Sophia’s POV

The next day, Emily and I arrived at my parents’ house, the tension between us increasing as we tried to make sense of Isabelle’s sudden interference. As we pulled up the driveway, Grandma Evelyn was already at the door, her face lighting up when she saw us.

“Sophia! Emily! It’s so good to see you girls,” she greeted warmly, her arms stretched wide for a hug.

“Hi, Grandma,” I said, embracing her tightly, grateful for the familiar comfort. Emily gave her a polite nod, smiling as Evelyn ushered us inside.

As we entered, my mom appeared from the hallway, her face turning gentle the moment she saw me. She wrapped her arms around me in a warm embrace. “I’m so glad you’re here,” she said quietly before turning to Emily, giving her a simple nod of acknowledgment. The air between them was cordial but distant, and I could tell Emily felt slightly uneasy.

“Dad and Chris aren’t here,” my mom explained as we settled in the living room. “They both had appointments today.”

Sophia’s POVChris’s eyes narrowed as he stepped closer, sensing that something was off. “What’s up? Why do you all look so serious?”Finally, I cleared my throat. “We were just... talking about some things that came up,” I said, glancing at Emily.Emily swallowed hard, then slowly handed Chris the envelope with the photos. His face grew serious as he opened it, flipping through the images of the two of them together. The confusion on his face deepened, and when he looked up, it was clear he didn’t understand why these seemingly innocuous pictures were causing so much trouble.“What are these?” he asked, his tone edged with uncertainty. “I don’t understand…”“They’re from last week, Chris,” Emily said quietly. “Isabelle gave them to your mom.” “I remember this,” Chris said slowly. “We were at that cool coffee shop near Sophia and Elijah’s place. But I don’t know why it’s such a big deal.” Then his eyes widened with mixed fear and anger. “But the real issue here is the fact that Isabe

Emily’s POVAs I spooned the warm chicken soup into my bowl, the rich, savory aroma filled the kitchen. Chris had been determined to make me feel better, which I truly appreciated. “This is really good,” I said after tasting it. Admittedly, the soup was greatly comforting. Chris settled on the stool across from me, looking concerned. “Emily,” he began, his voice tentative, “why did you suddenly come to my house without telling me? Is everything okay?”I chuckled softly, finding his nervousness both endearing and a bit amusing. “I just wanted to see if I could grab some of your famous chicken soup,” I joked. Chris grinned for a while, but then turned serious again. His eyes darted to the window and back to me. “You seemed pretty tense back there. I’m sorry Isabelle had to pop up like that again and cause problems.”I took another sip of the soup, savoring its warmth. Slowly I chose my words and explained, “The photos Isabelle gave to your mother were a bit of a shock, so Sophia and

Antoine’s POVI crouched behind the bushes outside the Bakers' house, my breath coming in shallow bursts as I peered through the windows. The quiet suburban street seemed too calm. My heart pounded against my ribs, not from the chill in the air but from the threats Isabelle had leveled at me. I scanned the area, half-expecting to see her lurking in the shadows, or one of her henchmen making their rounds. But the street remained eerily empty. The call from Isabelle a few days ago replayed in my head. Her voice had been dripping with malice and smugness as she flaunted her freedom. “The police can’t find me even if I’m standing right in front of them,” she’d said. “They’re too busy chasing their own tails.”I had tried to play it cool, but then she said some things that really got me. “Emily’s getting pretty cozy with Chris, don’t you think? If you’re not careful, you might just find yourself out of luck. You better do something soon, or she’ll be gone, and you’ll never get another cha

Antoine’s POVI tried to twist around, to plead my case, but I caught sight of Emily. She stared down at me, her eyes filled with confusion and something else—disgust, maybe. Bewilderment. This wasn’t how I wanted her to see me. I wasn’t the enemy here. I was trying to protect her.“Antoine?” Chris’s voice said furiously. “What the hell are you trying to do?!” His fists clenched at his sides, and his jaw was tight with anger.“I was trying to warn you all!” I protested again, squirming under the weight of the man still holding me down. “There was someone outside! I saw them raise a gun—”“There was no gunshot,” Chris interrupted coldly. He took another step closer, his face hard with disbelief. “You’re just causing trouble again, just like Isabelle. The two of you belong with each other. Stop bothering Emily, please.”“Enough!” The man who had me pinned finally spoke, his tone calm but firm. “I’m the bodyguard Mr. Sinclair sent. You’re not getting anywhere.”“Elijah.” The name slipped

Sophia’s POVI fumbled with my keys as I finally unlocked the door. My feet ached from the long day at the Bakers, and my head still buzzed with questions. I couldn’t shake the image of the hooded figure from earlier.Who was that person lurking around the house? It couldn’t have been Antoine. From what I remembered, it was really a woman. Is it Isabelle? Or maybe it could be Julia too. The thought made me shudder. I shook my head, trying to brush the eerie feeling away. There was no point obsessing over it now.All I wanted was to see Roxy, hold her, and forget about everything for a while. I dropped my bag by the door and headed straight for her nursery, eager to see my baby girl.As I walked down the hallway, a faint sound made me freeze in my tracks. I heard it again — definitely a giggle! “Oh, wow,” I whispered, rushing to the room to see if it was really her making that sound. I stepped into the nursery, and my breath caught in my throat. There, standing by the crib, was Elija

Elijah’s POVI stood on the green, the crisp autumn air brushing against my skin, golf club in hand. The course was nearly empty—off-peak season had its perks, especially at a place as exclusive as this. It gave me the privacy I needed, away from prying eyes. I tapped my club against the ground, scanning the area again. My guest was late, though I wasn’t too worried. He always had a way of showing up when you least expected him.Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of movement in the distance. There he was, walking toward me with that familiar confident stride—Joe, all the way from France. He hadn’t changed much since the last time I’d seen him. Still sharp, still as calculating as ever.As he approached, I met him halfway, and we exchanged a firm handshake. “Joe,” I said, a smile tugging at my lips. “Good to see you here in the U.S. And I'm glad to know you're not too busy these days.”Joe chuckled, his grip strong. “How can I say no to you, Elijah? Elijah’s POVI sat at the far end of the long table inside the conference room with its glass walls and polished surfaces, drumming my fingers impatiently on the armrest of the leather chair. My lawyer, Marcus Hendrix, sat to my right, calm as ever, flipping through his notes, as if this was just another routine meeting. But for me, nothing about this was routine.I didn’t want to be here. Not for some pathetic attempt at a settlement. I wanted Antoine Laurent behind bars, paying for what he’d done. Every punch, every sneer, every ounce of arrogance he had thrown my way—all of it. The entitled bastard thought he could beat me up and walk away without consequence.Marcus had insisted we say yes to their request for a meeting, though. "Let’s see what they have to say and offer," he had said earlier, cool and pragmatic as always. He knew I didn’t want to settle, but he’d convinced me that hearing them out wouldn’t hurt.I glanced at the clock, every tick making my blood simmer hotter. I

Sophia’s POVIt was late afternoon and I was nursing baby Roxy peacefully in my arms when my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and closing. I knew that Kayla had come to pick up Reese from school. I expected the usual flurry of excitement that came with Reese returning home. But today, when she walked in, her little face was anything but bright. Kayla came in for a while, and I thanked her at once. “No problem, Sophia. But I’m really sorry I have to run. Got an important meeting.” “Oh, no worries,” I replied. “Thanks so much.”After Kayla left, Reese shuffled in, her backpack hanging low, and plopped down on the couch without responding. Her usual sparkle was missing, replaced by an unsettling silence. Normally, she would be all over Roxy, checking in on her and chatting about her day. Today, she barely glanced at her sister.“Hi, sweetie,” I called out, trying to sound cheerful. “How was school? Did something happen?”She shrugged, her eyes fixed on

Sophia’s POVThe restaurant, Bella Sera, stood glowing in soft, elegant lights as we approached. It was bustling with guests, laughter and conversations blending together to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. I could hardly believe a year had passed since its grand opening, during which my husband Elijah had reconciled with his stepmom.Tonight was Bella Sera’s first anniversary celebration, and for once, I felt a sense of calm and happiness surrounding us. I looked down, giving Reese’s hand a little squeeze as we stepped inside, with Roxy and Jared walking alongside us, their eyes wide with curiosity. As we entered, Morgana herself appeared, beaming as she saw us. She looked elegant, her face bright with pride, and there was something so genuine in her warmth that I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Behind her was her husband, Lennon Delmare, standing tall and grinning broadly.“Sophia, Elijah! And my little ones!” Morgana opened her arms, crouching down to embrace Reese, Roxy, and

Sophia’s POVOne year had passed. Just like that. One long, grueling year since they’d been captured in Mexico. Now, I sat in the trial court, my hand clasped tightly in Elijah’s as we waited for the final verdict.Anticipation hovered around us, every rustle and whispered breath amplifying the tension that had been simmering for so long.I glanced across the room at Henry and Julia, seated a few rows away, flanked by officers on either side. Henry’s once-sharp features were worn, his face gaunt, his hair graying and thinning. He looked hollowed out, as though the years of hiding, the trials in France and now here in the U.S., had sucked the life from him. His hands were bound, but I could still see the twitch of his fingers, the anger boiling beneath his carefully composed exterior.Beside him, Julia looked equally changed. She’d aged in ways that seemed impossible for just a year’s passing—her skin pale, her eyes shadowed and glassy, as if she’d been surviving on sleepless nights a

It’s not going to change anything. But it’ll end everything.”Julia’s eyes darted to the side, searching for a way out. I could see the desperation rising in her, a trapped animal’s instinct kicking in. She looked to Henry, but he kept his gaze locked on me, his expression bitter.“You think you’ve won?” he spat, his voice laced with defiance. “You’re too late, Elijah. Everything’s already in place. You can’t stop us.”“We’ll see about that,” I said, taking a step forward. “You’re done running.”Behind them, Julian and Joe’s operatives moved in, sealing off any possible escape. Henry and Julia were completely surrounded, their backs against the wall. I could see the realization dawning in their eyes—that this was it. The end of the line.“Give it up,” Joe called out, his voice firm. “This is over. You’re not

Elijah’s POVThe bookstore in Guadalajara was hushed, with the quiet murmur of a few customers flipping through books or browsing the shelves. I sat in the far corner, half-hidden by a display of mystery novels, watching as the team casually took up positions around the room. Each one looked like they belonged there—disguised as staff, customers, a student reading by the window. I had to hand it to them; they blended in flawlessly. But under the calm, there was tension, and my heart thudded with the thrill and nerves that always came before a high-stakes operation. Today, we were either going to end this chase, or Henry and Julia would slip through our fingers once again. It made me stop and think all of a sudden. How did I come to be tangled up in such dangerous situations? A long time ago, I wouldn’t have dreamed of being a part of something like this. I would have chosen not to be in the middle of the action but simply waiting for reports and updates. But I’ve changed already… And

I could almost hear his voice speaking the words as I read.Hi, Sabrina… We’re okay. Emily and I are safe, but for now, we can’t return to the States. There’s still too much risk, too many eyes watching. You and Elijah… I know I don’t have to ask, but please take care of Jared. He’s safer with you than he could ever be with us. Tell him, when he’s old enough, that his mother and Uncle Chris never stopped loving him and that we’ll be back for him when the time is right. Until then, he’s yours. We’ll keep fighting to get back. Trust that. And trust we’re always with you in spirit.Love, ChrisI clutched the note to my chest, my heart swelling with a bittersweet joy. They were alive. Somewhere out there, in the shadows they were forced to navigate, Chris and Emily were holding on, fighting to survive. And even if they couldn’t be here physi

Sophia’s POVI gently laid Roxy down, her tiny face peaceful as she drifted off into a deep sleep. Her soft breathing filled the quiet room, and I brushed a finger along her cheek, feeling a pang in my heart. My thoughts drifted immediately to Elijah—he was probably in Mexico by now, fully absorbed in their mission to track down Henry and Julia. It’s been two weeks since we found out that information from Lila. And just yesterday, Elijah had flown to Mexico to join Joe’s and Julian’s teams. The thought filled me with an equal mix of pride and worry. He’d been so determined, so resolved to see this through, but knowing he was out there in danger made me feel helpless.I closed my eyes, sending up a silent prayer. Please let him be safe. Keep my husband safe and make this operation successful. Henry and Julia have to be brought to justice. A soft giggle pulled me back, and I looked over to see Jared, his chubby fingers reaching for the toy blocks I’d set up on the play mat. I joined h

Elijah’s POV“This is good news, Sophia,” I said, turning to my wife who was sitting up in bed next to me. Outside our bedroom window, the full moon shone brightly.“If Henry’s arm is in a cast and he’s limping, that means they’re weakened. They can’t move easily, and if they’re in Mexico, it’s only a matter of time before they’re found.”Sophia nodded, but her eyes were filled with caution. “So, you think they’re lying low because they’re injured?”“Exactly. They’ll need time to recover. Connor already contacted the local police here and also down there. They’re keeping an eye out, and I just got off the phone with Julian—he’s got people on the ground in Mexico, ready to track them as soon as they get a solid lead.”She placed a reassuring hand on my arm, but I could feel her worry. “So they’re closing in?”“Yes,” I replied, nodding. “But…” My voice trailed off, the frustration clawing at me.Sophia’s eyes met mine, a silent understanding passing between us. She’d just returned from Mexico, and she… she swore she saw Julia there.”I felt my breath catch in my throat. “Mexico?” I repeated, trying to process the shock, the disbelief that followed it. Elijah sat forward, his brows knitted in fierce concentration.“Did Lila say where exactly she saw her?” he asked, his voice low, intense. I could see the fire sparking back in his eyes, the urgency building.Kayla shook her head. “She didn’t give me the details. She was in a hurry, and I had to get back to Asha, so we couldn’t talk more. But she was adamant it was Jul
