Chapter 5: Leaving The Kids

"Why did you call me here ma?", Eleana asked

"Why are you so impatient?". Mrs Diamen said as she sat down and gestured for Eleana to.

"Let's see, your son nearly blinded me and he also sent my kids away without my permission. I had to literally run out of the house so he wouldn't catch me and by now I be as far away as possible from here but you have something to say and wouldn't talk so forgive me if me being impatient bothers you". Eleana spat all these out in a rush as she tried to calm herself down.

Mrs Diamen sat there in silence and calmly waited until Eleana was done with her ranting.

"Are you done?", she asked and Elean nodded.

"Good, I can't say serves you right for not leaving when I ask you to cause I know that the most painful thing a woman can experience is the hatred of her soul mate".

"I presume you had a fight before coming here and now you want to take the kids away from him right?". Mrs Diamen asked.

"Why? Trying to stand up for your abusive son?".

"No, but he is my son and these children...your children..they are my grandkids and I won't let them get dragged into this fight between you and my son".

"You want to take them from me?". Eleana asked in amusement.

"Again no, but I want you to think about it. You made a decision in haste to take them with you and leave....Have you thought of how they would feel?...How they are going to cope by stopping school at the middle of the term? Cause if you want to take them away, you would also need to stop their current schooling. Have you thought about all this??... Have you even thought of where you are taking them to? Huh? A hotel??".

Every word was like an arrow piercing Eleana's heart. _That is right, she hadn't thought about all these. O my god, in her haste to leave her husband she almost ruined her children's life_. Eleana thought as she felt the heartbreak of what might had happened had she really took them.

"If you can say with certainty that you have all these planned out and whatever your grievances is with my son it would not affect these children negatively then you are free to leave". Mrs Diamen said as she stared at Eleana and registered all the expressions on her face.

Seeing that her words were gaining effect Mrs Diamen pushed harder.

"Listen to me Eleana. I know we do not see eye to eye but these are my grandchildren and I want what is best for them. So I have a suggestion ".

Eleana looked at her and replied; "Does this suggestion have something to do with leaving them here?".

Knowing she would have already guessed it Mrs Mudia agreed with a nod. "Yes, I want you to leave them here, if it's just for the weekend so you can arrange your thoughts and plan this out in a way if won't affect them".

"You think I am stupid, you want me to leave them so your son would take them away I'm sorry but that would never... ".

"Happen!. That would never happen Eleana, he might be my son but I won't put the kids at risk because of that. If you leave them here you have my word that Dane won't take them. I promise ".

Shaking her head Eleana replied; "I don't believe you neither do I trust you. In fact why do you want to help me?.. Huh??.. Didn't you always hate me, you hated everything about me so why do you want to help me now?".

"Hate is a strong word Eleana, I don't like you , yes. I think you shouldn't be with my son, yes and do I care what happens to you, no I don't, but I do care what happens to my grandchildren and they are the ones I am helping not you".

Back at the house Dane woke up few minutes after Eleana left.

"Arggg!!!!! That damn woman!!!!!". He cursed as he felt his head splitting into two due to the effect of the fall. He touched his head and felt a sticky fluid on his hand. It turned out his head was covered with blood.

"I'm gonna kill this b*tch!! Eleana!!!!!!!!!!!! Eleana!!!". His scream shook the house and even startled the birds that were perching on the roof top.

When he didn't hear any sound he stood up and began searching the house to see if she is still around. When he didn't find her after searching for a while a thought came to his mind.

_Did she find out where the kids her?. With her intelligence it shouldn't be hard"_. Dane thought as picked up his phone to call his mother.

"No, if I call her and Eleana is there she would leave and take the kids with her. I mustn't let this happen ". He said and ran up with wobbly steps to pick up his car keys.

He barely walked a few steps down when he felt lightheaded and quickly sat on the steps to prevent himself from falling.

_"I can't drive like this". Dane thought and booked for a designated taxi with his phone.

The taxi was close by so it took few minutes before it got to the house and they left, headed for the Diamen's house.

Eleana was deep in thought as she wondered if she should really leave her kids here and trust Dane's mom.

"You don't have enough time Eleana, for all we know Dane might be on his way here already and if he meets you here I'm afraid I won't be able to do anything . So you have to make a choice, do you agree or not!!?.

With a deep breath Eleana replied; "I will accept your offer, but on one condition ".

"Which is?".

"Dane or anyone else must never take the kids away from here no matter what. If you can guarantee me this, then only will I agree ".

"No one will, you have my word!".
