Chapter 1

Aurelia's POV

My boyfriend, Shane Wesley, fed my best friend, Lynn Barrett, apple slices, completely failing to notice anything unusual about my behavior.

Then, the amnesiac Lynn started acting up. "Honey, let's go home. It's so scary having this stranger watching me every day."

With that, she threw herself into Shane's arms.

Shane froze for a brief moment before finally pushing her away. But he neither corrected Lynn nor explained who I was. He merely whispered, "Okay, I'll take you home."

Once he had packed up Lynn's belongings, he led me out of the hospital room. As always, he tried to soothe me. "Aurelia, don't get the wrong idea. Lynn only remembers me. That's why she thinks I'm her husband."

However, I simply gave him a bitter smile. "I'm not getting the wrong idea. Didn't you two kiss yesterday? It's only natural for her to think you're her husband."

Shane's expression shifted, and the shock in his eyes quickly turned to panic. "Aurelia, don't make baseless accusations. You must be too tired. Your eyes must have been playing tricks on you."

But that scene had replayed in my mind hundreds of times. It couldn't have been more real. Every time I thought about it, I felt so sick that I wanted to throw up.

But Shane refused to admit it. I didn't want to question him either. I simply said calmly, "Shane, we're over."

The hand that had been brushing my hair suddenly stopped, and his eyes were filled with disbelief. He asked, "You're dumping me? After seven years together, are you really going to give up on us?"

I opened my mouth to speak, but Shane coldly interrupted me, "Enough, Aurelia. I know I've been neglecting you, and you must be jealous. But Lynn isn't just your best friend. She's the one who saved your life. Don't be so petty."

He was right. Lynn had lost her memory trying to save me. But I had never been jealous of her. What I cared about was the way Shane treated us so differently.

Back then, after my emergency appendectomy, I could barely even turn over in bed. Yet, he had said, "Aurelia, I'm busy with work. Just hire a caregiver. It'll be the same."

But whenever Lynn made a fuss, Shane would just quit work to stay by her side. However, he had never thought about how difficult it was for me to pay for her medical bills all by myself. He certainly never thought about how exhausted I was from working three jobs from morning to night.

I stared at the familiar face before me, but somehow, he felt more and more like a stranger.

He even had the audacity to say, "Don't threaten to break up again. I might actually agree next time." He patted my head. "Come on. Take care of Lynn's discharge paperwork. Once you're done, we'll go home together."

But once we got home, Lynn started acting up again. She pointed at the photo of Shane and me together in the living room and tearfully complained, "Honey, how could you be so close to this stranger? You even let her into our home!"

Their home?

Shane and I had lived here for three years. Yet, Lynn had been here for less than three months, and she was already treating this place as her own home.

I was at a loss for words. But then, I saw Shane wipe away her tears and gently reassure her, "Lynn, calm down. You'll get another headache."

"So who is she?" Lynn snorted coldly.

I also wanted to know who I was to Shane.

However, I heard him say, "She's the housekeeper I hired. She has a crush on me, so she's always creating fake pictures of us together and putting them up around the house."

A housekeeper? I wanted to laugh, but my heart ached with every beat.

Aurelia's POVShane's face contorted in pain, but he still tried to threaten Jonah, the man who had subdued him. "Do you know what I am? How dare you do this to me! Believe me, I can get you fired from your company."The usually gentle Jonah suddenly turned icy. "If you have the power to do that, go ahead. But never harass Aurelia again. Or else, I won't let you off."Shane was the son of Jinton's richest man. Jonah must have spoken so boldly because he didn't know that. I was worried that Shane would retaliate against Jonah, so I quickly grabbed the latter and pulled him away. But on the way, he squeezed my hand. "Aurelia, you don't have to worry about me. He can't do anything to me.""But you don't know who he—"But before I could finish speaking, Jonah blurted, "I know who he is. That's why I'm even less afraid of him. His father is practically begging to work with me. He's nothing."His words stunned me. He explained, "I've developed a new drug, and many major pharmaceutical

I was surprised that someone as impressive as he was needed a blind date.I couldn't help but ask, "Jonah, are you sure you're at the right table?"He smiled gently and said, "No, I came here especially to meet you."With that, he let me order whatever I wanted, and we talked while we ate.But for the most part, I was the one asking him questions. I asked about his hobbies and interests, his work, and his plans for the future. To my surprise, I discovered that we had a lot in common. We both loved animals, and we even liked the same movie. We had even visited the same places and taken photos at the same spots. We had simply been there at different times, crossing paths in the same places without ever meeting.Jonah was also a doctor. Aurelia's POVI quickly held Mom back. "Alright, Mom. Calm down. You might faint again."Shane turned around and saw her in a hospital gown. When he remembered what I had told him, his eyes turned red. "Aurelia, so you really weren't lying to me. I just never believed you, not even once."He hadn't believed me when I said Lynn was faking her amnesia. He also hadn't believed me when I told him Mom was sick and urgently needed money for her treatment. But now, he regretted everything. Not only did he transfer that 200 thousand dollars to me, but he also handed me a black bank card. "Aurelia, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have taken it upon myself to test you. I definitely shouldn't have hidden my identity from you. Use this card however you want. The PIN is your birthday. Let this be my way of making it up to you."I accepted it. After all, I had earned it. I had given up seven years of my youth. Every moment was precious. "Alright. You've made it up to me. You should go now."

I could no longer hold back my tears and threw myself into her arms.Mom patted my back and comforted me, "There, there. A grown woman like you shouldn't cry. I just got dizzy and fell. It's nothing serious."But one of her neighbors, Hayley Leston, couldn't help but chide her, "Tara, don't take this lightly. You've had a stroke. One fall like that, and you might not be able to get back up. Besides, you need someone around to take care of you. I can't come over to your place all the time."I wiped away my tears. "Mom, I'll take care of you."Mom smiled. "Don't you still have a job in Jinton? How are you going to take care of me? Besides, it's just a minor injury. You didn't have to come all the way back here."Just like when I was a child, I hugged Mom

She even slipped her arm around his and said, "Shane, look at how perfect we are together!"Yet, as he gazed at that wedding photo, he found it strangely irritating. The woman beside him should have been Aurelia, not Lynn. He then remembered how many times Aurelia had pleaded with him in the past."Shane, even if we can't get married yet, we can still take wedding photos! I just want to know what it feels like to wear a wedding dress."But Shane had turned her down time and time again. "Aurelia, wedding photos cost money. We're struggling to make ends meet in Jinton.
