Chapter 2

Wendy’s face was deeply flushed, and her clothes were drenched with sweat. Besides, she was breathing rapidly and looking miserable. I enjoyed the sight.

I covered my mouth and smiled before I asked, “Wendy? Why are you so concerned about me today? I suddenly felt like training. It’s so fun running in this hot summer.”

Wendy grew quite mad. She had purposely gone to a construction site to deliver water to the workers there. She even hired an assistant to take photos of her as a record.

In the beginning, she felt quite comfortable. She basked in the hot sun and walked around for several hours. She felt no discomfort.

On the contrary, she felt quite cool and refreshed as if she were walking in an air-conditioned room.

When she was rejoicing in the marvelous effects of the senses-switching system, everything immediately changed.

That refreshing coolness vanished completely, replaced by the suffocating heat of running in a sauna.

I watched the shifty look in Wendy’s eyes. Suddenly, I was no longer in the mood to tease her.

I went straight to the point. “Wendy, give up on your wicked ways. If not, you’ll wish that you were dead!”

Wendy’s face changed drastically. After that, she hung up on me.

When I tried to call her back, I was surprised to find that she had blocked my number.

Soon, the hotness that gripped me was gone. It seemed like Wendy had entered an air-conditioned room.

I also stopped running and returned home.

Max instantly approached me with a glass of iced water. He said dotingly, “Dear, have some water. You have to stop torturing yourself like this.”

I frowned and refused. But in the next second, I felt a blow to the back of my neck, which knocked me out.

When I woke up, I found myself in a summer resort located at an altitude of over three thousand feet. Max had brought me here.

The place was cold all year round, with the temperature never exceeding 77 °F.

My heart sank.

In the next second, Max opened the door and grinned at me. “Dear, come with me. Everyone’s waiting for you.” Then, he dragged me out of the room.

Surprisingly, there was a pool party outside. The guests were all friends from Max’s circle.

I did not have much contact with them, but I always felt some degree of hostility from them.

“Rachel, thanks for your hospitality! We’ve never been to such an expensive resort!” exclaimed a grinning man.

Although he was smiling, his gaze filled me with uneasiness.

I looked at Max and asked, “What do you mean by this?”

As an ordinary worker, he could only spend money using the supplementary card that I had given him.

Max held my hand and said gently, “Dear, you can’t stand the heat. So, this is a surprise for you.”

After that, he jumped into the pool and pulled me into the water with him.

Anger got the better of me as I slapped him. It seemed like he would do anything for his sister.

All I felt was hot and dizzy. Presumably, Wendy had started acting like the kindest person and delivering water under the hot sun.

During my previous life, she did the same thing and became famous on the internet by acting like no one else was as kind as her.

On the other hand, the heat killed me as I died in an air-conditioned room.

When Max could no longer control me, he tried to trap me in a summer resort!

“Get lost!” I pushed him away and tried to get out of the pool.

But he pressed me down with force and pinned me in the cold water.

His gentle facade had finally vanished. He sneered. He was rough and violent with me.

“Rachel, don’t say I didn’t warn you for insisting on going against Wendy!”
