It was taking everything in me to not walk over to that bed and pull the incredibly stubborn woman into a hug. I wasn’t sure how helpful the hug would be, but seeing her crumpled up in pain like that made me feel things I didn’t want to, which was exactly why I had to make myself not look at her. I was tired of doing stupid things where she was concerned.

Her eyes practically burned a hole in my scalp as I interacted with Ava. She hadn’t ever seen me this chatty before, and if the way her gaze bounced between us was any indication, then she was more than a little jealous.

“Like I would ever say no to that.” Ava practically glowed with excitement, her smile stretching so wide I could see through to her soul if I looked hard enough.

I finally offered Alina a full glance this time, my gaze searching. “Do you want to join us for dinner?”
