’t mean to startle you,” he says, offering me a warm, disarming smile. “I’m Damien. I couldn’t make it to the wedding ceremony yesterday, so I came by to bring you a proper gift before you travel for your honeymoon tonight.”

We get to Barbados sometime around three p.m.I am roused from my sleep by an annoyed looking Leigh who informs me we’ve landed. A car and two other escort cars are waiting for us outside the airport, and a man in a white shirt steps forward to collect our luggage as we approach. Leigh thanks him briefly before opening the back door for himself, leaving me to get in through the other side.I roll my eyes and climb in. The idiot could not even be bothered to be a gentleman for whatever press is here. The roads are busy, with cars passing in both directions and people walking along the pavements. I turn towards the window, watching the island pass by as we drive. There are small shops painted in bright colours, roadside stalls selling fresh fruits, and little restaurants with wooden tables arranged outside. A few people sit beneath umbrellas, eating and talking while others walk along the streets with shopping bags in their hands. The farther we get from the airport, the more the build

  • My Billionaire Husband Killed Me, I Came Back As His Enemy   008: Dear God, Give Me Patience, Or a Divorce.

People don’t typically go on honeymoons with their exes. Except for, well… my husband. I stare in shock as I step out of the car, only to see Bianca Laurent standing by the entrance of the private jet in the hangar. Leigh takes my hand in his, which surprises me until I realize that we are in public. She runs towards us in her six-inch heels so elegantly and throws her arms around Leigh, pushing me off to the side. I step away, smoothing my dress awkwardly as I watch the two of them. “Oh my goodness, Leigh, how are you doing?” she asks in a sickly sweet voice as she pulls back from him and brushes his hair with her fingers. “I think I’ve been okay. How are you?” he says, stepping back a bit while looking at her with eyes I know he will never look at me with. Something twists painfully in my chest. “Not good, I have missed you so much,” she says, almost rolling her eyes ever so slightly as she glanced at me and then turns back to Leigh. “What are you doing here?” Leigh asks

“Because if you wanted to, you could have opposed. But no, you are a fucking coward.”“You don’t know a thing about me,” he says coldly. “I know plenty,” I seethe. “That’s what you are. Too scared of daddy.”My words obviously strike a nerve. Leigh nods at me and turns around, stepping out of the bathroom.I let out a shaky breath, my fingers still trembling, and turn back towards the mirror, staring at myself.Maybe I could lose some weight and appear more… I don’t know. It’s stupid to even want to look like his girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend. I mean, I don’t like Leigh, so why should I be bothered?Fuck. Why do I have to care so much what people think? Why do I have to care so much about how I look?I hear two doors slam so hard that the mirror in front of me rattles.Sighing, I wipe my tears and step out of the bathroom and go up the stairs, feeling sick to my stomach. Two maids are dragging suitcases out of a room.I walk up to them briskly. “What are these for?”“Your honeymoon, m

  • My Billionaire Husband Killed Me, I Came Back As His Enemy   006: Jealousy or Control? Dear Husband, Which Is It?

When I step back out into the dining area, Damien is nowhere to be found, but Leigh is by the table, the muscles in his jaw grinding. I roll my eyes as I pull a chair forward in front of a set plate, picking up cutlery. For a second, I am uneasy. Is the food poisoned? Will this be when I die again? I shake my head and push back the thoughts. Leigh won’t kill me when he needs something from me. “You’re not eating?” Leigh finally asks after minutes of silence. All the hair on my body stands up immediately. That is highly suspicious. “Is there a reason you want me to eat?” “Is there a reason why I would not want you to eat?” He fires back, but in a sickeningly sweet tone. I narrow my eyes, wondering what his end goal is, until I sight a maid standing at the corner. Despite her uniform being a contrast to the wall colour, she blends in so well. I pick the fork up and take a few bites before dropping it. As I stand up to leave, my eyes catch sight of the neatly wrapped gift box Da

  • My Billionaire Husband Killed Me, I Came Back As His Enemy   005: Couples Are Supposed To Fight, Right?

Well, ouch. That stung, but I know it’s a lie. Leigh Gilford probably deserves an Emmy for how good he is at acting innocent.Right now, though, his attitude is the least of my problems. Someone leaked my private notes, and I have to find out who did it.But how? I literally have zero friends. And I mean… zero. I was always the weird nerdy girl in high school and college. No one genuinely liked me, they just liked how I could help them. They never got close enough to me to know what I was working on until it became a big deal in public. I reach out to grab the doorknob, but Leigh’s hand slams against it above my head, blocking my exit.“You’re not walking away from this,” he says in a dangerously low voice. “Did you tell Damien anything about the details of it? Something that wasn’t in the original files everyone in the company has access to? Answer me, Stephanie.”“I didn’t tell him shit!” I snap, whipping around to face him. “I met the guy literally five minutes ago when he was po

He gestures toward the dining table, where an elegantly wrapped box rests beside a plate.Ah yes, how can I have forgotten? We took a honeymoon four days after our wedding to Barbados and had to do a bunch of activities planned out for us, while we were stalked by paparazzi. We were the “it” couple that were a poster for body positivity and how it’s the heart that matters—if only I feel positive about my body for once. Before I can formulate a response, he walks beside me into the dining room, pulling out a chair with a low bow. “Please, have a seat, sister-in-law.”I blink, thrown off by how polite he is. I take the seat, watching as he picks up the silver teapot and gently pours tea into my cup.“Thank you,” I murmur, still trying to wrap my head around his sudden existence.Hurried footsteps echo from the dining archway and Leigh walks in, his dark gaze locking onto Damien. A scowl instantly takes over his face, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle ticks in his cheek.Without a word
