Chapter 103

The Shadow of Kael

Kael stared at the figure behind Lucian.

His own face.

His own eyes.

His own scar.

But the expression was different.

Cold.

Empty.

Ancient.

Lyra moved closer to Lucian.

“Kael…”

“I see him.”

The shadow smiled.

“Hello, brother.”

Kael's blood ran cold.

“Brother?”

The shadow stepped forward.

“I was born from the part of you that you rejected.”

Kael raised the Key of Eternity.

“I never had a brother.”

“You did.”

The shadow touched Lucian's shoulder.

“You simply forgot me.”

Lyra's golden eyes flashed.

“Get away from my son.”

The shadow looked at her.

“Still protecting him.”

“Always.”

The shadow smiled.

“Just like the first time.”

Lyra froze.

“What do you mean?”

“You remember the first choice.”

Kael stepped forward.

“Don't use that name.”

The shadow laughed.

“Why?”

“Because I know what it means.”

“No.”

The shadow's eyes darkened.

“You remember what they allowed you to remember.”

Kael tightened his grip on the Key.

“What are you?”

The shadow looked at him.

“I am what you became when you died.”

Silence.

Kael's face changed.

Lyra looked at him.

“Kael…”

The shadow continued.

“Every time you died, something remained.”

“A memory.”

“A thought.”

“A fragment.”

“And eventually…”

It pointed toward itself.

“I became whole.”

Kael shook his head.

“You're lying.”

“Am I?”

The shadow raised its hand.

The world changed.

Kael saw himself dying.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Different worlds.

Different battles.

Different endings.

But every time—

Lyra was there.

Every time—

Kael reached for her.

Every time—

he died.

Then Kael saw something he had never seen before.

After one of his deaths, a black shadow crawled out of his body.

It looked at Lyra.

Then disappeared.

Another death.

Another shadow.

Another fragment.

Another world.

Until the fragments became one.

Kael stared in horror.

“You…”

The shadow nodded.

“I was born from every death you suffered.”

Lyra stepped closer.

“Then why do you want Lucian?”

The shadow looked at the boy.

“Because he is the only one who can make me complete.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“You'll never have him.”

The shadow smiled.

“You don't understand.”

“What?”

“I don't need to take him.”

It touched Lucian's chest.

“He already carries me.”

Lucian suddenly screamed.

Black light exploded from his body.

Lyra caught him.

“Lucian!”

Kael reached for them.

The shadow stepped backward.

“His blood is the bridge.”

Lyra looked at Nysera.

“You said he carried your blood.”

Nysera nodded.

“And yours.”

Lyra's expression changed.

“My blood?”

“The Moon Wolf's blood.”

Kael stared at Lucian.

“So he's carrying all three.”

Nysera answered:

“The First Father's creation.”

“The Moon Wolf's blood.”

“And the First King's memory.”

Kael whispered,

“That makes him…”

“The first complete being.”

Lucian's body began glowing.

His eyes became silver.

Then gold.

Then black.

Then—

all three colors disappeared.

His eyes became clear.

Human.

Lucian looked at Kael.

“Daddy.”

Kael immediately went to him.

“I'm here.”

Lucian looked frightened.

“I can hear them.”

“Who?”

“All of them.”

He pointed into the darkness.

“The worlds.”

Kael's heart tightened.

“What are they saying?”

Lucian whispered:

“They're asking me to choose.”

Lyra knelt beside him.

“You don't have to choose alone.”

Lucian looked at her.

“But if I choose wrong…”

“You won't.”

“How do you know?”

Lyra touched his forehead.

“Because you're my son.”

Kael placed his hand over theirs.

“And mine.”

Lucian smiled.

The shadow suddenly attacked.

Kael raised the Key.

The impact shook the void.

The Key cracked.

Kael stared at it.

“No…”

The shadow smiled.

“You cannot fight yourself.”

Kael looked at the broken Key.

“Maybe not.”

He dropped it.

Lyra stared.

“Kael?”

He looked toward his shadow.

“I've been fighting you with weapons.”

The shadow stepped closer.

“And now?”

“Now I'll fight you with what you don't understand.”

The shadow laughed.

“And what is that?”

Kael reached for Lyra's hand.

“Choice.”

Lyra took his hand.

Lucian took hers.

The three stood together.

The shadow stopped.

Its smile disappeared.

“No.”

Kael looked at it.

“You said you were born from my memories.”

“Yes.”

“Then you remember everything I lost.”

The shadow hesitated.

Kael continued.

“You remember every time Lyra died.”

“Yes.”

“You remember every time I failed.”

“Yes.”

“You remember every world we lost.”

“Yes.”

Kael smiled.

“But you don't remember why we kept choosing each other.”

The shadow's eyes widened.

“What?”

Kael stepped forward.

“Because love isn't a memory.”

Lyra stepped beside him.

“It is a choice.”

Lucian joined them.

“And choices belong to the future.”

The shadow began shaking.

“No.”

The First Thought suddenly appeared behind it.

“Enough.”

Everyone turned.

The First Thought looked at the shadow.

“You were never supposed to become conscious.”

The shadow turned toward him.

“You created me.”

“I created the possibility.”

“You created me.”

“Yes.”

“Then why are you afraid?”

The First Thought said nothing.

The shadow smiled.

“Because I am the part of you that you could never control.”

The First Thought raised his hand.

The shadow disappeared.

For a moment—

there was silence.

Then the First Thought looked at Kael.

“You have one chance.”

Kael frowned.

“For what?”

“To save them.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“From what?”

The First Thought looked toward Lucian.

“From him.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“You mean the shadow.”

“No.”

The First Thought shook his head.

“I mean Lucian.”

Lyra immediately stepped in front of her son.

“You're not touching him.”

“I am not asking you to surrender him.”

“Then what?”

“Kill him.”

Silence.

Kael stared.

Lyra's face became pale.

“No.”

The First Thought continued.

“If Lucian survives, the shadow will become complete.”

Kael shook his head.

“There has to be another way.”

“There isn't.”

Lyra looked at Lucian.

The boy was trembling.

“Daddy…”

Kael turned toward him.

“Don't listen.”

Lucian's eyes filled with tears.

“Am I dangerous?”

Kael knelt before him.

“No.”

“But he said…”

“I don't care what he said.”

“Grandfather said…”

“I don't care what any of them said.”

Kael held his son's face.

“You're my son.”

Lucian began crying.

Kael pulled him into his arms.

“You are not a monster.”

Lyra joined them.

“You are not a weapon.”

Lucian whispered,

“Then what am I?”

Kael looked at Lyra.

She looked back at him.

Then Kael answered:

“You're our choice.”

The First Thought watched silently.

Then—

it smiled.

“Exactly.”

Kael looked up.

“What?”

“You finally understand.”

The First Thought raised his hand.

The darkness behind them split open.

A new world appeared.

A world where Kael had never met Lyra.

A world where Lucian had never been born.

A world without war.

Without prophecy.

Without the First World.

Without the Destroyer.

The First Thought pointed toward it.

“That is the final choice.”

Kael stared.

“What happens if we enter?”

“You live peacefully.”

“And if we refuse?”

“The universe collapses.”

Lyra looked at Kael.

Kael looked at Lucian.

Then—

Lucian smiled.

“I know what I choose.”

Kael's eyes widened.

“Lucian…”

The boy stepped forward.

“I choose our world.”

The First Thought's smile vanished.

“Then prove it.”

The new world began collapsing.

The darkness returned.

The shadow of Kael reappeared.

The three-eyed Destroyer rose behind it.

Nysera's silver eyes opened.

The First Thought lifted his hand.

And suddenly—

four ancient beings stood before the family.

Kael tightened his fists.

Lyra's golden eyes ignited.

Lucian stepped between them.

The final battle had begun.
