Leah’s POV
“Please, Leah. I need you to understand.”
Adrian’s voice was behind me, low and careful, the same voice he always used whenever he knew he was about to hurt me.
I stood beside the window of our bedroom with my back turned to him, staring at the dark forest beyond the pack house. Moonlight spilled across the trees, but I could barely see any of it because my eyes were already burning with tears.
“Penelope only has a few months left to live,” he continued. “Her condition is getting worse, and her last wish is to marry me and become my Luna.”
My fingers tightened around the curtain.
There it was, again, Penelope. $:: name had become a wound in my marriage, one that never had enough time to heal before Adrian opened it again.
I slowly turned around.
Penelope stood beside my husband.
She looked pale, almost fragile, with one hand pressed against her chest and the other holding Adrian’s arm. Her eyes were red, and her breathing sounded weak.
But I knew her. I knew how she always appeared whenever Adrian and I were supposed to have time together.
She attended his Alpha meetings because she claimed she understood the pack’s political matters better than anyone.
She called him late at night because she said her health frightened her and somehow, every time I complained, I became the cruel wife who could not understand a dying woman.
I had spent months telling myself there was nothing between them.
I had told myself that Adrian was simply being kind to his childhood friend.
Because Adrian was my husband.
My Alpha, my mate.
Penelope suddenly coughed.
Adrian immediately moved toward her.
That small movement broke something inside me, his hand went to her back as he helped her sit down.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
She nodded weakly. “I’m fine.”
“You should be in the hospital,” I said quietly.
Both of them looked at me.
Penelope lowered her eyes. “I just had to come here.”
“To ask me to give you my husband?” My voice shook, but I did not care anymore.
Adrian’s expression hardened. “Leah.”
I laughed softly. It was strange how calm I suddenly felt.
For months, I had cried. I had begged. I had fought. I had asked Adrian to choose me even though I was supposed to be the woman he had already chosen before the entire Moon Crest Pack and everything time, he told me I was being unreasonable.
Every time, I apologized.
Tonight, I had nothing left to apologize for.
I looked at Penelope. “You should go back to the hospital.”
She swallowed. “Leah, I know this is painful, but I don’t have much time left. Adrian is the only person I have left. My final wish is to become his Luna before I die.”
I stared at her.
Then I looked at Adrian. “And what exactly am I supposed to become?”
His jaw tightened. “You will always be my wife.”
“No.” The word left my mouth before I could stop it.
Adrian blinked. “What?”
“I asked you a question.” I walked toward the table where my handbag was sitting. “If Penelope becomes your Luna, what am I?”
Silence filled the room.
Even Penelope stopped pretending to cough.
Adrian finally spoke. “We can handle the formalities later.”
“The formalities?” I turned toward him. “Is my marriage is a formality to you?”
“That isn’t what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean?”
He looked frustrated.
For the first time, I saw how tired he was of me and strangely, I was tired of him too.
Something inside me finally broke.
I turned toward him. “Then where is the divorce paper?”
Adrian’s expression changed immediately. “What?”
“The divorce papers you have been asking me to sign.”
Adrian stared at me. “I remember.”
“Good.” I held his gaze. “Then where are they?”
He didn’t answer.
“I’m ready to sign them.”
The room went silent.
Even my wolf seemed to hold her breath.
“You actually want the divorce?”
A painful smile touched my lips. “Didn’t you?”
He opened his mouth but said nothing.
For months, he had wanted this, he had wanted me to release him.
Now that I was finally doing it, why did he look so shocked?
He took a slow breath. “I don’t have them with me.”
I stared at him. “What?”
“The papers. I left them in my office.”
For a moment, I couldn’t believe him. Of all the things he could have forgotten, he had forgotten the divorce papers.
The very papers he had used to threaten the end of our marriage. “Then go and get them.”
“It’s late.”
I nodded slowly. “Fine.”
I reached for my handbag.
But before I could take a step, Adrian spoke again. “Until I get the papers and finalize everything with the elders, you stay in the pack house.”
I stared at him.
He said it so naturally, as though he still had the right to decide where I went and what I did.
I picked up my handbag. “You don’t tell me what to do anymore.”
I walked out before he could see me completely fall apart.
The moment the door closed behind me, my legs became weak.
I leaned against the wall and covered my mouth with my hand.
I walked down the stairs with tears running freely down my face.
I drove past the familiar roads, past the pack boundary, and kept going until the lights of Moon Crest disappeared behind me.
By the time I stopped, I found myself outside a bar in a neighboring territory.
I put on a mask, so they wouldn’t recognize me.
I stared at the entrance for several seconds, I had never been the type to drink.
I sat at the counter.
“What can I get you?” the bartender asked.
“Something strong.”
He studied me for a moment. “Are you sure?”
I looked at him. “Very.”
He poured me a glass. I drank it.
The burn was immediate.
For a moment, it distracted me from the pain in my chest. “Another.”
He poured another.
I drank again.
Soon, the world around me began to blur.
By the time I stood, the room was spinning.
I grabbed the edge of the counter.
The bartender frowned. “You shouldn’t drive.”
“I won’t.”
“There are rooms upstairs.”
I nodded. “That will do.”
I didn’t remember much after that, I remembered walking up the stairs, I remembered opening a door and then I stopped.
Someone was already inside.
A man stood near the window with his back to me., he was tall, broad shoulders, dark hair.
His shirt was open, revealing part of his chest, and the faint scent of his wolf filled the room.
I froze, my wolf lifted her head, the stranger slowly turned, his eyes met mine.
They were golden. !8( the warm gold of an ordinary wolf.
They were the deep, glowing gold of an Alpha.
A powerful one.
He stared at me.
I stared back. “You’re in the wrong room,” he said.
I should have apologized, I should have walked away.
Instead, I closed the door behind me. “I don’t want to go back.”
His eyebrows pulled together, I don’t know but i staggered to meeet him..
I touched his chest,
“Will you let me forget everything tonight?”

Chapter Three : My Thoight Leah’s POVAfter cleaning myself up, I stood in front of the mirror for a while, staring at my reflection without saying a word.I still could not believe what I had done.I had spent the night with a stranger.Whatever happened last night had happened because I had been hurt, angry, and desperate to forget everything that was happening in my marriage, but that did not mean I wanted to carry the memory with me for the rest of my life.I took a deep breath, picked up my things, and left the room. The moment I stepped outside, the cool morning air touched my face, and I breathed in deeply.I needed air.I needed to clear my head before going back to my room and facing another day of thinking about Adrian and Penelope.I slowly walked downstairs, keeping my hand on the railing as I made my way down. The house was unusually quiet. Most of the servants were probably still busy with their morning duties, and I was grateful for the silence because the last thing I
