Chapter 3: Tension at the Table

CASSANDRA

Brady’s voice boomed through the front door like he owned the place. “Mr. Gray, good to see you, sir. It smells amazing in here. Is that your famous pasta?”

I shifted in my chair, still feeling the slick mess between my thighs from what Alexander just did to me upstairs. My panties were ruined, and every little movement reminded me of his cum leaking out a bit. I crossed my legs tightly and tried to look normal.

Alexander sat across from me, that smug look on his face like he knew exactly how uncomfortable I was. He picked up his fork and twirled some pasta. “Brady’s here early. Cool.”

Mom clapped her hands. “Oh, perfect timing. Set another plate, honey. Brady, come join us.”

Brady walked in, all tall and confident with his messy blonde hair and those bright blue eyes that always lit up when he saw me. He wore a simple hoodie and jeans, looking like the typical campus guy who could charm anyone.

“Hey everyone. Sorry to crash dinner but Alex texted me earlier and I figured why not bring some cold ones.” He held up a six-pack, then his gaze landed on me. “Cassandra. Damn, you look good. That drive from campus treat you right?”

I forced a smile, my cheeks still warm from the hallway. “Hey Brady. Yeah, it was okay. Alexander drove most of the way so I just relaxed.”

Brady pulled out the chair right next to me. Of course he did. “Mind if I sit here? Been wanting to catch up with you. You dodged my last text about coffee.”

Alexander’s foot nudged mine under the table hard. I glanced at him. His jaw was tight but he kept eating like nothing was wrong.

“Sure, sit,” I said, scooting my chair a little. Brady’s arm brushed mine as he sat down. He smelled like fresh cologne and beer. Nice, but nothing like Alexander’s scent still stuck on my skin.

Dad passed the salad bowl. “So Brady, you boys ready for the new semester? Riverside’s got that big game coming up.”

Brady laughed and loaded his plate. “Hell yeah. Alex here is gonna kill it on the court like always. Cassandra, you should come watch us play. I’ll save you a seat right behind the bench.”

“That sounds fun,” I said, keeping my voice light.

Under the table, Alexander’s foot slid up my calf slowly. I nearly dropped my fork. “But I’ve got a lot of classes this term. Business stuff, you know.”

Alexander spoke up, his tone casual but his eyes locked on me. “She’ll come. Right, sis? We can all hang out after. Brady’s been talking about you nonstop lately.”

Brady grinned at me, completely oblivious. “Guilty. What’s not to like? Smart, funny, and you actually get my jokes unlike some people.” He bumped my shoulder playfully. “Remember that party last month? You killed it on the dance floor.”

I laughed a little, but Alexander’s foot moved higher, pushing my dress up under the table. His toes traced my knee. “Yeah, that party was wild. But I mostly just watched.”

Brady leaned closer to me. “You should dance more, with me next time. I give good spins.”

Mom beamed from her end of the table. “You young people and your parties. Just be safe. And Cassandra, it’s nice you’re making friends like Brady here.”

I nodded, but my mind was upstairs in that hallway. Alexander’s fingers inside me. Him thrusting while his dad was feet away. Now here we were, acting normal while his cum was still inside me and Brady flirted like he had a chance.

“Pass the bread?” Alexander asked, but when I reached for it, his hand grabbed mine under the table. He squeezed, then let go slowly, like a secret promise.

Brady kept talking. “So Cassandra, tell me more about your major. You thinking marketing? We could study together sometime. My place is quiet.”

Alexander coughed. “She studies with me mostly. Step-sibling perks.”

I shot Alexander a look. “Actually Brady, that might be nice. But my schedule is packed.”

Brady’s face lit up anyway. “No rush. Just putting it out there. You’re different from other girls on campus. Real, you know?”

His compliment hit nice, but it felt wrong with Alexander right there, his foot now pressing between my thighs under the tablecloth. I pressed my legs together, trapping his foot, but that only made it worse.

Heat built again.

“Brady, you’re sweet,” I said, taking a sip of water to cool down. “But really, with family stuff and classes…”

Alexander’s toes wiggled against my panties. I bit my lip hard. “Yeah, Brady. She’s got family right here to keep her busy.”

Dad laughed. “These two have been getting along great since we all moved in together. Remember that first day, kids? Boxes everywhere, you two hit it off instantly.”

I nearly choked.

Brady raised an eyebrow. “First day? Spill. I need the sibling stories.”

Alexander smirked. “Nothing much. Just helped her unpack. Cassandra had this tank top on, all sweaty from moving. Looked cute as hell.”

“Alexander,” I warned, but my voice came out breathy because his foot was rubbing me right there under the table. Right where I was still sensitive.

Brady chuckled. “Lucky you, Alex. Living with a girl like her. If she wasn’t your stepsister, I’d be jealous as fuck.”

The table went quiet for a beat. Mom smiled awkwardly. “Well, they are family now. That’s what matters.”

But under the table, Alexander didn’t stop. He pressed harder, making slow circles. I gripped the edge of the table, trying not to moan. My thighs trembled.

“You okay, Cassandra?” Brady asked, turning to me with concern. His hand touched my arm. “You look flushed.”

“I’m fine,” I said quickly. Too quickly. “Just the pasta is spicy.”

Alexander pulled his foot back finally, but his eyes burned into me. “Yeah, real spicy tonight.”

We kept eating, conversation flowing about classes and the university. Brady told funny stories about his roommate, making everyone laugh. But every time he looked at me too long, Alexander would find a way to touch me under the table. A brush of fingers when passing salt. His knee against mine.

After dessert, Mom and Dad cleared plates. “You kids hang out. We’ll do dishes.”

Brady stood up. “Mind if I steal Cassandra for a quick walk? It’s a nice night.”

Alexander stood too, fast. “Actually, we were gonna watch a movie upstairs. Family thing.”

Brady looked between us. “Come on man, don’t hog her. Cassandra, what do you say? Just around the block.”

I hesitated, feeling Alexander’s stare. “Maybe another time, Brady. Rain check?”

Brady nodded but looked disappointed. “Sure. Text me later?”

He said his goodbyes and headed out. The door closed behind him.

Alexander grabbed my hand the second our parents went to the kitchen. “Upstairs. Now.”

“Alexander, wait,” I whispered, but let him pull me toward the stairs. My heart raced again. “That was too close at dinner. Your foot… I almost…”

“Almost came at the table?” he finished, voice low and rough as we reached the top. He pushed me into my room and locked the door. “You loved it. Admit it while I fuck you properly this time.”

He kissed me hard, hands already pulling my dress up. I kissed him back, obsessed with how wrong and right it felt.

But then my phone buzzed on the bed. A text from Brady.

“Hey, forgot to ask. Want to grab breakfast tomorrow before we head back to campus? Just us.”

Alexander saw it over my shoulder. His body tensed against mine.

“Tell him no,” he said, fingers sliding into my panties again. “Or I’ll make sure you scream loud enough that the whole house hears.”

I looked at him, torn between the heat in his eyes and the new message lighting up my screen.

What the hell was I supposed to say?

  • My Brother, My Ruin   WHAT BECAME OF US

Chapter 143: What We KeepCassandraWe sat with Mom’s message for a long time after the phone went dark. The offer was simple. Money for a bus. Money for a short rental somewhere else. Distance from the relatives who kept testing the door. No lectures. No demands to come home. Just an exit.Alexander leaned forward on the edge of the mattress, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor. I stayed beside him with my hands resting over the small curve of my stomach. Thirteen weeks. The baby was the size of a lemon now. Real enough to change every decision we made.“I don’t want to take her money,” I said finally. “Not because I’m proud. Because every time we let them in, even sideways, they start thinking they still have a vote.”“I know.” He rubbed a hand over his face. “But Carol already warned us. The store is starting to feel the rumors. The family isn’t getting bored. If we stay, we stay knowing the pressure continues. If we leave, we leave on our terms with a plan, not because they

Chapter 142: The Wider CircleCassandraThe message stayed on the phone overnight like a stone we couldn’t put down.“The family isn’t the only ones who know where you live now. Some people are tired of watching this play out quietly. You should decide how public you want the next part to be.”Alexander and I read it again in the morning light. No name. No demand for money. Just the clear implication that the audience for our life had grown.“We treat it the same as the rest,” he said while I ate crackers on the edge of the mattress. “No reply. Document it. Tell Carol. Keep the door locked. If something actually happens, we call the police. We don’t chase ghosts.”I nodded. The baby was twelve weeks. The nausea had eased a little, but the fatigue and the constant low-level awareness of being watched had not. We were still on track for rent. The clinic fund was intact. The ordinary pieces of survival were holding. The noise around them kept trying to grow.At the store Jess took one lo

Chapter 141: The Line They CrossedCassandraCarol’s text sat between us like a warning flare. They had come to the house. They now knew the exact door.Alexander locked the phone, set it face-down, and pulled the chain across the door even though it was already locked. We didn’t talk much after that. There was nothing useful to say. The family had decided that cutting us off was not enough. They wanted the last word in person.Morning came with the same nausea and a sharper edge of dread. Alexander left for the warehouse later than usual so we could walk out together. The street was clear. No unfamiliar cars. No relatives waiting. The ordinary quiet felt temporary. At the store Jess took one look at my face and said, “You’re doing the ‘someone is about to ruin my day’ walk. Who do I need to scare?”“Possibly my aunt and uncle again. They found the house last night.”Jess’s expression flattened. “They show up here, I call the cops and then I key their car. I’m not joking.”“I know you

Chapter 140: BoundariesCassandraMom’s visit left the room feeling exposed for the rest of the night. Alexander double-checked the lock and the chain. We kept the phone on the floor between us, volume low but not off. Sleep came in short stretches. Every time a car slowed on the street I woke up. He did too.In the morning he sat on the edge of the mattress tying his shoes while I ate crackers and tried to settle my stomach.“If anyone from the family shows up, we don’t open the door,” he said. “We tell Carol. If they push it, we call the police. This is our place. They don’t get to turn it into another family meeting.”“Agreed.”He kissed me, rested his hand on my stomach for a second the way he always did now, and left for the warehouse. I walked to the store with my shoulders tight and the phone in my back pocket on silent.Jess took one look at me and raised an eyebrow. “You look like you slept inside a washing machine. Family noise again?”“Something like that.”“Want me to star

Chapter 139: Noise Travels Cassandra The text sat on the phone like a hand on the back of my neck. “Heard the pregnancy rumor reached the grocery store. Shame. Family’s talking more than you think. Some of them are less content to stay quiet than others. Watch your back.” Alexander and I read it twice in the dark. Then he turned the phone completely off and set it on the floor face-down. “We’re not answering,” he said. “We’re not chasing it. Same rule as the old threats. Silence first.” I nodded against his chest, but sleep did not come after that. Every creak of the house made me tense. The baby was only the size of a raspberry according to the last pamphlet, and yet the idea of it was already large enough to draw blood from people who had already decided we were a scandal. Morning arrived too early. The nausea was sharper than usual, probably from the stress. I ate crackers in bed while Alexander dressed for the warehouse. He kissed the top of my head and reminded me to keep

Chapter 138: The Weight of Ordinary Days Cassandra The crib stayed in pieces against the wall because there was nowhere else to put it. Every time I looked at it I felt the future press a little harder against the present. Ten weeks. The nurse had said the nausea might start easing soon. So far it had only changed shape—less sharp in the mornings, more like a constant low tide that rose whenever I got too hungry or too tired. Alexander left for the warehouse before it was fully light. I walked to the store with the ginger chews Jess had forced on me and the prenatal vitamin already taken. The air was cooler. My jeans bit at the waist in a way that meant I would need to do something about clothes soon. Another expense we hadn’t fully written into the notebook yet. Jess was already at express, restocking gum with unnecessary aggression. She glanced up as I clocked in. “You look like someone who slept. Miracles happen. Earl left you a banana that is only morally compromised, not ful
