Chapter 8

Author: Comfortable Grace
After lunch, Ethan drove me into a small courtyard.

The summer in the mountains was much gentler than the scorching heat of the city, with the warm sun gently shining down on us.

However, my hands grew colder as the distance between us closed, my heartbeat quickened, and I became more nervous. I hadn’t seen Ms. Clayton in two years, and I was feeling somewhat shy about returning to familiar grounds.

In the courtyard, there was a grapevine trellis, and the sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting scattered spots of light on the table.

I knocked on the door and slowly walked in, standing next to her.

"You’re finally willing to come?"

As soon as she spoke, my eyes grew moist, almost in tears. I couldn’t bring myself to speak, afraid that the tears would fall onto the ceramic tiles and disturb her work.

She put down her carving tool, turned to look at me, said nothing, and stood up to

Hudson went to jail for more than ten days for illegally breaking into a private residence. We fully entrusted the matter to a lawyer, and as soon as he was out, the lawsuits kept him busy. Not only did he have to pay for the money he earned from streaming nude content for attention, but he also had to pay several thousand in compensation. Although it wasn't much, for someone like him who had no savings, was stingy, and treated money as everything, it was a substantial amount. After all the hustle and bustle, two months passed, but just less than half a month after paying the compensation, Hudson was arrested again. This time, it was for intentional harm related to Kelly.Kelly had broken up with him earlier because he was broke, but after I started dating Hudson, he had less need for money and began spending whatever extra he had on Kelly. The two of them became close again.Unfortunately, after failing to slander me, they directly broke into someone’s house and caused bodily inju

Kelly finally noticed the phone standing on my dining table, and with a shrill scream, she hid behind Hudson.A few seconds later, the police arrived and asked what had happened. I sat on the sofa and rolled up my pants and sleeves, showing them the bruises on my body. "They forced their way into my home and caused me personal injury. I also want to report that he violated my portrait rights and reputation rights, and took my work to let someone else plagiarize it." I pointed at Hudson, who was shielding Kelly behind him.I motioned to the computer, and Ethan helped me bring it over and handed it to me. Turning it on, I played the surveillance footage from the studio for the police.I handled most of the selection and decoration of the studio, and Hudson hadn’t cared at all. He only told me, "I trust you," and then left everything to me without contributing a dime or coming to supervise. After it was built, he didn’t even come by to create, never willing to spend time improving h

Hudson and Kelly stirred up the heat so much that this livestream reached over a million viewers. I didn’t even need to post a video as enthusiastic netizens had already edited the entire story with clarity. My comment section went from insults and curses to praise and support.Kelly's situation was the complete opposite of mine. Those who had once supported her and condemned me quickly turned on her upon learning the truth. The venom in the messages she received far surpassed what I had experienced. The next day, as I was having breakfast and chatting with my fans on a livestream, there was a sudden, rapid knocking on my door.I was puzzled and turned the camera to open the door. Just as I turned the doorknob, the door was forcefully kicked open from the outside, knocking me to the ground."How cunning can you be, Piper?" Hudson stood above me, glaring down with a furrowed brow, squinting his eyes as he interrogated me.Kelly stepped out from behind him, both hands gripping his

Before long, as if she heard something, she regained her composure."When I volunteered in a rural, impoverished area, I saw children persisting in their studies despite the harsh conditions. Then, an idea struck me, and I painted what I saw as a reflection of the children."She finished speaking, and I couldn't hold back my laughter. Kelly's eyes flashed with malice as she continued to slander me, "You can laugh at me, but you can't laugh at my work, Piper."I asked again, "Is your work entirely based on fictional depictions of reality?"She nodded, and I smiled as the little girl in the ceramic piece stepped into my mind. "My work is fictional, but the characters are based on real-life people."I watched her stand there speechless, looking stunned, and I delivered another blow. "Before you copy someone’s work one-to-one, at least be prepared with your words."The barrage of "plagiarist dog" comments in my livestream suddenly stopped. Kelly's livestream comments were all urging

"Two days from now, provide evidence that you are the original creator."The man standing before me, dressed in formal attire with a serious demeanor, fixed his gaze on me as he spoke these words.I widened my eyes in surprise—it was my senior, Ethan Young. Two years ago, after we graduated, we each chose different paths. He pursued a graduate degree, immersing himself in ceramics, apprenticing under a master to preserve this intangible cultural art. Now, he had risen to the position of head judge.Back when he learned I planned to leave behind ceramics to follow Hudson, Ethan had tried his utmost to persuade me to stay. Unfortunately, Hudson found out and warned him to stay away from me.After that, we lost contact. Meeting him again now filled me with shame though. After Ethan spoke, Hudson and Kelly froze for a brief moment before forcing themselves to act calm. They nodded stiffly, bowed to the judges and Ethan, then exchanged a glance. Hudson sneered and muttered, "Let the d
