Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Joanne posted an edited version of our conversation online that same day. It quickly caused an uproar.

The post went viral, and the comments section was filled with insults directed at me. They called us an evil couple, scum, and accomplices.

Less than a week later, I received a court summons.

On the day of the hearing, I arrived at the courthouse on time.

The moment I entered the courtroom, I saw Joanne and her mother Ruth Wagner sitting at the plaintiff's table.

As I walked past them, Joanne immediately lowered her head and hunched her shoulders. She looked frightened and helpless.

Ruth immediately pulled her protectively into her arms and glared at me.

"Don't be afraid, sweetheart. I'm here.

"With so many people here today, those evil monsters will finally get what they deserve!"

I stopped in front of them and nodded in agreement.

"That's right. Evildoers always get what they deserve."

Joanne's eyelashes fluttered slightly.

I said nothing more and walked straight to the defendant's table.

The gavel fell, and the trial officially began.

The plaintiff's attorney was the first to stand.

"First of all, Your Honor, I would like my client to describe what happened."

Joanne sniffled and began speaking through tears.

"Ma'am, no, Susan tricked me into going to her home by pretending to hire me. At first, she told me that she lived alone and that I would only be responsible for preparing her meals and doing the daily cleaning.

"After I had worked there for over a month, she said she was going on vacation and left me alone in the house. Before she left, she gave me a bottle of something to drink. After I drank it, I started feeling dizzy. Then her husband came back and dragged me into the bedroom."

As she spoke, tears rolled down her face.

"T-That man pinned me to the bed and assaulted me."

Joanne's words immediately caused an uproar in the courtroom.

The spectators began shouting indignantly.

"That's inhuman!"

"This was clearly planned by the couple!"

Ignoring the insults around me, I stood up and spoke coldly.

"My husband would never do something like that!"

I then turned to face Joanne.

"If that really happened, why didn't you call the police immediately?"

Joanne burst into tears.

"He said that if I told anyone, my family and I would suffer.

"I'm only a housekeeper. How could I possibly fight people like you? It wasn't until I discovered that I was pregnant that I finally found the courage to stand up for myself and demand justice–"

Hushed murmurs immediately spread through the courtroom, interspersed with a few curses from the gallery.

"What an animal!"

"His wife isn't any better. She's protecting a rapist!"

Ruth seized the opportunity to cry out. "My daughter's entire life has been ruined!"

As she wiped away her tears, she shot me a brief, triumphant glance.

I frowned and raised my voice.

"You're lying. My husband could never have raped you."

The plaintiff's attorney immediately objected.

"Your Honor, we have crucial evidence."

While everyone watched, he took out a USB drive and inserted it into his computer.

After setting everything up, an audio recording began playing through the courtroom speakers.

First came a desperate cry. "Ma'am! Help me!"

That was followed by a man's deep, mocking laugh.

"Are you actually calling Susan for help?

"Looks like you still haven't figured out what's going on. She left the house specifically to give the two of us some privacy.

"As long as you make me happy, you can have money, work, and whatever you want. We can talk about it. Just do as I say."

Then came Joanne's frantic crying and the sounds of struggling.

"No! Please, let me go! I promise I won't tell anyone! Please!"

The recording ended abruptly with Joanne's desperate sobbing.

Joanne had already covered her face and broken down in tears. Her entire body was trembling.

Ruth suddenly stood up and pointed at us as she screamed.

"Did you hear that? These two monsters planned everything together!

"They tricked my daughter into their home just so that man could force himself on her!"

The courtroom went into an uproar. Some people even had tears in their eyes.

"I feel so bad for this woman and her daughter. How could they have been unlucky enough to encounter such a disgusting couple?"

"Arrest the woman too! An accomplice is just as guilty!"

Amid the furious shouting, I clenched my fists.

"How can you prove that the voice belongs to my husband?"

The plaintiff's attorney turned to face me.

"The evidence is right here. According to technical voice comparison, there is a 95 percent probability that the voice belongs to Gary."

Even in the face of such evidence, I answered without hesitation, "That's impossible. That voice doesn't belong to my husband!"

I knew for certain that Joanne could never have met my husband.

Mabel turned her wheelchair to face the judge."Your Honor, Ms. Jenner is a wonderful person!"I didn't come here today to accuse her. I came here to clear her name!"Joanne froze for a moment before screaming"What nonsense are you talking about?"Are you afraid she'll retaliate against you? Don't be afraid of her! We're all here. She wouldn't dare do anything to you!"Mabel turned toward Joanne, fury in her eyes."Joanne, why are you still lying? Are you still trying to use me?"Joanne's expression changed.Mabel's eyes welled up with tears as she continued."When I worked for Ms. Jenner, she treated me very well. She paid me generously, and the work wasn't demanding."As for my car accident, it wasn't entirely an accident."Joanne and Keith were behind it!"No one had expected such a reversal. Shock was written across every face.Joanne hurriedly spoke."Mabel! Did the accident damage your brain? Do you even know what you're saying?"Mabel snorted."The day the neck

An hour later, the court reconvened. The judge wore a grave expression."After verification, the evidence submitted by the defendant regarding the relationship between Keith and Joanne has been confirmed as authentic."At the same time, DNA samples have been collected. The results will be available in three days."We will now continue with the proceedings."Sweat beaded on Jason's forehead. His voice had lost much of its confidence."Your Honor, the identity of the child's biological father has not yet been determined–"I cut him off."Enough. Even now, are you still going to struggle in vain?"I looked at Joanne."Your biggest mistake was assuming that my husband simply didn't come home."You never stopped to wonder why a successful businessman hadn't appeared in public for more than two years."Or why I had been handling all of his company's affairs."Joanne bit her lip and said nothing.I sneered and spoke slowly, one word at a time."That's because he's dead. The judge summoned Keith to testify.Thirty minutes later, Keith was escorted into the courtroom by a bailiff. He looked somewhat nervous. His eyes met Joanne's for a brief moment before they both quickly looked away.Joanne's lawyer immediately stood up to question him."Keith, do you know the defendant, Susan Jenner?"Keith nodded."Yes. I'm her personal driver. I've worked for her for nearly two years."The lawyer immediately asked a second question."Did you enter Susan's home alone three months ago?"Keith nodded without hesitation."Yes."The attorney asked in a leading tone"What did you go there for?"Keith took a deep breath and turned to look at me."Ms. Jenner asked me to go over that day."She said she was afraid of being home alone and wanted me to keep her company."The gallery immediately erupted."I knew it! So she's the one with the problem!""She brought her lover into the house and now she's blaming the housekeeper?"Joanne covered her face and beg

For a moment, the courtroom fell completely silent. A few seconds later, there were murmurs again."A death certificate?""He died three years ago? Then how could she possibly be carrying his child?""This is turning into a horror film. Oh my goodness!"The judge struck the gavel."Order! Order!"Everyone's eyes were fixed on the document in my hand.A bailiff took the document and presented it to the judge. After examining it carefully, the judge gave Joanne and Ruth a complicated look.Joanne's face had gone pale, and her body trembled slightly.Ruth shot to her feet."Impossible! It has to be fake! That wretch forged the death certificate!"I spoke calmly. "This death certificate was issued by Central General Hospital. It contains detailed medical records and the exact time of death."If you doubt its authenticity, it can be verified immediately."Luke added, "We have also petitioned the court to obtain Mr. Levine's official residency records. They are expected to be de

Jason projected the document onto the large screen. He then announced loudly, "This is the DNA test report comparing the fetus carried by the victim with Gary!"The report shows that the fetus and Gary have a biological parent-child relationship."The report struck the courtroom like a thunderclap.Unlike the video footage, which could still have been disputed, this DNA report appeared to be irrefutable evidence.Joanne slowly stood up with tears in her eyes."With all this evidence, what else do you have to say?"I pointed at the report. My tone was still firm."That report is forged. Joanne could never have obtained a DNA sample from my husband."Joanne glared at me in disbelief. Her eyes were red from crying."You! How much longer are you going to keep denying it?"I personally pulled the hair that was sent for testing from Gary's head while he was raping me!"Ruth immediately began wailing at the judge."Your Honor, the evidence is conclusive! Joanne's attorney, Jason Miller frowned deeply."Ms. Jenner, this evidence has been professionally authenticated. YYour baseless denial isn’t enough to disprove it!"Joanne wiped away her tears."T-That was a recording I secretly started while he had me pinned beneath him. I did everything I could to press the record button without him noticing. Every word and every cry was real!"How can you still lie through your teeth when things have come this far?"By the time she finished speaking, she was almost too overcome with sobs to continue. Her shoulders shook violently and made her look utterly pitiful.I sneered again."There are plenty of people in this world with similar voices. Why are you so certain it was my husband?"Jason looked at me and sneered."If the defendant feels that the evidence isn't convincing enough, then I have a second piece of evidence."He lowered his head and continued operating the computer.A moment later, the large screen at the front of the courtr
