Chapter 102

The One Above the First

The universe was silent.

No stars.

No worlds.

No moon.

Nothing.

Only darkness.

And one enormous eye.

It opened slowly.

Kael stood beside Lyra.

Lucian remained between them.

Even the Destroyer had stopped moving.

For the first time, the ancient creature looked small.

Very small.

The voice came again.

“You have done well.”

Kael raised the Key of Eternity.

“Show yourself.”

The eye moved.

“I already have.”

“You're hiding.”

A quiet laugh echoed through the darkness.

“No, First King.”

The voice became colder.

“You are simply too small to see me.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“Then make yourself smaller.”

Lyra almost smiled.

Even in the darkness, she recognized that stubbornness.

The eye narrowed.

“You still possess that arrogance.”

Kael frowned.

“You know me.”

“I know every version of you.”

“Then you know I won't surrender.”

“Yes.”

The voice paused.

“That is why I created you.”

Kael froze.

Lyra looked at him.

“What did it say?”

Kael stared into the eye.

“You created me?”

“Yes.”

“You created the First Father.”

“Yes.”

“You created the First World.”

“Yes.”

“Then what are you?”

The darkness shifted.

Something enormous moved beyond the eye.

“I am the First Thought.”

Silence.

The Destroyer lowered its head.

“The one before the First Father.”

Lyra looked at it.

“You created him.”

“I imagined him.”

“And he created everything else.”

“Yes.”

Kael's grip tightened.

“Why?”

“Because thought wanted form.”

“And when it gained form?”

“It became afraid.”

The voice echoed.

“So I created another thought.”

Kael understood.

“The Destroyer.”

“Yes.”

“And when that failed…”

“You were created.”

Kael stared.

“Why me?”

“Because I needed something that could remember.”

The Key of Eternity began glowing.

“You made me to control creation.”

“No.”

The voice became softer.

“I made you to observe it.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

“Then why did I become the First King?”

“Because you chose to.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“You're lying.”

The eye turned toward her.

“I have never needed to lie.”

“Then why were we separated?”

“Because I wanted to know what love would do when it was denied.”

Lyra's expression hardened.

“You experimented on us.”

“Yes.”

Kael stepped forward.

“You destroyed countless lives just to watch us?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

The answer came immediately.

“Curiosity.”

Kael's face became cold.

“That ends now.”

The First Thought laughed.

“You still believe you can end me.”

“No.”

Kael raised the Key.

“I believe we can choose what happens next.”

The eye stared at him.

Then—

it blinked.

Reality shattered.

Kael suddenly found himself standing alone.

“Lyra?”

Nothing.

“Lucian?”

Nothing.

He looked around.

He was standing inside a palace.

A palace he knew.

The First King's throne room.

But it wasn't abandoned.

It was alive.

Thousands of people filled the hall.

Wolves stood along the walls.

Soldiers knelt.

And at the end of the chamber—

Kael sat on the golden throne.

Lyra sat beside him.

Lucian stood before them.

Everyone was smiling.

Kael stared.

“This isn't real.”

A voice answered behind him.

“Isn't it?”

Kael turned.

The First Thought stood there.

Not as a giant.

Not as an eye.

As a man.

He looked ordinary.

Almost human.

Old.

Calm.

And strangely familiar.

Kael stared at him.

“You.”

The First Thought smiled.

“You expected a monster.”

“I expected something worse.”

“I can be.”

Kael looked around.

“Where are Lyra and Lucian?”

“They are here.”

“Where?”

The First Thought pointed toward the throne.

Kael looked.

His own body was sitting there.

Lyra was beside him.

Lucian stood before them.

But they weren't moving.

They were frozen.

“They're memories.”

“Yes.”

“Why show me this?”

“To offer you a choice.”

Kael frowned.

“What choice?”

“You can have this.”

The First Thought gestured toward the kingdom.

“No more wars.”

“No more deaths.”

“No more First World.”

“No more Destroyer.”

“No more timelines.”

“No more suffering.”

Kael stared.

“And the price?”

The First Thought smiled.

“You forget.”

Kael's expression changed.

“Everything?”

“Everything that hurts.”

“Lyra?”

“You forget her.”

“Lucian?”

“You forget him.”

Kael shook his head.

“Then it's not a choice.”

“It is.”

“No.”

Kael stepped forward.

“It's surrender.”

The First Thought's smile faded.

“You would choose suffering.”

“I would choose them.”

“You would choose uncertainty.”

“Yes.”

“You would choose death.”

“If it means living with them.”

The First Thought stared at him.

Then laughed.

“You really are the First King's greatest failure.”

Kael smiled.

“Good.”

The palace began disappearing.

The throne dissolved.

The wolves vanished.

The soldiers vanished.

Lyra disappeared.

Lucian disappeared.

Kael remained alone.

The First Thought stepped closer.

“You chose correctly.”

Kael frowned.

“What?”

The First Thought raised one hand.

Reality returned.

Kael opened his eyes.

He was back in the darkness.

Lyra was beside him.

Lucian was holding her hand.

The Destroyer was still there.

But something had changed.

The First Thought was standing before them.

In human form.

Kael stared.

“You let me return.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I wanted to see whether you would choose them.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“And now?”

The First Thought looked at her.

“Now I know.”

“What?”

“That love is stronger than memory.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

“Then you're going to leave us alone.”

“No.”

Lyra's expression hardened.

“Why not?”

“Because my experiment is not finished.”

Kael raised the Key.

“It ends here.”

The First Thought smiled.

“No.”

He pointed toward the Destroyer.

“It ends with him.”

Everyone turned.

The Destroyer slowly lifted its head.

The First Thought spoke.

“You were created from my fear.”

The Destroyer trembled.

“You were shaped by the First Father's fear.”

Its three eyes burned.

“And now…”

The First Thought looked at Lyra.

“…you will be shaped by hers.”

Lyra froze.

“What?”

The First Thought vanished.

The darkness exploded.

The Destroyer screamed.

Its body began changing.

Its three eyes collapsed into one.

Its enormous wings folded inward.

Black energy wrapped around it.

The creature became smaller.

Smaller.

Smaller.

Until finally—

a human figure stood before them.

A woman.

Long black hair.

Silver eyes.

And a familiar face.

Lyra stared at her.

Kael stepped in front of his family.

“Who is she?”

The woman opened her eyes.

She looked directly at Lyra.

Then smiled.

“Your sister.”

Lyra froze.

“I don't have a sister.”

The woman laughed.

“You don't remember.”

Kael looked at Lyra.

Her face had gone pale.

The woman took a step closer.

“You were the first.”

“I was the only one.”

“No.”

The woman's silver eyes began glowing.

“I was created after you.”

Lyra shook her head.

“That's impossible.”

“Is it?”

The woman touched her chest.

“You were made from the First Thought's desire to love.”

“And I…”

She smiled.

“…was made from its desire to be loved.”

Lyra's breathing stopped.

Kael tightened his grip on the Key.

“What is your name?”

The woman looked at him.

Then at Lyra.

“My name…”

Her smile widened.

“…is Nysera.”

Lucian suddenly screamed.

“Mama!”

Lyra turned.

Black markings were appearing across Lucian's chest.

Nysera smiled.

“He remembers me.”

Kael grabbed Lucian.

“What did you do?”

“Nothing.”

Nysera's eyes remained fixed on the boy.

“He remembers what happened before he was born.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“What happened?”

Nysera looked at her.

“You died.”

Lyra froze.

“Before Lucian was born…”

Nysera nodded.

“You sacrificed yourself to create him.”

Kael's heart sank.

“That isn't what we remember.”

“Because the First Father changed the memory.”

Lyra stared at Nysera.

“Why?”

Nysera's smile disappeared.

“Because the truth was too dangerous.”

“What truth?”

Nysera looked toward Lucian.

“The child was not created from your love alone.”

Kael's blood ran cold.

“Then what was he created from?”

Nysera answered:

“Your love…”

She looked at Kael.

“…and my blood.”

Silence.

Lucian's eyes opened.

Silver.

Gold.

Black.

All at once.

And behind him—

a fourth shadow appeared.

Nysera looked at it.

“The final piece has awakened.”

Kael raised the Key.

“What final piece?”

Nysera smiled.

“The part of creation that even the First Thought cannot control.”

The shadow behind Lucian opened its eyes.

And this time—

they were human.

They looked exactly like Kael's.
