The guardian’s laughter dissolves into the night, but the menace lingers. Its presence is crushing—a wall of darkness stretching outward like an endless shadow. The creature remains still, towering, watching us with a gaze so piercing it feels as though it could read every hidden corner of our souls.

My breath quickens, but I force myself to remain composed. What can I possibly do against something so ancient, so powerful? My hands tremble, just slightly—but courage, that stubborn ember I always manage to ignite in the blackest moments, flares to life within me.

If I must die here, I will die fighting.

“Eve, stay behind me.”

Shadow’s voice is low, steady. I don’t know if he says it out of fear that I’ll panic—or if he truly believes he can shield me from what’s coming. But I don’t plan to stay behind.

Not now.

Not when everything we’ve been through has led us here, to the edge of the final battle.

Our eyes meet. There’s something in his gaze I’ve never seen before.

A quiet despair.

Perhaps deep down, he knows this is the final test—and that not every ending is written in light.

“I won’t let you fight alone, Shadow.”

My voice is a whisper, but my resolve is stronger than any fear. I step closer to him, every muscle in my body tight with tension.

“This is what we’ve been searching for, isn’t it? The moment it all ends.”

Shadow says nothing, but his expression softens.

I know he’s grateful—not just for my bravery, but because this fight is no longer his alone.

It’s ours.

The guardian steps forward, and the earth vibrates beneath its feet. Its power crashes over me like a wave, dragging me down, burying me under the weight of something I can barely comprehend. How do you kill something born before memory, shaped from darkness itself? But I know we have no choice.

This sacrifice, this battle—it’s our only hope.

The creature opens its mouth, revealing a jagged line of blade-sharp teeth. Its eyes blaze crimson, casting eerie light into the encroaching dark. Even the forest seems to shrink away from it, the very air parting to make room for its wrath.

“You don’t know what you’re doing,” the guardian growls, its voice echoing across space and time.

Its tongue is rough, venomous.

“You think you can end me? You are nothing but insects. This drama—this theater—is nothing more than a final, flailing attempt to survive. But you will fail.”

The air thickens—taut with tension.

And for a moment, the world seems to hold its breath.

The next move will decide everything.

Then Shadow moves.

Like lightning, he lunges toward the guardian, his eyes ablaze with fury and purpose. The ground shakes with his charge. His body blurs—a streak of will and vengeance. The guardian reacts, massive claws slicing through the air as it withdraws with impossible speed, narrowly dodging Shadow’s first strike.

“You cannot win!”

The guardian’s roar splits the air like thunder.

“You will never defeat me! I am bound to this world, and this world is mine!”

But Shadow doesn’t stop.

He moves with blinding speed, and I can feel it now—the magic thickening in the air, wrapping the forest in a veil of power. The laws of nature bend here. Time distorts. We are no longer in the world we knew.

The guardian lashes out again and again, a blur of muscle and menace, its fiery eyes searching for a weakness. But Shadow is relentless—focused, precise. He isn’t just strong. He’s smart. Every step, every strike, every dodge is calculated, drawn from some inner map only he can see.

The battle spirals into a storm of fury—light and darkness crashing together in every blow. Each time Shadow lands a hit, the guardian staggers back, but never falters.

It is vast.

It is monstrous.

And for every strike it takes, its rage deepens, thickens like a storm cloud ready to explode.

Then, with a feral roar, the guardian hurls a brutal blow at Shadow.

The force is cataclysmic.

The ground quakes.

The air turns heavy, suffocating—shadows closing in like jaws. Shadow is thrown backward, his body battered, but he rises almost instantly.

“Eve!” he shouts, voice hoarse with pain and effort.

“Run! I told you not to stay behind!”

But it’s too late.

There’s nowhere left to run.

No more time for hesitation.

This is the moment.

All our fears. All our hopes.

Everything stands eye-to-eye with truth.

I step forward.

Fear claws at my chest, but I press on.

The dagger is hot in my grip—its power thrumming through my skin, urging me onward. I can’t help it—my love for Shadow pulls me, anchors me, pushes me forward through the storm.

“I’m not going,” I whisper—half to myself.

“I won’t leave you.”

Suddenly, the guardian halts.

It stands still—watching us in silence.

The air grows even heavier, as though the world itself braces for what’s coming.

Then, with a mocking snort, the creature begins to laugh again.

But this time, the sound is different.

Lower.

Knowing.

As if all we’ve endured so far was merely the opening act in a tragedy much greater than we imagined.

“So… you’ll fight to the bitter end, will you?”

Its voice is cold, precise—like a knife gliding across glass.

“But there is one truth you fail to grasp. Love is a luxury mortals cannot afford.

And you… you are mortal.”

And with that final sentence, the guardian prepares to strike again—

A blow that will test the very limits of what we can endure.

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
