When I got home, still a little dazed from the evening, I froze at the sight of someone lounging on my couch.

“Hey, sis,” said a familiar voice, standing up and pulling me into a tight hug.

“Caleb!” I gasped, hugging him back. “When did you get back?”

“A few hours ago,” he said, grinning.

“Why didn’t you call?”

He shrugged with a wink. “Wanted to surprise you.”

“I missed you so much, bro,” I said, hugging him again. “How have you been? How’s work?”

He flopped back onto the couch, stretching out like he owned the place. “I’m good. Work’s stressful, as always. But I’m surviving. Needed a break and maybe some of your cooking.”

I laughed. “Of course. That’s the real reason you’re here.”

“Guilty,” he said, holding up his hands in mock surrender. Then his eyes narrowed slightly. “So… anything you wanna tell me?”

I blinked. “Tell you what?”

He raised an eyebrow. “You walked in smiling like you just stepped out of a rom-com. Spill it.”

I rolled my eyes, dropping my bag on the table. “It’s not

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 45

His hands stayed on my waist, thumbs moving in slow, agonizing circles like he was trying to memorize the feel of me.“Carmen…” he murmured, like my name was some kind of fragile secret. His voice was hoarse. Barely there.I pressed my forehead to his and exhaled shakily. “Don’t say anything. Just… don’t.”Because if he spoke, if I let myself think too hard about this about us I might break. He didn’t argue. His lips found mine again, but this time the kiss was deeper. Not rushed. Not reckless. Just intense. His fingers slid up under my sweatshirt, slow and deliberate, skimming the bare skin of my back until I shivered. He waited for a beat like he was asking permission without words before tugging it over my head. I let him. The fabric hit the floor, forgotten. Then my hands were in his hair, pulling him closer as I straddled his lap. I could feel every rise of his chest against mine, every tremor in his breath.“I missed you,” he whispered into my neck. “Even when I didn’t deserve t

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 44

Blake picked me up just after sunset. His car was spotless, like always. The engine purred low, and the music playing was barely audible some moody instrumental thing that felt like it didn’t want to intrude. Or maybe he didn’t know if we were supposed to talk, or just pretend none of this was strange. We didn’t say much on the drive.I stared out the window, Caleb’s note folded in my jacket pocket like a second heartbeat. Each word still echoing. Start with the incident… don’t wait… don’t trust too easily. The sky outside turned that dusty, in between blue the kind that never makes up its mind if it’s still day or night.“You’ve never been to the beach house, right?” Blake’s voice broke the silence, low and cautious.I shook my head. “You never invited me.”He glanced sideways, jaw clenched like he’d been expecting that. “Yeah,” he said softly. “I didn’t think I deserved to.”That shut us up again. The silence stretched until the tires crunched over gravel. The salt-sweet breeze roll

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 43

Carmen’s POV I woke up to silence. Not the comforting kind the kind that wraps around you like a warm blanket on a cold morning. No, this silence felt hollow. Empty. Like something… or someone… was missing. I sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. The apartment was still, the only sound the soft hum of the fridge from the kitchen. Caleb usually made coffee before I even rolled out of bed. It was his unspoken ritual his way of keeping me human in the morning. But today, no coffee. No footsteps. No sarcastic “Good morning, sweetheart.” I frowned. “Caleb?” No answer. I grabbed a sweatshirt from the chair and padded down the hallway, my socks whispering against the floor. His door was cracked open. The bed made too perfectly. Not the usual lazy way he tossed the blanket over and called it good. This looked… untouched. I pushed the door open all the way. “Caleb?” I tried again, quieter this time. Still nothing. My stomach pinched. Not panic. Not yet. But something tugged l

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 42

Caleb’s POVI’ve never believed in timing. Life doesn’t wait for the right moment. It hits you when you’re unarmed, distracted, and least prepared.Tonight felt like that.Carmen’s eyes before she walked away were full of questions. And me? I had answers I wasn’t ready to give. Because what if I was wrong? What if everything I’d pieced together was just a conspiracy built from shadows? But if I was right…I sat on the edge of my bed, fingers tapping against my leg. The desk in front of me was a mess I hadn’t let Carmen see old case files, business reports, company mergers. Years of buried secrets I’d only recently started unearthing. And all of them led back to Blake Lockwood’s father. Some of them… maybe even to Blake himself.I didn’t want to believe it. He didn’t seem like the type who could lie like that. But deception isn’t always loud. Sometimes it comes dressed in charm and comfort.I leaned forward, pressing my palms to my face. She was falling for him again. I saw it in the w

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 41

Jacques hadn’t spoken to me since that night. Not a text. Not a glance. Nothing. But I saw him. In the morning, when I stepped out for air. In the evening, when I came back from work. We passed each other like strangers who used to be something more even though we never really were. Not officially. Not physically. But God, it still hurt. There were too many almosts between us. Too many unsaid things hanging like ghosts between the walls. He was avoiding me on purpose. And I let him. That didn’t stop me from thinking about him. Not for a single second.Fab caught me staring out the window more than once.“You know, for a guy you never even kissed, he’s sure got a permanent lease in your brain.” Fab said as she passed me coffee.I didn’t argue. What was the point?Even Octavia who usually lived in her own chaotic orbit paused while reapplying her lip gloss and asked, “Still no word from him?I shook my head.“Well,” she sighed dramatically, “men are a plague.”That made me laugh. A litt

  • My Ex-CEO    Chapter 40

The morning sun felt like a spotlight I didn’t ask for. It spilled across my bed, too bright, too bold like the universe had no idea what kind of night I’d had. My phone was still face down on the nightstand. I didn’t want to check it. I already knew Jacques hadn’t texted. And Blake probably had.Fab had gone out for coffee, maybe to give me space. Octavia was somewhere in the living room she’d stopped by last night with that dramatic flair of hers and decided not to go back. It was too late, and honestly? I was glad she stayed. I didn’t want to be alone with my thoughts.Caleb was... silent. Which in my world, meant one thing. He was watching.I sat up slowly. Everything ached. My chest. My head. And then I heard it muffled voices. Two of them. Curious, cautious, I padded toward the door, cracked it open just enough to hear.“You’re going to ruin her again,” Caleb said. Low. Angry. Controlled.“I’m not here to talk to you,” Blake snapped back. “I came to see her.”“Of course you did.
