Beth

“I know I’m about to die,” Rachel said quickly, raising both hands in mock surrender. “But just… remember I died happy.”

I didn’t say a word. Just arched one brow and sipped from the coffee she’d dared to bring as a peace offering.

She stood awkwardly in front of my desk, shifting from foot to foot like she couldn’t decide whether to laugh, run, or drop to her knees and beg. Honestly, I was surprised she hadn’t tried all three yet.

“Are you seriously gonna make me stand here all day?” she whined. “Come on, Beth. Say something. Yell. Scream. Throw a stapler at my face. But don’t just sit there with your judgy little silence and caffeine superiority.”

I set the cup down gently. “What happened to ‘I’ve got it handled’?”

Rachel groaned and plopped dramatically into the chair across from me.

BethI didn’t even realize I was doing it.One hand fluttered a piece of paper in front of my flushed face, like some old-timey southern belle trying not to swoon on a front porch swing. The other gripped my phone as I replayed the TikTok reel we’d just shot.Stacy’s slow turn to the camera. The perfectly timed smirk. That damn lab coat moving like it had no right to move.Yeah. It was too hot in here.“Is it warm in here to you?” he asked from across the room, brow raised. My heart stuttered. “Something like that,” I mumbled without thinking. And then wanted to hurl myself directly into the recycling bin. Before either of us could follow that up with something truly regrettable—or delightful—my phone buzzed.Tommy.Oh, thank God.And also… not thank God.I slid my thumb across the screen and tried to erase every trace of the look I knew I’d been wearing seconds earlier. My smile shifted into something tighter, thinner. One of those “I’m fine, everything’s fine” grimaces you give when

BethI pulled my phone from my bag and opened the Notes app, scrolling through the list of TikTok ideas I’d jotted down after my third glass of wine last night. Half of them probably wouldn’t make sense sober, but the other half? Gold. I tucked my legs under me on the office couch and reached for my ring light.Adam plopped into the chair across from me with a smug grin. “So, I was just telling Dr. Cole about what he missed last night at the club…”I looked up, eyes narrowed in mock disapproval. “Why would you go and do a thing like that? He chose to skip out. No one made him stay home. So why should he get to be filled in on all our fun?”Adam smirked. “Because the FOMO was real the second I mentioned the words ‘rabbit mask.’”I started to respond, but the deep timbre of Stacy’s voice cut clean through the room.“Don’t you have patients to see?”Adam blinked. “Wow. You’re right. That does sound like my cue to leave.”He stood, brushing imaginary lint from his sleeve like he hadn’t ju

StacyI was halfway through my second coffee and halfway through pretending I gave a damn about the clinic’s onboarding survey system when Adam strolled in, smug and smugger.“Yo,” he said, plopping into the chair across from my desk like it was his own. “We went out last night.”I didn’t look up. “And?”“To this place called Masquerade.” He whistled low. “Beth looked fine as hell. You should’ve seen her. Lace. Legs. Confidence through the roof.”I stilled. Then turned my gaze up slowly, deliberately. “Masquerade, huh?”“Yeah, she said she’s been before.” He grinned. “Some rabbit-masked guy danced with her all night. Pretty sure she soaked through her panties at least once.”I set my mug down.Loudly.“That rabbit?” I said quietly. “Was me.”

BethWe didn’t wait in line. We never did.Rachel knew the bouncer and with one wink and a smirk, we breezed past a sea of glitter, leather, and barely-there outfits into the pounding bass and dim-lit chaos of Masquerade. The air inside was humid and electric. Music throbbed low and dark like a heartbeat. Bodies already swayed and pulsed on the dance floor, hidden faces turned toward the DJ booth like worshippers at some masked altar.Rachel grabbed my hand and Adam’s sleeve. “Bar first.”I didn’t argue. The club’s signature scent—smoke, spice, and sex—clung to the back of my throat as we pushed through the crowd. Everywhere I looked was a flash of bare skin, a glint of rhinestones, a painted-on smile over a velvet mask.“Three tequila shots,” Rachel shouted to the bartender, already flagging him down with the ease of a regular. “

BethThe shoot wrapped just after six, and we all gathered in the break room like it was a wrap party for a low-budget indie film. Adam was already stealing snacks from the front desk drawer, Rachel was setting up a group selfie, and Stacy had retreated to his office—probably to process whatever the hell had just happened between us.Because… yeah. That whisper in my ear?Still echoing. And I still didn’t know if I wanted to run from it—or run straight into it.Rachel nudged me with her elbow as I wiped down the camera lenses. “Hey. Let’s go to Masquerade tonight.”I blinked. “What?”“You heard me. Club night. Girls, guys, masks, secrets. Let’s gooo.”Adam looked up from the candy jar. “What’s Masquerade?”Rachel grinned wickedly. “Only the hottest underground club in the city. Masked entry only. Total anonymity. You can dance with a stranger and never know their name.”He raised a brow. “That sounds dangerous.”“Deliciously dangerous,” she corrected. “Beth got real frisky with a guy

BethThe elevator dinged and I stepped out onto the top floor of Dr. Cole’s clinic, tablet under one arm, coffee in my hand. The hallway smelled like cedar and vanilla—his office always did. Classy, clean, masculine.I wasn’t expecting to see anyone else up here, but as I turned the corner, a tall figure in heels stormed out of his office.Madison.Her walk was fast and rigid, and her expression—when she spotted me—was full venom.I offered a polite smile anyway. “Hey… nice to see you again.”She didn’t stop. Didn’t smile. Didn’t even try.Just muttered something under her breath as she brushed past me.It sounded an awful lot like: “Little bitch.”I blinked, twisting around, but she was already gone—heels clicking fast across the hardwood, disappearing toward the elevator without a backward glance.Okay… what the hell?I turned back toward Stacy’s door and knocked once before letting myself in.He was standing by the window with his back to me, hands shoved into his pockets, tension
