ALEXANDER

I can't believe I called Ethan incompetent a few weeks ago.

Over the last few days, I've sacked about ten new assistants for their evident stupidity. I just fired the last one several minutes ago. Strolling into a rooftop cafe I'd cleared up for more privacy with a private investigator, I punched my fist into my pocket.

Finding the young man sipping his coffee while staring at the view of the city, I slid Ethan's picture across the table. The last few days have been hell. He’s just my assistant—the most competent, most tolerable. That’s the excuse I keep repeating, over and over. But even I know I’m lying.

The private investigator drops his coffee and picks up Ethan's picture.

“His name is Ethan Wayne.” I clear my throat. “I want everything on him. Sightings, calls, traffic cams. Even if someone farted right next to him, I want to fucking know.”

“Who is he to—”

I slam my palm on the table as Rhydian claws at the surface. He wants blood. We want blood, we just don't kn

  • My Dear Master, We're Mates! (M×M)   CHAPTER 73: Still alive?

ETHAN My eyes flutter open. It's draining to realize I'm still alive. Why am I still stuck here, still breathing, still waiting patiently for a break, when there's clearly not going to be any. I'm in a different place. The light is bright, too bright for my eyes, and it's way colder than the last space. I can tell my body's weaker from how faint my heartbeat is, and with my wounds out in the open, it's clear I don't have much time left. Raising my head slightly, I figure there's someone here, someone else. Possibly Leo due to the guilt swirling in his orbs. Groaning slowly, I watch him like I'm studying a book. He's staring at me like I'm about to break, like he knows he's got to do something about this before I kiss the world goodbye, and it amazes me how Marinette stumbled upon such a weakling. “You okay?” He asks, and I let out a ridiculous chuckle. My throat hurts, mouth too, but I draw the laughter like it's going to be my last. Is he really asking me that right now? Is he b

ALEXANDERPatience is a virtue I don't have. But this past week has taught me about being calm even when the entire world is crashing upon me. My routine is back to normal, and this time, it's because someone's missing. I can barely focus on work without lashing out. My employees were afraid before, now they're even more terrified. No one. No one dares to whisper Ethan's name even in closed doors because I ordered them not to. Hudson pulls up at a high tech basement near the basement of the city. The private investigator, the one I met at the cafe, told me he found something—a particular footage of Ethan being dragged into a black van. Heading straight in, I find the private investigator lounging on a couch with a laptop on his thigh. “Mr. Grey.” He stands to acknowledge my presence. I'm not in the mood for that. “Go straight to the point.” I tell him, running my fingers through my hair. If I go one more day without seeing that guy, I might burn this city to the ground. “Where's

MARINETTE“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN BY THERE'S STILL NO LEAD?!” Jaz slams her palm on an officer's desk, voice rising with each sentence. It's 8 A.M, Gwen's in school, the bookstore’s been closed for days, and Jaz and I are at a station, desperate for some news about Ethan. Jaz doesn't care about her appearance anymore. She barely uses makeup, skips work, walks around the whole street like a dazed human being. She's lost her purpose, her spark, she's a completely different person. Her eyes blaze as the officer picks up some papers on the ground, his impatience evident. He arranges the papers, scowling. “What else do you expect us to do, Miss Jaz, Miss Matinette?” “To do your fucking job.” Jaz grits out, eyes bloodshot. “He's been missing for a week, and you keep telling us the same goddamned thing like programmed robots?” “Watch. Your. Tone.” “I will not watch my tone until you tell me what the hell is going on. Is he dead, alive, just fucking tell me something before I go insane

ETHAN I don't know how long I've been asleep, but I'm soaked in sweat and my own blood. The smell of iron twists my stomach violently, and the fact that I haven't tasted a single thing in days only intensifies my pain. “Get down on your knees, Ethan.” My back stiffens as a familiar voice settles in my ears. Alexander. Painfully, I tilt my head to the sides, eyes scanning the whole room for him. Then I hear Gwen's giggles like she's here. “Uncle Ethan, Uncle Ethan!” I tilt my head again, eyes frantically scanning through the dimly lit room. “Gwen.” I croak out. “Alexander?” Then it hits me. It's not real. It's only a hallucination. I'm slowly losing it. Snapping back to reality, I push their thoughts off my head and try to think of a way to escape. Glancing around, I notice a small crack in the wall that spills some light into the dark room. I squint my eyes for something that can help, then my gaze lands on a slight weakness in the chair’s base. Desperation claws at me. Testin

  • My Dear Master, We're Mates! (M×M)   CHAPTER 68: Comfort in a chaotic world

MARINETTEIt's been four days. Four days without the sound of Ethan's laughter ringing through my ears. Four days without him walking down the stairs like a clumsy kid. Four days without his nagging, help, voice. The silence is so deafening, it's starting to overwhelm me. Stepping into the kitchen, I find Jaz sitting around the kitchen island. Her face is pale, eyes red and puffy from crying the whole night. Seeing her this way makes my heart ache, and the fact that I can do nothing about it makes it hurt even more. She's staring at coffee—the same one Ethan makes for her—like she's about to break. Leaning towards her, I calmly place my hand on her shoulder. “You've been staring at the coffee for minutes, Jaz. Drink up.” I whisper, and she just stares at me like she doesn't understand what I'm saying. She then wipes a fresh tear from her eyes. “I can't eat when he's missing.” “What do you think Ethan would want you to do right now?” She shakes her head. “He'd want me to take care
