“You look different,” Tati observed as I lowered myself into the seat across from hers. My eyes fastened on the tall glass dripping with condensation in front of her, and I raised a brow at her.

Both her palms came up in a gesture of surrender. “It’s just hot chocolate with some ice.”

“And who the hell gets hot chocolate with ice?” I asked, amused by the weirdness of her preferences already.

Tati looked like she was going to break down in tears any moment from now, her eyes suddenly becoming glassy in a way that wasn’t sponsored by alcohol.

I leaned forward with my elbows against the table, my lips stretching wide on a grin as it became apparent that my tough as nails best friend was being made into a sobber by hormones. Who would have thought?
