Chapter 4

Jason projected the document onto the large screen.

He then announced loudly, "This is the DNA test report comparing the fetus carried by the victim with Gary!

"The report shows that the fetus and Gary have a biological parent-child relationship."

The report struck the courtroom like a thunderclap.

Unlike the video footage, which could still have been disputed, this DNA report appeared to be irrefutable evidence.

Joanne slowly stood up with tears in her eyes.

"With all this evidence, what else do you have to say?"

I pointed at the report. My tone was still firm.

"That report is forged. Joanne could never have obtained a DNA sample from my husband."

Joanne glared at me in disbelief. Her eyes were red from crying.

"You! How much longer are you going to keep denying it?

"I personally pulled the hair that was sent for testing from Gary's head while he was raping me!"

Ruth immediately began wailing at the judge.

"Your Honor, the evidence is conclusive! My daughter is carrying that monster's child!

"She was an innocent young woman! They ruined her life. Let them rot in prison!"

The courtroom instantly went into an uproar, and the spectators' fury reached its peak.

"Even the DNA matches! How can these monsters still have the nerve to deny it? They deserve the harshest possible punishment!"

"Is that woman mentally ill? The evidence is overwhelming, yet she still refuses to admit it. She's just as irredeemably vile as her husband!"

"I bet she's a sick pervert herself! Maybe she actually enjoys protecting a rapist!"

Just as the outrage in the courtroom reached its peak, I didn't surrender or admit guilt. Instead, I burst out laughing.

My laughter sounded especially jarring in the solemn courtroom.

Everyone stared at me in shock like I had gone insane.

Jason was the first to react.

"The defendant has not only shown absolutely no remorse, but has actually laughed in court! I ask Your Honor to deal with her severely!"

Ruth glared at me and pointed an accusing finger.

"You vile woman! You're no better than your husband! Both of you belong in hell!"

The spectators joined in by hurling the most vicious insults they could think of.

Ignoring every word they said, I slowly stood up at the judge's signal.

"I deny every single accusation they have made.

"My husband could never have assaulted Joanne, much less gotten her pregnant."

The courtroom went into an uproar as soon as I said that.

Joanne pointed at me with her protruding belly on full display. Her voice was choked with tears.

"The child I'm carrying is Gary's!

"How much longer are you going to keep denying it?"

Ruth pounded on her chest and wailed.

"These two monsters still refuse to admit their crimes even now! They've ruined my daughter! They should be sentenced to death!"

The moment she finished speaking, the spectators erupted into another wave of curses directed at my husband and me.

"The man is too scared to show his face, while the woman stands here making a scene! They're a perfect match! Just sentence them both to death!"

"That woman is an accomplice! She deliberately set everything up. The cruelty of her scheme is beyond imagination!"

"They're so messed up! They should be utterly disgraced, and their whole family should die out!"

Ignoring the insults, I fixed my gaze and stared directly at Joanne.

"You claim that Gary assaulted you, but that is impossible both logically and physically."

Joanne abruptly stood up with one hand pressed against her slightly rounded belly as if she were furious beyond words.

"My belly is already showing, and you still want to twist the truth?"

I didn't answer. Instead, I gave a look to my lawyer, who had just arrived in a hurry.

He nodded before immediately retrieving a document from his folder and handing it to me.

I turned to face the judge.

"Your Honor, I request permission to submit my first piece of evidence."

After the judge nodded, I raised the document for everyone to see.

The moment everyone saw what was written on it, they gasped.
