The guardian advances, each step reverberating through the ground like a war drum. Its form, towering and cloaked in darkness, seems larger than before—as if the hatred it exudes is feeding it. The dagger in my hand burns, as though it knows it’s our only hope, though its weight feels almost unbearable.

Shadow throws me a quick glance, his eyes pleading for something I cannot name. But I cannot step back now—not even if he asks me to. I plant my feet firmly, my body trembling, but my mind sharp. I will not let this end in silence.

“Eve, listen…” Shadow begins, his voice low and frayed with exhaustion.

“There’s nothing left to hear, Shadow. I’m not leaving you.”

He clenches his jaw, a growl of frustration and helplessness slipping from between his teeth. Yet beneath it all, I see something else in his eyes—pride. He knows I’m stubborn. But my presence is a risk he can’t afford.

The guardian lets out a thunderous laugh, a sound that makes me feel small, as though my courage were a child’s toy before its infinite power.

“Ah, love… how sweet—and utterly useless.” Its voice crashes like a storm. “Do you think love will save you? Do you think that pathetic feeling belongs here?”

It lunges faster than I expect, and I barely have time to react. Shadow springs forward like lightning, placing himself between us. His strikes are sharp and swift, but they barely graze the creature. It’s as if the guardian absorbs his strength, feeding off his desperation.

The air fills with snarls and roars. Shadow and the guardian collide in a brutal clash like I’ve never seen. The ground shakes beneath them, and the shadows that coil around the guardian move like living things, wrapping around Shadow, trying to bind him down.

My heart pounds as I watch him fight, his body a blur of raw motion. He’s fast, strong—but not indestructible. Every hit he takes cuts deeper than any wound I could bear.

I can’t stand by.

I won’t be a spectator.

Gripping the dagger tighter, I run toward them. My legs move before my mind can protest. The guardian sees me coming, and a wicked grin curls across its face, as though my courage were the punchline to a joke.

“And what will you do, little girl?” it growls, voice dripping with mockery.

I don’t answer. I let instinct guide me, thrusting the dagger toward its side.

But before I can reach it, its enormous hand flashes toward me with terrifying speed, seizing my wrist in a grip that steals the air from my lungs.

“Eve!” Shadow cries, struggling against the guardian’s shadows pinning him to the ground.

The guardian lifts me as if I weigh nothing, pulling me toward its face. Its burning red eyes are endless pits of darkness, and for a moment, I feel myself drowning in them.

“Your courage is admirable… but wasted,” it hisses, its voice a poisonous whisper.

“And your death… will be the perfect lesson for him.”

I close my eyes, bracing for the end. But something inside me refuses to yield.

The dagger flares—bright, blinding. The heat intensifies, surging through me like fire. I open my eyes and see the guardian recoil, its sneer melting into something like surprise.

“What…?” it growls, abruptly releasing me.

I hit the ground hard, the breath knocked from me—but I don’t let go of the dagger. Its light intensifies, flooding the clearing. The guardian thrashes, shielding itself from the glow, and the shadows binding Shadow dissolve like smoke.

With a feral roar, Shadow breaks free and charges, his claws glinting under the dagger’s light. For the first time, the guardian falters.

“Eve—now!” Shadow shouts.

I don’t hesitate. I rise and rush toward them. The dagger feels alive in my grip, guiding my every step.

As Shadow strikes the guardian, I drive the blade deep into its chest.

A deafening scream tears through the night. Everything stops.

The guardian stumbles, its immense body beginning to crumble—ash drifting on the wind.

The light pulses one final time, then fades, and silence falls over the forest.

Shadow looks at me, his chest heaving. He’s bloodied, bruised—but still standing.

Me?

My legs give out.

I collapse to my knees.

“We… we did it,” I whisper, my voice barely a breath.

Shadow comes to me and kneels, placing his hands on my shoulders. His eyes—always burning with resolve—are soft now. Vulnerable.

“Eve… you don’t know how close you came to…”

His voice breaks. And for the first time, I see him without his mask of invincibility.

“But I didn’t,” I say, trying to smile. “I’m here. With you.”

He doesn’t reply. He only pulls me into his arms, his body trembling slightly. The warmth of his embrace wraps around me, and for a moment, all the pain, the fear, the hopelessness—vanish.

But deep down, we both know…

This wasn’t the final battle.

We’ve defeated the guardian—but the road to freedom still stretches before us, riddled with shadows.

And though we’re together now, the world will not let our love bloom without cost.

Fate has granted us a reprieve.

But the war… is far from over.

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   77. A Breath Before the Storm

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   76. Hearts Aflame

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   75. Howls of War

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   74. Beneath the Moon of Secrets

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
