“Greta...Meredith...Meredith!” Meredith looked up from her computer and saw Brayden standing in front of her. She had no clue how long he had been standing there or why he wasn’t still sitting in his office chair next to her working but it seemed as though he had been trying to get her attention for some time.
“Huh?” Meredith responded. She had been in a zone knocking out her projects, refining the ones she didn’t have time to earlier at work. She had no idea what time it was or how long she had been at it. This was one reason why she didn’t like to work at home. If she stayed late at work she could always tell what time it was based on the cleaning crew. They always emptied her garbage around 7:05 p.m. almost to the minute each night. But at home she didn’t have a cleaning crew to alert her that it was getting late.
“I’ve been calling your name.” Brayden loo
**Author's Note: There was an error in this chapter when posting. The entire novel was posted rather than just the one chapter. I have corrected the error. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Meredith woke up the next morning early. Not as early as her husband who she knew little about but each day learned more and still she felt she couldn’t figure him out. She needed a moment to breathe. Ever since she had told him she would agree to his ridiculous death contract she had been with him nearly twenty-four seven. The only reprieve she received was when she had her moments in Dino’s room. She was still surrounded by everything Brayden even when in that room full of her things. She still knew what awaited her as soon as she stepped out. Even more so Brayden had full access to her wherever she went whenever he could easily enter her little bubble
Meredith didn’t know how to cope with all the stress. She had to let Brayden know where she was or rather where she wasn’t. She took a breath and sent Brayden a message that said she had gone home early and that she was feeling under the weather. He responded immediately asking what was wrong and when he offered to leave and check in on her she was even more nervous. Brayden kept insisting to come and check in on her and but she wasn't at home and she couldn’t let him find that out. She finally convinced him she would be fine and then he stopped messaging her. Meredith got in line to get something to eat and looked around the market area at everything that was available before deciding on going across to the opposite restaurant for pizza. She was just sitting down to enjoy her meal when she got a call from Brayden.
Meredith left Macy’s. She walked out onto State street and began walking down the street sipped her coffee. She had grabbed a vanilla latte on her way out of the store. She had just finished shopping for her outfit for the next day. She had spent $377.98 on it and sighed before handing her bank card to the clerk. Meredith had no bills to pay now that she was married to Brayden and lived in his house. Her rent, utilities, even her phone bill were no more. Brayden insisted on paying for her phone and having her migrate her number to his plan. She didn’t have to budget money for food really; she just paid for the lunches she and Taylor had during work but Estrella kept the condo well stocked and Meredith never was in need of anything. But even with all that in mind Meredith had hesitated when the clerk read the total amount. The clerk had looked at Meredit
[Authors Note: I apologize for the late chapter. I did not want to continue the story without you having the chapters leading up to this one. If you haven't read the updated chapters 58-61 I suggest you go back and read them before reading this chapter.] Meredith woke up with a jolt to her phone alarm. She blinked a few times looking at the time on her phone then looked around the room in complete confusion. There was no one in the bed with her, which was normal; Brayden usually woke up before her. But she was in what looked to be a woman’s bedroom, definitely not her billionaire husband’s bedroom. Meredith blinked a few more times and her yesterday began to flood to the front of her memory. She remembered how she snuck out and played hooky. She thought of herself as a bit of a rebel for that. She realized she was at her best friend, Taylor’s apartment in Wic
[Author Note: Unfortunately my computer has passed away and I was left searching for a suitable replacement. I now have a new computer and have updated my files and am able to continue releasing chapters. I have missed Meredith and Brayden and am excited to be able to continue following along with them and everything that comes with that. Thank you for your patience and for your support. :)] The elevator alerted Meredith that they had reached the Lobby floor as it binged and opened up. She still was resting her head on Brayden’s shoulder as people poured out of the elevator in a rush to head to lunch and some who were done for the week, which included her. Brayden let go of her hand and with his hand at the small of her back he guided her out of the elevator. They walked quickly throug
Meredith was just finishing up one of her projects when Dino walked in and rubbed against her leg. “Hey there, buddy,” Meredith smiled down at him then picked him up and placed him on her lap. “Come to check on me, have you?” Dino purred and offered a meow as he sat on Meredith’s lap looking up at her. “Well I was just finishing up. Let’s go get you a treat.” Meredith closed up the applications she was using and put her computer to sleep before setting Dino down on the floor and leading him out of the room to his own personal haven just down the hall. She opened her Standing Wardrobe and pulled out a small plastic jar of treats. Dino began purring furiously and rubbed and head butted Meredith’s leg in anticipation for his treats. Meredith took a few treats out and placed them on the floor in front of Dino.
As Meredith walked down the hall towards the sound of the timer she closed up her robe and cinched it tightly around her waist. She didn’t want it to slip open again and didn’t have time to put something else on for fear the dinner Estrella had worked hard on would be destroyed. As she was tying her robe closed, Meredith realized she was wearing the see-through lace robe that left nothing to the imagination. She sighed and made a mental note to make quick work of the dinner before promptly putting something that actually covered her up on.Meredith turned the corner into the kitchen and walked around the counter to the oven only to find Brayden bent over picking up a pot holder that must have fallen. Meredith was slightly taken aback at the sight of Brayden although she really hadn’t thought about where he had gone after leaving her in the office.
Meredith woke up on a cold hard floor. She blinked her eyes into focus as she sat up. She looked around and saw that she was in a large ballroom. The floor was in a black and white swirl pattern that seemed to meet just beneath where she was sitting. Meredith twisted and turned slowly in a sleepy haze trying to understand where she was.She was alone in a fairly empty room. The only thing she could see that was in the room was a small glass table a few feet away from where she sat. Slowly she lifted herself up off the floor and stood in the center of the room as she turned around twisting again as though from this angle she might be able to locate someone or some sort of clue. It was useless. All was the same as before.Meredith looked down and saw that she was wearing the red dress that Edward had sent her. She felt the cold floor against her bare feet as a ch
