Ryan's voice was languid and lazy. Though the timbre sounded different, it was equally alluring and sexy.

"I do not want you to see my face. It is for my own good."

Emily could not help but wonder, "What is good for me?"

Ryan: "I am afraid you will be too ashamed to face me if you see who I am."

Emily was completely confused.

Why would she be ashamed? She had not lied to him.

She was even more curious about his appearance now.

"What?! The lead actress?!"Victoria shot up from her chair like someone had stepped on a bad toe."Emily auditioned for the fifth lead. How did she end up in the running for the lead? That makes no sense. Sister Brooke, you must have it wrong."Brooke: "Between making money and finding a partner, you picked the wrong path, Victoria. You are the one who is wrong."Victoria looked like she had been struck by lightning. She could barely breathe."You just said Director Grayson sent her the contract for the fifth lead. How does a fifth lead end up in the second round for the lead role?"Brooke: "It is not complicated. Emily auditioned for both."Victoria: "How is that possible?!"Brooke: "Rules are rules, but people are flexible. When you auditioned for the fourth lead, you could have asked to try for the lead. Why didn't you?"Victoria had nothing to say. Because she didn't dare. Because she lacked confidence. Because she lacked the ability to carry a leading role. She felt that getting

Emily stared at Ryan, her face burning with equal parts shame and fury. "Did you change my clothes?"Ryan met her gaze, his eyes dark and impossible to read. "You used to love it when I helped you bathe and dress."Her teeth caught her bottom lip. Her lashes swept down. "Ryan, we...""Don't." The word came out sharp. "Don't say it. I don't want to hear it."He walked out, hands buried in his pockets, spine rigid as a steel beam.Something heavy settled in his chest. Something that felt a lot like grief.Emily lifted her head and spotted the dress waiting for her in the open wardrobe. A new Chanel piece.A square-necked black dress. Classic tweed woven with delicate lace trim. Strong and soft at once. Nothing somber about it. The kind of dress that moved like water when you walked. Her favorite style. He had left the wardrobe door open on purpose so she would see it.Emily stood frozen for a long moment before she pulled herself together.---After washing up, she came downstairs in th

"At this hour? Eleven at night? Taking care of his sister?"A cold dread crawled down James's spine. Alarm bells screamed in his head. "Ryan. Are you even speaking human language?"Ryan's voice was slow, deliberate, each word placed with care. "Your sister told me she was going to the library to study. Instead, she ended up drinking at a bar. She got drunk and wanted to go home with the bar's top host. So I brought her to my place. James, do you think I did the right thing?"Ryan's words were an art form. Every sentence sounded truthful, reasonable, perfectly innocent. But underneath, they were full of traps. And crucially, they were flawless.Who would ever guess that the bar's top host and Ryan Bennett were the same person? In James's mind, Ryan was the hero who had saved his sister from a lecherous man. What could James say? He simply said, "You did the right thing. Thank you, brother."Ryan's arm tightened around Emily's waist. "No need to thank me. Your sister is family too."In

The alcohol had turned her bones to liquid. She melted against him, her glassy eyes sparkling with curiosity."Strange," she murmured. "You smell like my ex-boyfriend. And your voice sounds like his too."Her fingers reached for the fox mask.Ryan leaned back, his pale throat forming a long, elegant curve as he dodged her hand.Emily pouted. "Why won't you let me see?""If you want to see, I'll let you."His palm settled on her back, his index finger tapping a slow rhythm against her skin."But you have to come home with me first."Her brows knitted. "Why do I have to go to your house to see your face?"Ryan's voice dropped low, teasing. "I'm the top host here. I have a reputation to maintain. I don't show my face to just anyone."Emily drew out a long "Oh." Then she nodded wisely. "That explains the mask."He leaned closer, his breath warm against her ear. "Little sister, how about coming home with me? Just home. I won't do anything to you."Her frown deepened. "But my brother said I

"A woman grabbed your ass?"Ryan peeled the clingy head off his shoulder and pushed it away."And you're telling me this because...?"Grayson's face crumpled. "Because I need sympathy, not sarcasm. Every woman in this place has been manhandling me tonight."Ryan raised an eyebrow. "Was she ugly?""No. Actually, she was gorgeous."The temperature dropped. "So you're bragging.""I'm not bragging! I'm suffering!"Grayson trailed after him, the story spilling out in one breathless rush. "I saw this girl. Pretty face. Nice moves on the dance floor. So I walked over to introduce myself. The second I got behind her, she whipped around and screamed that I grabbed her ass. The worst part? I was the only man standing there. What are the odds?"He wasn't done. "If I'd actually done it, fine. I'd wear that badge with pride. At least I'd have gotten something out of the accusation. But I didn't do anything, and I still got called a pervert."His voice cracked. "Then she pinched me. In front of the

I cannot count them all."Ryan licked his back teeth with his tongue, each word escaping from between his teeth."Too many... too many to count."Emily: "Mmm."Ryan pinched her chin with his fingers, lifting her head to look at him, and asked, "What kind of man do you like?"Too cl
