Chapter 2

Author: Rituals
"Hey! Can you move your fake car out of the way? My mom's Panamera is a one-of-a-kind custom color in the world. Who are you to drive a look-alike?" the girl said.

I rolled down the window and looked at her coldly. "Is your father Aaron Meyer?"

The girl immediately puffed out her chest and answered proudly, "Of course! My name is Clarisse Meyer. I'm the Meyer family's one and only daughter! You're just a fraud trying to ride on our fame. Get lost now, or I'll have my dad seize your car!"

"The only daughter?" I let out a short laugh and pushed open the door, but two bodyguards stepped forward and blocked me.

They were men I had personally hired to protect Maeve. Now they stood against me, faces hard and hostile.

"Miss, this is private property of the Meyer residence. Unauthorized people are not allowed inside," one of them said coldly.

"Unauthorized people?" I glanced at him. "I am Aaron's lawful wife and Maeve's mother. You dare stop me?"

A calm voice came from behind me.

"Jasper, no need to be so fierce. This lady probably just likes my car too much and dreams of being my husband's ideal woman."

Jess Carter walked over and took Clarisse's hand, her eyes sweeping over my suit with faint disdain.

"Imitation will always be imitation. The position of Mrs. Meyer isn't something you can pretend to be just by wearing haute couture."

The guests attending the birthday party gathered around, pointing at me and whispering.

"She looks respectable enough. Why is she trying to pretend to be a Meyer?"

"She must be trying to latch onto Aaron. Look, the real Mrs. Meyer and the young miss are right here."

"I heard Aaron fathered a child with a nanny, and the girl kept claiming she was the Meyer family's heiress. The teacher even led the class to punish her. Looks like they're all the same kind."

"The nanny's daughter?" I turned to Clarisse. "At school, you were the ones who made Maeve cry and forced her to stand in the snow, weren't you?"

Clarisse shrank back under my gaze for a moment, then quickly became arrogant again.

"So what if we did? She's just an unwanted illegitimate child! Mom said Maeve's mother is a mistress and doesn't deserve my dad. And she doesn't deserve to be the Meyer family's heiress either!"

Jess stood there like a noble lady, her voice soft and gentle, yet every word dripping with superiority.

"Clarisse, don't waste time talking to people like this. Our family has always been kind-hearted. We only kept Maeve back then out of pity. A little pet raised in the house doesn't know manners. Teaching her a lesson is only right, so she won't embarrass us in public later."

I clenched my teeth and forced out each word with what little reason I had left.

"Where is Maeve? Bring her out to me. Now."

Jess covered her mouth and laughed lightly. "Why so anxious? Maeve is upstairs reflecting on her mistakes. And really, since you left the child at home, you should have taught her proper rules. Don't let her go around pretending to be a young lady and causing trouble."

As if deliberately trying to provoke me, she called upstairs.

"Dotty, bring Maeve down. Let her kneel and apologize to Clarisse in front of everyone!"

"Yes, madam!"

When I heard Dotty's familiar voice from upstairs, my heart jolted. I looked up in disbelief.

She stood at the top of the stairs.

She glanced down at me from above. The warmth she once had was gone, replaced by pure coldness and cruelty.

"Wretched girl, hurry up and come out!"

Dotty shouted behind her as if scolding an animal.

A small figure stepped forward.

It was Maeve.

Her hair was messy, her face pale, and a faint slap mark was still visible on her right cheek.

When she saw the crowd below, she immediately lowered her head like a frightened mouse, afraid to draw anyone's attention.

"Maeve!"

I couldn't stop myself from calling her. My voice trembled.

But Maeve only shuddered. She didn't look up at me. Instead, she buried her head even lower, as if trying to hide.

I turned to Dotty, unable to believe what I was seeing.

"Dotty, you raised me from childhood. I treated you like family. Before I left, I entrusted both my home and Maeve to you. Is this how you repay me?!"

"I don't understand what you're talking about, miss."

Dotty looked at me with contempt, as if I were a stray dog or an ant on the roadside.

"Aaron darling, don't believe her!" Jess pleaded."Frame you?" I gave a cold laugh. "Do you really think you're worth framing? When the Conrad family investigates something, there has never been a case we couldn't uncover."Aaron lifted his head and stared at Jess."You… you actually lied to me! You've been lying to me all along!""I didn't! I didn't lie to you!" Jess continued to argue. "I love you! Those things are all misunderstandings. Selene did this on purpose to drive a wedge between us! You have to believe me!"Watching them tear into each other like rabid dogs, I couldn't help but smile."Oh, right, Aaron—there's one more thing I forgot to tell you."His body stiffened as he slowly turned to look at me."Are you really sure Clarisse is your child?"With that, I picked Maeve up and walked away without looking back. The chaos and screaming behind me no longer had anything to do with me.Before long, the Meyer family collapsed completely.Aaron fell from grace. "Aaron! Are you even a man? You were the one who came after me first! And now that something's gone wrong, you want to dump all the blame on me? You coward!" Jess shrieked."Shut up, you bitch! This is all your fault!" Aaron roared and lunged forward, slapping Jess hard across the face.Jess refused to back down. She threw herself at him, and the two of them began grappling and screaming at each other."Stop putting on this pathetic show. It disgusts me." I waved my hand as if brushing away an annoying fly and spoke coldly.Aaron froze at once. He turned back to me and dropped to his knees, pleading desperately."Selene, I'm begging you—spare my family! I'll give you the company back. I'll give you all my assets. I just want to stay alive! Maeve still needs her father. For Maeve's sake, please forgive me this once!"At the mention of Maeve, a colder killing intent flashed through my eyes.He had the nerve to bring up Maeve? When he allowed Jess and Clarisse to bully her, did he

Aaron immediately chimed in as well."That's right! Selene, stop pretending! If you were really the eldest daughter of the Conrad family, would you have needed to live with me for eight years?"If you wanted to fake an identity, you should've picked a more believable one! The Conrad family is a top-tier elite family—how dare you try to impersonate them? You're courting death!"I looked at them coldly, watching their self-deception without bothering to argue. Instead, I lifted my gaze to the middle-aged man beside me and said calmly, "Three minutes. I want the Meyer family bankrupt.""Yes, Miss."The middle-aged man answered without hesitation. He immediately took out his phone and sent several messages in quick succession.Aaron froze for a moment, then burst out laughing."Selene, have you finally gone completely insane? Bankrupt my family in three minutes? Who do you think you are? The Conrad family's eldest daughter? You must still be dreaming!"Jess sneered as well. "Honey,

Why would such a top-tier dynasty suddenly appear here?Aaron froze for a split second, then ecstasy burst across his face.He ignored the pain in his body and forgot the disheveled Jess and Clarisse on the floor. Stumbling forward, he rushed toward the middle-aged man, plastering on an ingratiating smile."You must be a distinguished guest from the Conrad family! What an honor!"I never imagined the Conrad family would take an interest in my daughter's birthday party. Are you here to discuss a potential collaboration?"Please rest assured—if the Conrad family is willing to give us a chance, the Meyer family will go all out. We'd go through fire and water without hesitation!"As he spoke,

"Everyone, don't let her ruin your mood. The birthday party will continue. Eat, drink, and enjoy yourselves!" Aaron said.Seeing this, the guests quickly echoed him."Aaron is too polite. This is nothing worth fussing over.""Exactly. Just take this crazy woman away so she doesn't spoil the fun.""Clarisse's birthday party is what matters. Let's keep celebrating."Aaron nodded in satisfaction, then turned and barked an order at the bodyguards by the door."What are you standing there for? Seize this crazy woman and that little bastard! Lock them in the basement first. After I finish dealing with the birthday party, I'll send them where they belong!"The two bodyguards responded at once and strode toward Maeve and me.Maeve clung tightly to my leg in terror, her body trembling uncontrollably, her face deathly pale."Mommy, I'm scared… Let's run…"I crouched down, gently patting her back as I pulled her into my arms, then lifted my head to face the advancing bodyguards."Aaron

When Aaron saw that it was me, the fury on his face froze. His pupils shrank, and he stood there as if he had seen a ghost.I didn't give him a second to react. Pushing through the onlookers, I drove my foot straight into his groin.Aaron cried out in pain, clutching himself as his body curled in on itself."Selene! Are you out of your damn mind?!"After catching his breath, he lifted his head and roared.Seeing this, Jess ignored the cream and cake smeared all over her and rushed to his side."Aaron! Are you okay? That bitch actually dared to hit you! She's completely insane!"Clarisse sobbed and chimed in, "Daddy! Beat this bad woman! Make her pay for it! She hit Mommy and me; she even tried to ruin my birthday party!"Gritting his teeth through the pain, Aaron growled, "You crazy woman! You're nothing but a nanny our family hired! If it weren't for the fact that when Clarisse was little, you once saved her when she accidentally fell into the swimming pool, I would've kicked
