Lillian's POV

My chair scraped loudly against the floor as I pushed to my feet. My hands were clammy, my heart thrudding like it wanted to break free from my chest.

“No,” I muttered. “This is…this is ridiculous. Whatever game you’re playing, I’m not doing this with you.”

Isabelle didn’t move. She didn’t flinch. Just calmly reached into her handbag and pulled out her phone.

“You really should sit down,” she said softly, but her tone had changed from less polite to more threatening. “I’m not done.”

“I don’t care.” I snapped.

She tapped the screen, turned on the phone, and held it up.

I didn’t want to look. God, I really didn’t.

But I did.

The screen showed a photo, Nathaniel with Isabelle, standing close, arms around each other in a way that didn’t just suggest history, but intimacy. The background looked like some European vineyard, the kind you only saw in magazines or in the lives of people who didn’t worry about rent.

Another photo: Nathaniel with his hand on her stomach, both of th

  • My Boss Will Stop At Nothing To Have Me    Chapter 34

Nathaniel's POVThe office was quiet, but my head was a mess.Papers lay untouched on my desk. Emails were piling up, blinking red with urgency. I had dismissed two meetings already, and my assistant… Lillian… hadn’t shown up.Again.And I hated how much that bothered me.I leaned back in my chair, staring out the window, wondering how the hell I had gotten here. Not just with her, but with Isabelle… with all of it.Lillian wasn’t supposed to happen. She was supposed to be just competent, efficient, easy to ignore. But, she burned too brightly for that. And maybe that’s why Isabelle hated her without ever needing to meet her.I slipped. I fell. And it was all my fault. And the truth was… Isabelle and I had been over long before Lillian came into the picture. What we had wasn’t love. It was power. Control. Appearance. An illusion. But Isabelle never let go of anything she felt entitled to.The relationship, the social circle, the fantasy of “Nathaniel and Isabelle” she clung to it like

Lillian's POVI didn’t ask for the days off… I informed them.Nathaniel didn’t like it, of course. He called twice. Sent a follow-up email that was more cold than concerned. Then a final message that simply said, “Fine. Take the time you need.”Translation: You’ve made your point, and I don’t like that you’re not explaining it.But I didn’t care. Not this time.Because right now, Diana needed me more than he did.She was still curled up on the couch when I arrived at her apartment, blanket over her shoulders, hair in a loose, defeated bun, and the remnants of a bottle of wine on the coffee table.I didn’t knock. I let myself in with the spare key I never returned, even though she had threatened to change the locks a dozen times. She looked up, eyes swollen and rimmed red. “You didn’t have to come.”“I know,” I said simply, setting down the groceries I had picked up on my way over. “But I did.”She tried to smile, but it cracked halfway through. “You should be working.”“I am working,”

  • My Boss Will Stop At Nothing To Have Me    Chapter 32

Lillian's POVBy the time I got home, the adrenaline had worn off and left a strange hollowness in my heart. My heels echoed against the tiled hallway as I stepped into my apartment, locking the door behind me with a sharp click that felt more like sealing myself in than keeping danger out.The silence was too loud. And my heart was racing too much.I tossed my purse onto the couch and pulled my phone from the pocket of my coat, intending to ignore everything… emails, missed calls, life in general. But then I saw the notifications.Twelve new messages. All from Isabelle. Don't ask why I saved her number. I simply wanted to know who my enemies are.My stomach knotted.Isabelle.The woman who had stormed into my life like a stormfront, all fire and ice and the ugly word fiancée hanging off her lips like poison.I stared at the screen for a moment before opening the notification. The first message was from hours ago, but each one since got progressively shorter. Angrier. Sharper.“You th

Lillian's POVThe music was low in the background, something sultry and jazzy, a perfect match for the dim, moody lighting of Diana’s club. She always said she didn’t trust places that didn’t have red velvet on at least one piece of furniture, and her personal lounge upstairs had enough of it to become a small theater.I held my glass, a strawberry mojito that was more strawberry than anything else. Diana, across from me in her signature leather pants and attitude, gave me the kind of look that made me want to either slap her or spill everything.I did the latter.“So…” I started, swirling the straw around my drink like it held the courage for me to talk. “You remember my boss, Nathaniel?”Diana raised an eyebrow like I had just asked her if she remembered breathing. “Tall, broody, impossible cheekbones, and you practically combust whenever he walks into a room? That Nathaniel?”I rolled my eyes. “You make it sound like I pant after him.”“You do pant, Lill. Silently. Like a polite Vi

Nathaniel's POVI didn’t wait. The second Luca left my office, I yanked my phone from the desk and dialed her number with clenched teeth.Isabelle answered on the second ring.“Well, well,” she drawled. “Let me guess, you’ve finally connected the dots?”My jaw tightened. “Don’t play games with me.”“Oh, I’m not. I’m simply impressed it took you this long. You’re usually quicker, Nathaniel.”“You met with Lillian.” I didn’t ask. I stated. She hummed softly, the sound smug and infuriating. “I did.”“What did you say to her?”“A few truths,” she replied smoothly. “Things I thought she deserved to know. Surely you wouldn’t fault me for being honest with the woman who thinks she has a place in your life.”My grip on the phone tightened to the point of pain.“I want to see you. Now,” I said through clenched teeth. “Same café. Thirty minutes.”“Aw. Can’t wait to see that vein in your forehead,” she said sweetly.I didn’t bother responding.I ended the call and slammed the phone down on the d

  • My Boss Will Stop At Nothing To Have Me    Chapter 29

Nathaniel's POVI stood there, staring at the space where Lillian had just been.A second ago, I was asking her out to dinner. Two hours ago, we were practically devouring each other in my office between stolen glances and breathless kisses. And now?Now she could barely look at me without her jaw tightening.I sat down heavily in my chair, confused as hell. What the actual…My phone buzzed. I ignored it.Instead, I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling, trying to replay everything in my head. Had I said something off? Missed a cue? No.Nothing stood out.She had been warm, receptive, a little fiery, sure… but she always had that bite. I liked that about her. I liked a lot about her.But that "no" she gave me?It wasn't just a "not tonight" kind of no. It was clipped. Final. Like she had already made up her mind and I was the last one to find out.I rubbed the back of my neck as my driver pulled up to the front of the building.By the time I slid into the back seat, my moo
