Feeling Liza’s presence behind him, Mike tensed. And when she rested her head on his back to wrap her arms around him, he was torn, between his desire for her and his secret.

“Mike, have I hurt you with my curiosity?” Liza asked in a small voice and even Mike heard the sadness in her words.

Liza’s anger, he could deal with, but her sadness? Mike was weak against it and he could never stand her unhappiness.

Turning in her arms to face her, Mike smiled and hugged her to his chest.

“No Liza, you did not hurt me. I’m just wondering how to explain my emotions to you. But really, it is simple.”
